Depends on whether the dems in government, who have been complaining constantly that the first President Bush should have gone all the way to Baghdad will now change their mind and refuse to authorize the President to wage war on Hussein.

Vanity Bump..this is too important...While Freepers yak away on anything they want, anything they can, a once young man may be sitting in a dark cell somewhere paying for all our rights a thousand times over....no computer, no forums, no nothing, forgotten.

Please take this to heart and help.

It is your duty.

It will not be a "chain" email if you do.

There is not a single issue out there that is as important as this one.

Tell me one good man that you know who wouldn't stop what they were doing right now and go in and get Scott if asked?

Yet...?

Is there a website connected to the efforts to return Commander Scott Speicher? If so, what is the URL?

There needs to be an official site though...will look into..good idea!

Found this Open letter to our former CIC?

Subject: Fw: news release on Speicher
Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 08:20:50 -0800
Subject: CDR. SCOTT SPEICHER

MR. PRESIDENT, I WAS THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE OTHER FA-18 SQUADRON ABOARD USS SARATOGA FLYING COMBAT MISSIONS DURING DESERT STORM. YOUR ADMINISTRATION REFUSED THE US AIR FORCE REQUEST TO ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE THE STATUS OF, AND RESCUE IF POSSIBLE, CDR SCOTT SPEICHER, UNITED STATES NAVY IN 1994-1995.

EXPLAIN TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND PARTICULARLY TO US SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN WHY YOU FEEL THAT THEIR HEALTH AND WELFARE PARTICULARLY DURING AND AFTER A COMBAT SITUATION DOES NOT DESERVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF "RISK" IN RETURNING OUR FOLKS DEAD OR ALIVE TO THEIR FAMILIES?

AMERICANS WHO SERVED THEIR COUNTRY IN UNIFORM UNDERSTAND RISK AND THE COURAGE IT TAKES TO MAKE HARD DECISIONS. I AM INTERESTED, WITH ONLY A HANDFUL OF DAYS LEFT IN YOUR TERM, WHY YOU ARE ADVERTISING THIS "CLASSIFIED" NEWS NOW?

DENNIS M. GILLESPIE

CAPTAIN, USN (RET)

Tongue in cheek, my friend.

I will bump this thread as many times as it takes.

I want this petition up to the hundreds of thousands. With all the Freepers here, it should not be difficult.

Wow, he was my first CO and let me come into the blue area of the carrier. Damn, I cant remember what that area is called in sailor language. I have had a few.

He was from Melrose, MA. as was I and he took me on a tour of the entire ship and even talked about tactics during the Vietnam war. He reviewed the Maverick tank killer with me and went over the capabilities of the Harpoon against a ship.

I bring this up for two reasons... one is that I have to bump this up for the cause.

Two, I was extremely impressed that this Officer would talk to me for so long. I know he probably doesn't remember me but I can fondly recall "Dizzy" and his behavior on the deck. A great man. He was also the gentleman that explained the strategy during the Vietnam war and why the "Escaltion of force" doctrine was bogus. He told me that outside of the galley.

HE is a warrior without peer and I always wanted to say that. I couldn't think of much to say at the time because I was a lowly Airman Apprentice and he was the CO... what can you say to the CO? LOL!

My thanks to you Slam. I hope you can let Dizzy see this. This is me...

Daniel Halligan, Airman, Plane Captain USN. My call sign was "Kid" enscribed upon F/A-18C 302 during Desert Storm.

BTW, the Rampagers were the BEST DAMN SQUADRON there was during Desert Storm. We have the Battle E awards to prove it. :D

A bumper sticker or pin to raise awareness might be a good find. If you happen upon one please post the site. Thanks. I too will search about.

Good reading bump. I am a sucker for any good sea story. I will do my best to get your post to him. Know he would appreciate what you had to say...what CO wouldn't. When its all said and done...when your folks remember you there's nothing better. Nothing.

Keep 'em coming

At the second website posted above there is a place to order POW bracelets and on another page at the same site there is:

"If you're interested in this as a bumper sticker, let us know by email at lynnpowmia@prodigy.net IF enough people are interested, we will have them made up for sale."

Like I said, I will bump this thread every day.

The Plane Captain CO was Lt. Cuny during Desert Storm. He was a MArine Corps officer that picked the Navy after Naval Aviation training. What Marine wouldn't? They get the same training but most of the daring ones pick the USN so they can fly on the Carrier.

Marine Pilots are great, dont get me wrong but LT. Cuny wanted to go Navy. LOL!

We were one of the first squadrons to run afoul of the PC program. Lt. Cuny's call sign was Cuny-Lingus which I am sure you can figure out where the problem was.

He was a young officer but he tried to intill us with an 'esprit de corps. Classic Marine, he addressed us as all troops should be addressed... he said we were warriors. He was right.

BUMP and SIGN!!! Come on Freepers!
