A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 3/21/02

President Bush and First Lady Laura are on their way to Latin America for a four-day trip with visits to Mexico, Peru and El Salvador. In a stop-over in El Paso, TX, Bush spoke to a crowd about increasing security at our nation's borders. He also visited a local customs inspection area. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I agree with everything you've said.....except for the "getting on with it" thingy.

I honestly believe he may think it's unconstitutional and he is going to let the SC tell John McCain he wrote, lobbyed for, and passed an unconstitutional bill.

Think of this: if Bush vetoes it, we would be hearing about this until we die -- and maybe beyond.

If the SC vetoes it as unconstitutional, that's the end of it!

We're ALL discouraged about it. Some of us just aren't ready to drink hemlock yet!

If I had been asked nicely to let the subject go because we're all tired of it (and we know Bush shouldn't sign the bill) I would have graciously moved on. However, immediately told by three or four Bush Babes to "take a hike" didn't exactly sit with me well. I've never like groups of people who jump on someone or bullies, regardless of the setting. (and I don't take crap, regardless of the setting)

"However, if you know anything about women, you should know that it isn't wise to pick a fight with one, let alone many, when they don't want one! I assume you may have learned from this experience."

LOL. I learned this long before this evening. :) You should ask my girlfriend, (her FR name was tmhcac, though I don't know if she's ever posted, so it may not exist now) about how hard headed I am. This is nothing! :-)

Come on. The president is entitled to change his mind if he explains why. He said that he agreed with the need for campaign reform but there were some things with the bill he did not like. Anyway, where were all the republicans in the senate. They voted for CFR. Be angry at them, not at the President. If he does not sign it he will be smeared all over the papers and the TV and why should he endure such grief when he knows the SC will find parts of it unconstitutional. You chill out and quit the whining. No need to tow the line but also no need to abandon ship. Such fickle friends the President doesn't need.

I have read this whole thread. Thanks, intense!

cactmh, do you understand the term "hijacking a thread?" Do you realize that is what you have done?

I have been on threads that started off talking about the stock market, and suddenly someone appears with a rant, and the thread becomes something ugly about O'Neill or Greenspan, with some conspiracy theory thrown in. I like people to stick to the topic of the thread, which, in case you haven't realized by now, is NOT CFR.

I do not think the people who write all those Bush-bashing vanities would appreciate us showing up and filling their threads with pictures, do you? It would be petty and really against the forum's rules. It would accomplish nothing but antagonizing a lot of people. You are doing the same thing by bringing your anger about CFR to this thread.

Now, I have explained nicely why you were wrong to do what you did, and I hope you will come back and visit when you have something positive to say.

Personally, I'm sick to death of hearing about CFR for the last three years. The media has their own agenda, and sees it as increasing their power (actually our educational system, and the resulting stupidity of the American public, gives them most of their power.) McCain is in favor of anything that gets his increasingly disfigured face on TV, and the Dems have used it as a red herring for so long it absolutely reeks.

Time to give it a long-overdue burial -- nothing's changed, free speech will be rescued by the SCOTUS, and the politicians will find new and better ways to stuff their pockets.

The world is teetering on the brink of Armageddon, and you need hip boots to wade through the self-righteous whining on Free Republic.

I pray the President returns safely from his trip.

With 80% approval ratings I think he could take the flack he'd get for NOT signing it. He can afford a little political capitol if he goes on t.v. and explains exactly why the bill is unconstitutional and why he cannot in all good conscience sign it. The country would be with him.

I don't care what you take exception to. I am sick of one issue wonders who scream the sky is falling when they don't get their way. Go to another thread and bash away with the other one issue wonders and fence sitters. I don't desert someone because I disagree with something they do. It is called loyality.

In some ways I agree with you that politics aren't that big in the scheme of things (different reasoning than you). On the other hand, politics matter a lot because what politicians do directly affect me and you whether it be economically, or more importantly militarily. Unfortunately most people don't understand this or worse yet, don't care. :(

rintense, and ALL you wonderful people who are here to enjoy rintense's hard work, THANK YOU for defending our President. Divide and conquer is the aim of the troublemakers. We have an incredibly strong president, and we won't be deterred in our faith in him.

And now, for a chance of pace, did anyone hear Rush talk about the vet who tended Bubba's dog and cat while he was in the White House? The vet said that the poor animals were NEVER allowed in the living quarters there, and that they were definitely kept just for photo ops. An example was when Clintoon got Buddy because he knew the Monica thing was about to hit the fan and he wanted to deflect opinion.

He said the dog and cat were unloved. Poor things! He also said that he was in the White House and knows what he's talking about. Are we surprised?

rintense, you are a martyr to put up with those insensitive, boorish, idiotic party crashers. And, no, dear one, they are NOT typical republicans. I doubt if they ever voted republican.

who does it affect?

It affects anyone who wants to be able to inform the electorate during the time when they are paying attention (the last 60 days before an election) about the candidates' stands and voting records on issues of importance to them.

We're not just talking NAACP chain dragging ads and Jane Fonda's $12 million dollars attacking Bush for being pro-life (and this lady is supposed to be born again? Hah!), we're also talking NRA and related groups.

I'm loyal to Dubya, but I don't like this provision in the bill and believe it is unconstitutional.

Your right, the only thing that really gets me pissed about CFR is that mcain will get credit and get his picture taken, have you noticed he's been hitting the talk show ciruit? Atleast his one issue will begone and killed by the SCOTUS if it is indeed unconstitutional, I'll leave the expert opinion up to them, unlike some armchair constittutional lawyers, either way he can go back to being a nothing again.

I personally hope that all that is really on the President's mind is the war on terrorism. This stupid CFR bill will not stand up in court, therefore isn't worth concerning ourselves about.
I am a little perplexed at the violent reaction, when our country has been attacked and we are at war, and our very safety is at issue.
Believe me, CFR is the last thing I am worried about. There are a few things more important now.
The Republican party will self destruct, and we will have some liberal like Hillary in charge of the war, won't that be lovely?
This non issue bill needs to be put into perspective in light of the real issues we face, like Terrorists!

I agree with you on the politicians stuffing their pockets some other way (politicians and money are like a magnet and metal)

I wish I could share your optimism regarding the SCOTUS, because giving more power to the NYT is not what this country needs.

I did not hijack this thread. I posted one comment in agreement with another FReeper that was not at all rude or threatening and I was basically told to go to Hell. I'm sorry I don't just roll over when someone gets nasty with me...

Indeed Kath, One issue after another, anything to bash the President. No one who really supported him is going to denounce him completely now over one issue!
I never expected to agree with every decision he made, I don't know all of the facts, and I don't pretend to. He is the one in the position, and I trust him to do what is best, and that is that!
