Professor Charles J. Ogletree Jr. of Harvard Law School will deliver a lecture in Albany on whether the United States government should formally apologize and pay reparations for supporting slavery. Professor Ogletree, a champion of the reparations movement, will speak April 17 at 7 p.m. at Albany Law School. For more information, contact the school at (518) 472-5859.

You should be proud of yourself.
A man deserves fair compense for an honest day's work. The slaves didn't get it. Had they, their descendents would have been much better off. The whites-only economy stole money and wealth--stole it--from the slaves; it's as simple as that. It's totally unjust that it not be returned.
Money can't really compensate for the massive injustice of slavery, nor am I under any illusions about the motives of some of the race-hustlers involved here, but reparations should have been granted decades ago.
I've studies some of Dr. West's rap lyrics, and tried to capture his cadence, as well as some of his street-smart realism, but fear my effort pales in comparison to his.
I'm happy to have found an audience in you, at least.
The high illegitimacy rates should reduce that to about a hundred people total.
Well, not really, since Kunta-Kinte was fictional or at the very least plagiarized.
Are you going after the Jews next, or are they included in your payback on whitey?
Big difference.
Name one "lingering effect" that is "obviously" related to slavery, and share with us if you would the evidence that makes it "obvious."
The whites-only economy stole money and wealth--stole it--from the slaves; it's as simple as that. It's totally unjust that it not be returned.
Question: Do you think the rough measure of justice (i.e., the size of reparations) ought to be the difference between what is (i.e., blacks' current situation in the U.S., with all of its "lingering effects") and what would have been if not for the original crime?
Two hunnred years ago
Our blood did flow
Held as slaves
We never got paids
Now we're free
Our chains had to flee
Pay us a fee
Aspecially to me
Cause I need some cash
To build up my stash
On my house I need a roofus
In my gap I need a toofus
I need some reparations
Cause my wife sued for separations
Hurry up and pay
Cause it's SHAKEDOWN DAY!!!!
You see, from the end of the civil war until 1913, industrialists thrived and business/technology blossomed. Let's give the black community the same 50 or so years of fair treatment in order to strengthen their community and families with the power of earnings.
Mr Ogletree and his ilk don't want that though. All they want are settlement fees to enrich only themselves.
Not collective guilt, national guilt. Big difference.
So youre going to take money from the descendents of former slaves? Or are they not members of this nation?
How, exactly, are you going to handle disbursements? Will all black citizens get a check, even post 1865 arrivals?
Will we be able to develop a blood test that will determine the level of "blackness" in the blood of people of mixed race to determine their share?
Will you also support suing the current nations like Sudan that still currently utilize slaves?
Will you also support suing nations like China, Japan, Belize, Mexico, Portugal, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Jordan, Chile, England, Burma, and dozens more where slavery existed for thousands of years before the establishment of this nation?
Native American tribes enslaved people for centuries? Do you support suing them?
Have you even begun to think through the racist underpinings, logical inconsistencies and logistical impossibility of your knee-jerk, liberal idiocy?
White people who are wealthier than they would have been had they not stolen the labor of black people.
Black people who are poorer than they would have been had they not had their labor stolen by white people.
Black people who are less educated than they would be had their path to education not been stolen from them by their self-styled "masters."
These are all blatantly obvious, and I'm almost embarrassed to have to recite them, but I guess we're dealing with a bit of an obstinate crowd.
In any event, it doesn't matter whether there are lingering effects (though there clearly are)--justice requires restitution for the original crime.
Return of the stolen wages, plus interest, would cover the vast majority of what's due.
