President Bush: Please Bring Ted Maher Home From Banana-Republic Monaco!

American Green Beret veteran and accomplished neonatal nurse Ted Maher has now been held 537 days without trial in Monaco's prison on trumped-up and false charges -- charges of causing the deaths of billionaire banker Edmond Safra and Ted's fellow nurse, Vivian Torrente on December 3, 1999. In truth, Ted fought valiantly against two armed, masked intruders to defend Edmond and Vivian and save their lives. During the struggle, Ted suffered severe knife wounds that required one hundred staples to close.

Billionaire banker Edmond Safra was cooperating with the FBI, who was investigating the IMF/Russian loans. Needing a convenient scapegoat for the murder of Safra, Monaco police subjected Ted to three days of grueling torture designed to extort a false confession from him. (see description in "BASIC TIMELINE" in Thread 1 - http://206.112.97.70/forum/a3ad8b097272d.htm ).

Monaco continues to hold Ted incommunicado, preventing him from sending or receiving mail. In fact, they restrict his communication with his family to one telephone call a week. This call is only allowed to last a few minutes and is always monitored closely to prevent any discussion of the case. Ted is forced by his jailers to take a psychotropic medication and is regularly "interrogated" by the Monaco judge -- Patricia Richet. Reports have been received that Judge Richet is a violent person who has displayed unstable behavior in the past. She allegedly has a history of assaulting a fellow judge, putting him in the hospital for a week. She also tears up letters from Ted's children in front of Ted rather than let him read them.

Hundreds of family, friends, work associates, parents of patients, and Army veterans who served with Ted have vouched for him as being a loyal husband, loving father, and an exemplary professional of great skill and compassion. Ted has also been defended by then-chairman of the House International Relations Committee Ben Gilman and Ted's congresswoman Sue Kelly, who have written Prince Rainier III of Monaco on Ted's behalf. Monaco has no evidence of any crime by Ted; they have no witnesses and no credible case against him. Even worse, Monaco has planted false evidence and suppressed vast amounts of exculpatory evidence -- even passing a special Monaco law that enables them to hold Ted four years without trial.

The Geneva prosecutor has said that Safra was killed for his cooperation with the FBI regarding the laundering through Safra's Republic National Bank of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia.

Regardless of the reason "why," it is obvious that Ted Maher is a scapegoat for a murder by others. We are working to obtain his release and to correct the grave injustice being done to an American Green beret veteran and medical professional.

Earliest days after Safra's death a euroforum bore an arcane allusion to "a few years and a big payoff";

It was yet another "theory" to explain the known facts;

A "silver or lead" (plata o plomo) offer common in the South American drug trade;

Trafficers put a gun to the head of the judge or police, and a pile of money on the desk;

Quite a choice, no?

Monaco documents point to "facial bruising, bruising of the toes, bruising to the occipital region"--

To Edmond? To Vivian? No, to Ted.

Ted was worked over, both during the police interrogation, and before.

His account of being knifed fits--how would he have got knife or knives past the metal detectors?

Why did police destroy his clothes for that night?

And why was he shown photos of his children and played tapes of their voices?

Surely the threat was clear: cooperate or your family dies.

Forced to comply by threat.

The inconvenient billionaire, the man who knew too much, and spoke too freely, had to go.

A scapegoat was needed, one with something to lose.

One was found, and pounded into the mold.

But he's just a man, and can't account for the anomalies.

The plotters have tried to cover all eventualities with a single figure.

But their plausible deniability cannot explain the security stripping by Lily;

Nor the contradictory testimony of her paid agent.

The clock is ticking and the suits total nine figures.

2 Torrente children sue slain billionaire

A $100 million lawsuit was filed by the children of Filipino-American nurse Vivian Torrente charging that it was the slain billionaire Edmond Safra who was actually responsible for their mother’s death during a 1999 fire in Safra’s penthouse in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The lawsuit was filed with the Manhattan State Supreme Court by Jason Torrente, 30, and his sister Genevieve, 23, of Bergenfield, N.J., who claimed that it was a “desperate and crazed” Safra who led to their mother’s death when “he restrained her and prevented her escape” from the fire.

“There is a very graphic evidence pointing to Mr. Safra’s culpability in Vivian Torrente’s death,” said the children’s lawyer, Kenneth McCallion.

Torrente’s autopsy, according to the suit, showed “there were ‘combat-like marks on (her) neck...and blood in her thyroid, indicating that Vivian Torrente struggled to escape the bathroom where she and Mr. Safra were located, and that Mr. Safra restrained her and prevented her escape.”

The suits says Torrente “also had bruises on her knees and Mr. Safra’s DNA under her fingernails.” Both died of asphyxiation. McCallion said the autopsy report was “inconclusive” as to whether she was asphyxiated by the smoke or by Safra putting her in a choke hold. The suit also says that the Torrente children did not know about the autopsy report until Maher’s trial — and accuses Safra’s widow, Lily, of conspiring with insurance companies to keep the details of their mother’s death a secret.

It also claims that Torrente’s husband, Irineo, convinced the children to sign off on a settlement agreement with Safra’s estate before they found out about the circumstances of her death.

That deal, according to published reports, was for $2 million, half of which the children were supposed to split. McCallion, however, said the children have received only “miniscule sums.” “What the father got, we don’t know at this point,” McCallion said.

The same deal was challenged by a Fort Lee law firm, which claims that it conducted months of negotiations with the Safra estate before Irineo Torrente fired the firm in November 2000 and reached a settlement on his own.

An Israeli journalist I contacted to get him to elaborate on his remark to the head of a Russian journal that "Safra's death had the Russian mark" advised that Banco del Gottardo is of interest in the matter. It is the bank publicly credited with channeling Mebatex-Kremlin kickbacks to Pavel Borodin, who was arrested in New York en route to the Bush Innaugural, extradited to Switzerland and bailed for three million by Putin. It is a bank, said the journalist, which maintains to this day, a branch in La Belle Epoque at 17 Avenue d'Ostende, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Indeed the suspicious death of the billionaire and his female nurse has taken an outre turn.

Vivian Torrente's son and daughter are suing Lily for wrongful death.

They claim Edmond killed Vivian.

Note that the autopsy for Edmond stated he was seated with fecal matter beneath and a tissue on his penis--

In other words, the advanced state of Parkinson's produced a sedentary, semiconscious state and loss of bowel and bladder control.

The most recent lawsuit, that of the Torrente children against Lily, alleges that this debilitated, pathetic figure was a murderer.

Now what was Vivian? Chopped liver?

Vivian was fifty, fit, healthy, active, a professional nurse, used to handling patients in general and this patient in particular.

The suit alleges Edmond killed Vivian to prevent her escaping the bathroom, that he was paranoid of her opening the door.

Yet, we have nothing in the purported calls by Edmond and Vivian to Sonia and Lily to indicate any panic or violence.

What is it to be? Reliance upon the credibility of the only two witnesses to alleged calls by the deceased, or doubt?

Nothing in the suit comes close to indicating how came Edmond's blood to spatter the bra, panties, and barrette/nursing cap of Vivian.

Nothing therein explains the unidentified male DNA under Edmond's nails not belonging to Ted Maher.

Locksmiths said the door was not locked.

No cell phone records have been introduced to fix any call for certain.

The "wet towels" did not materialize for nearly three years--those which Sonia forgot she advised Edmond and Vivian to place.

Here is the question: The air handling had just been renovated. It was now separate for Edmond and Lily.

Now, the smoke in Edmond's apartment did not threaten Lily.

But as the fire report explains, the first four floors had smoke removal equipment but the top did not.

The bathroom, 608, next to the bedroom, 606, had ducting concealed in the cornice--but what was it doing?

The bathroom was designed as a "safe room" but it had no air supply, or air purification, or breathing apparati.

Making it a death chamber.

The attic contained the new air handling equipment, and it was completely gutted after the fire.

As the fire report stated, there was nothing to be served by retaining it.

For the same reason Lily apparently cremated Edmond.

No need for any evidence when it can be created as needed.

The truly fascinating aspect of the renovation was the installation of a trap door from the attic to the nurses' room.

One might enter and exit the nurses' room unseen; then leave via another part of the penthouse, say, Lily's apartment.

One thing is certain and that is that entry via the adjacent Hotel Hermitage would readily bypass the street video cameras.

And the two men of Middle Eastern descent questioned by police in the underground parking garage were released.

Leaving one unlikely scenario after another:
