Ted Maher -- former Special Forces; Neonatal Intensive Care nurse
American Green Beret veteran and accomplished neonatal nurse Ted Maher has now been held 537 days without trial in Monaco's prison on trumped-up and false charges -- charges of causing the deaths of billionaire banker Edmond Safra and Ted's fellow nurse, Vivian Torrente on December 3, 1999. In truth, Ted fought valiantly against two armed, masked intruders to defend Edmond and Vivian and save their lives. During the struggle, Ted suffered severe knife wounds that required one hundred staples to close.
Billionaire banker Edmond Safra was cooperating with the FBI, who was investigating the IMF/Russian loans. Needing a convenient scapegoat for the murder of Safra, Monaco police subjected Ted to three days of grueling torture designed to extort a false confession from him. (see description in "BASIC TIMELINE" in Thread 1 - http://206.112.97.70/forum/a3ad8b097272d.htm ).
Monaco continues to hold Ted incommunicado, preventing him from sending or receiving mail. In fact, they restrict his communication with his family to one telephone call a week. This call is only allowed to last a few minutes and is always monitored closely to prevent any discussion of the case. Ted is forced by his jailers to take a psychotropic medication and is regularly "interrogated" by the Monaco judge -- Patricia Richet. Reports have been received that Judge Richet is a violent person who has displayed unstable behavior in the past. She allegedly has a history of assaulting a fellow judge, putting him in the hospital for a week. She also tears up letters from Ted's children in front of Ted rather than let him read them.
Hundreds of family, friends, work associates, parents of patients, and Army veterans who served with Ted have vouched for him as being a loyal husband, loving father, and an exemplary professional of great skill and compassion. Ted has also been defended by then-chairman of the House International Relations Committee Ben Gilman and Ted's congresswoman Sue Kelly, who have written Prince Rainier III of Monaco on Ted's behalf. Monaco has no evidence of any crime by Ted; they have no witnesses and no credible case against him. Even worse, Monaco has planted false evidence and suppressed vast amounts of exculpatory evidence -- even passing a special Monaco law that enables them to hold Ted four years without trial.
The Geneva prosecutor has said that Safra was killed for his cooperation with the FBI regarding the laundering through Safra's Republic National Bank of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia.
Regardless of the reason "why," it is obvious that Ted Maher is a scapegoat for a murder by others. We are working to obtain his release and to correct the grave injustice being done to an American Green beret veteran and medical professional.
Ted Maher -- a giver of life, not a taker -- needs our help.

I found a conversation via web between the webmaster of a major Russian site (I still get their newsletter, a collection of a dozen of the week's articles on Russia) and an Israeli journalist.
The Israeli journalist remarked to the Russian webmaster that Safra's death bore the marks of a Russian job.
Always the fool to rush in where angels fear to email, I emailed the Israeli journalist about Safra's death.
He advised it was significant that Banco del Gottardo maintained a branch in the building where Safra lived and died.
Further, that Banco del Gottardo "did jobs too shady for Republic".
And, that Banco del Gottardo "channeled the kickbacks from Mebatex to Pavel Borodin."
A little research showed that, yes, Banco del Gottardo maintains its branch in La Belle Epoque at 17 Avenue d'Ostende.
And, yes, others have indicated it was through Banco del Gottardo that Yeltsin's bagman Pavel Borodin was paid off.
Oh, that corrupt Yeltsin. Thank heavens he was replaced by that reformer Pooty-Poot.
Uh oh, Dominick Dunne wrote that Putin has a villa on the Cote d'Azur next to Yeltsin's.
Pavel Borodin was arrested en route to Bush's innaugural January, 2001, jailed in New York, extradited to Switzerland on money-laundering charges, and bailed by Putin for three million.
Was Borodin trying to buy influence from Bush as though he were Clinton--or better, Gore?
Recall that it was Gore who wrote "Bullshit!" on the 1995 CIA report on Chernomyrdin corruption.
Gore and Chernomyrdin ran the commission which bore their name for mutual benefit.
Bush during a debate with Gore accused Chernomyrdin of laundering IMF loans to Russia.
Chernomyrdin chugged a bottle of vodka, grew very red in the face, and threatened to sue Bush.
Was the arrest of Pavel Borodin a message from Bush to Pooty-Poot, Yeltsin, Chernomyrdin et al?
It was the chief prosecutor of Geneva who said Safra was killed for cooperating with the FBI regarding the laundering of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia through Republic.
He was thus cited in the Times (UK) Russia Journal and another source on page capture in Mike Maher's file.
Lucy Komisar of Pacific News Service has since queried the prosecutor and says he now denies saying it, noting, it doesn't mean he didn't say it--it means only that he now denies saying it.
As for the transactions of Republic under Safra, they are unknowable since his death.
Anne Williamson of Contagion was certain Ted Maher was a scapegoat from the first.
The IMF laundering profited the Clintons, Rubin, Summers, the Harvard econ faculty, and a half dozen Russian reformers.
The FBI which interrogated Safra was the FBI that gave Hillary's Craig Livingstone 1,000 files on enemies.
A tip from the FBI that Safra was singing would have brought a quick response from She Who Must Be Obeyed to silence the canary.
In New York, where the Harpy Who Would Be Senator had designs, the Helpful Slatkins who provided Lily with interior decoration and scented candles, provided the Deniable Lone Nut.
Sir John Bond, head of Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation, would meet Safra to finalize the sale.
Lily had completed the change to Safra's will to her benefit.
She had finalized her citizenship to Monagasque that day.
She had sent away the security team--all of it.
She had disconnected the burglar alarm (see fire report).
Her paid agent Sonia pencilled in Vivian and Ted at the last minute for a shift they did not work.
Edmond--poof--is dead.
The next business day he is cremated and the Fed approves the sale of Republic to HSBC.
Lily runs off to hide under the Queen's skirts and lavishes her lady bountiful act on Charles and Brillo Porker Bowels.
Sir John Bond has a squeaky-clean acquisition.
The Clintons, Rubin, Summers, the Harvard econ faculty, a half dozen Russian reformers can face the events (electoral roulette) of 2000 with easy (lack of) consciences.
The one improvement on the Rose Law Firm Turbo-Shredder: the double-tap in the wee hours.
Monaco blocked Dr. Michael J. Baden from developing the spattering of the late Edmond Safra's blood on Vivian's panties, bra and barrette/nursing cap.
And the undidentified male DNA not belonging to Ted Maher under Safra's nails.
But Safra's cremated and Ted's convicted.
No need to send Craig Livingstone to the funeral home to stick Vince's Honda keys in his pocket.
No one's expecting any "miracles" from "Bush" or anyone else for that matter.
A simple recognition of a poetic principle at play in this case.

Borodin didn't make it to George W. Bush's innaugural, but was arrested en route.
After an administration which gave Russia the run of the State Department to plant bugs and steal dispatches off Madeliene Albright's very desk.
After an administration wherein the Vice President was cheek by jowl with Chernomyrdin, certified corrupt by the CIA.
After an administration whose Deputy Secretary of State for Russia (Strobe Talbott) foresaw the end of the nation-state.
We have Borodin paid by a bank with a branch in Safra's building, a bank the Israeli said did for Republic what it was too fastidious to do for itself.
What would such a bank do?
Borodin was too valuable to Putin to leave languishing.

The leadership of the new "Eurasian Party-Union of Patriots of Russia," which was registered by the Russian Justice Ministry on December 15th, has held an expanded meeting, Rossiiskaya Gazeta reports. According to the newspaper, representatives from more than 70 Russian regions "declared their allegiance to the ideology of Eurasianness." Pavel Borodin, head of the party's Oversight Council, said "Eurasianness" was "a rare case for our country, being founded not on confrontation, negation, or intolerance, but on the unification of people of different nationalities, different social circumstances, and different wealth and religious belief." State Duma Deputy Abdul-Vakhed Niyazov, who chairs the party's Political Council, described its political orientation as "center-left" party and said it would have to form alliances with like-minded groups in order to win representation in the Duma.

Monaco police questioned two men of Middle Eastern descent in the parking garage under Safra's penthouse--and Borodin's cash cow Banco del Gottardo--but released them.
Then there is the Harvard econ faculty, fingered by Anne Williamson as co-beneficiaries of the Russian laundering of IMF loans along with the Clintons, Rubin, Summers, and a half dozen Russian reformers.

The U.S. government says that two former employees of the now-defunct Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID) who allegedly engaged in insider trading while working on U.S. Agency for International Development-funded projects in Russia damaged U.S.-Russian relations and undermined Russia's transition to capitalism. The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking $102 million in damages from Harvard University for alleged conflict of interest violations committed by Harvard economics professor Andrei Shleifer and his former deputy, Jonathan Hay, between 1994 and 1997. According to the Associated Press, Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara Bloom wrote in a court filing that while Shleifer and Hay were supposed "to teach the establishment of the rule of law and fair and open markets" in Russia, their "disregard for ethics" taught "the exact opposite" lesson.
What a world: Borodin receives kickbacks in an illegal money laundering scheme yet has a powerful patron to bail him from Swiss jail for the substantial sum of three million--no doubt three million which came from U.S. taxpayers via IMF loans never repaid.
While an innocent American veteran remains in the most appalling conditions of sleep-deprivation, held incommunicado into a fourth year, as Washington dwells on birthday gaffes.

“Whoever it was has a long reach and is capable of organizing a daring, brutal and vindictive maneuver.” Henry Kissinger said in an interview in 1999.

Edmond's friend agreed with me that getting Kissinger to elaborate on that remark would illuminate matters.
He advised that Edmond Safra and Henry Kissinger "moved in the same social circle and held each other in mutual respect".
At that time, Christopher Hitchens was to do an online chat on Brittanica.com to mark the release of his new book indicting Kissinger.
When Brittanica.com pulled out at the last minute, Hitchens commented online that "the Safra banking empire owns Brittanica.com".
I had been one of many complaining to the editor of Brittanica.com that all of its coverage of the Safra death was simply the parroting of the official smear and scapegoating of Ted Maher.
Its editor responded with the linguistic equivalent of an armpit fart.
Of note is that Kissinger sits on the current board of American Express, which in the eighties was successfully sued by Safra's attorney.
Amex, according to the Burroughs Vendetta, had floated false claims that Safra had been involved with Iran-Contra (see Robert Parry for update).
Lily's attorney Stanley Arkin had been involved in that suit per reports.
Lily's attorney Brendan Sullivan had defended Oliver North in Iran-Contra.

It would appear that Kissinger, whatever his crimes per Hitchens, would know about having a "long reach", and being "cruel and vindictive".
Again, the stakes are very high in a game where the players leave nothing to chance.
