Email sent to congressman Simmons | March 23, 2002 | VRWC_minion

Mr Simmons,

This is to advise you about a push poll that was directed to me last night about 9pm in East Hampton. After establishing I was a likely voter, the oldest male and was a republican I was asked who I would vote for. After telling them the republican candidate most likely (because I don't know you because of redistricting) I was asked a series of questions which included (not exact wording) :

1. Simmons voted for 450 million in retro active tax benefits for Enron.

2. Simmons voted against school building.

3. Simmons voted against allowing us to sure HMO's and taking away benefits from elderly.

He then asked me would I still vote for Simmons. I told him his questions were based on flawed premises and that this was a push poll. I was surprised that he didn't tell me Simmons was an ax murderer but yes I will still vote for the ax murderer.

The contact person I was given for this poll is Amy Collier, 215-641-2200 ext 2247. I left her a message telling her the polling company was lower scum than Clinton.

I am angry about this call and am willing to offer whatever assistance I can to you in the upcoming election in East Hampton, please let me know what I can do to help.

Ray

No. Unfortunately 9/11 happened. Not unfortunately we're going to rebuild the military.

I think it's great that you actually believe you can change the minds of people around you. Good luck.

appoint conservative judges

Ahem. Bush nominates [former Clinton nominee] Cercone to District Court . Evidently, Bush believes if he nominates a Democrat to the bench Daschle will respond in kind by confirming conservatives. Care to make a wager on whether Daschle will play ball?

(I realize that this is a late response Sorry but I'm job hunting. It places a great demand on my time and energy.)

No I wouldn't wager. Just for the record, I don't expect 100% of Bush's judges to be conservative. Politics are involved when you deal with congress. I expect the majority to be conservative and the rest moderate. Likewise there might( I said might) be some acceptable moderate judges among Clinton's appointments again because of politics.

I understand your point. I truly do. But when you keep on saying 'it could be worse,' there comes a time when you will come to the worst thing, and therefore it couldn't be worse.

In my opinion there is nothing worse than choking my freedom of speech and freedom of association.

Thanks for taking my comments in the light-hearted spirit I intended. After I made the Post, I worried that it would seem like a mean-spirited (to use rat lingo)personal attack. For the record I am outraged at Bush's recent actions. However I get really PO by the pouting I see at freerepublic (again, I don't mean you personally.) Rather than taking positive action that will help our country. There seems to be this quitter attitude. I really think that if all these splinter conservative groups had actually cared enough to stay in the party and fight. We might have one or two more conservative senators. The past couple of elections we have lost senate seats by very narrow margins. Imagine how different this year would have been if the Repubs had started with 53 or 54 seats instead of 50.

Oh, come on. You don't really believe Bush (and the RINOs) want to do this, do you?

No not the Rinos, Of course not. I was showing the difference between Bush and the NE Liberals. I didn't think that I needed to type "/sarcasm". Bush has taken some troubling liberal stands lately. But Bush has also taken some very conservative stands. If we are going to slam him for the bad things. We should also give him credit for the good.

privatize Social Security - This is going to end up a teeny tiny percentage of the money they piss away. Probably not enough to buy a cup of coffee for a younger person, and we're going to have to give a gallon of blood to get it.

Of course it's going to start small. So what! Once it starts the libs won't be able to stop it. And the amount will grow as people see how much better it is (and those FDR democrats die off.) And we should give Bush some credit for pushing it.

cut the tax rates - The tax cuts are and were a joke.

And your point is? Of course the tax cuts are a joke. But short of a magic wand, do you honestly think that Bush could have done better? Also Bush is still trying to push for more tax cuts.

appoint conservative judges - Bush's next appointment is a clinton appointee that didn't get confirmed.

Do you have a specific complaint against the appointee? Look I am very suspicious of anyone that Clinton Appointed. But some appointments are compromises. This guy might have been one of clinton's compromises. That's why I ask what's you complaint against him.

rebuild our national defense - Unfortunately 9/11 will make this possible.

Well, I think that having a strong national defense is a good thing.

develop a missle defense - Probably the only constitutional thing on the list

Let me see, a strong national defense is bad, but missle defense is good???

slow the rate of gov't growth to 4% - You don't actually believe this has been done, do you?

Yes the baseline has been changed to 4%. That's a good thing. A good thing actually happened, I'm sorry, I hope that this news does not crush your spirits. /sarcasm. The problem is that changing the baseline, does not restrain Congress from supplemental spending. But one battle does not win the war.

enact school vouchers - This was gutted from the famous education bill.

Yes,Bush lost the battle.
