The coming GOP supermajority in the US Senate; how Bush will completely reshape the Supreme Court

Posted on 03/18/2002 3:54:43 PM PST by ken5050

Like many here on FR, I've spent the last week knashing my teeth over Daschle's tactics in the Senate...blocking Judge Pickering's confirmation, blocking drilling in Alaska, and now this inane effort to make the Homeland Security director testify in Congress. And I've been hoping, like many of you, that Sen Miller would cross the aisle to the GOP side. Well, consider this scenario.....

A "supermajority" of the GOP we've borne witness to in the past decade would spell the end of the Republic as we know it.

Oh, yes, the Democrats are the ones keeping this country together! < /sarcasm>

Yes, it's optomistic, but I'm looking for trends here....and of course, Bush is the Big Kahuna.....I like these trends better than Daschle's chance of being majority leader in 9 more months..

What is more apparent than ever is that we are now, and forever, in the era of the perpetual campaign..as soon as the votes are counted this Novemeber, we start thinking about 2004.....but it seems eveident to me that if the GOP retakes the Sdenate this fall, then the Dems are aonly looign forward to losing more seats two years hence..this could well be their high water mark.....and a lot of the senior Dem senators will not want to go back to the minority for the next four years, especially with all the presure upcoming from the many expected Supreme Court nominations....retire, make the big bucks as a lobbyist, take it easy....

I'm gonna climb out on my other limb here...Iraq will be over in less than a week....without any major military engagements....the regime is weak, it's rotten from within, held together by fear of Saddam....you take him out, his sons, and the top 25 inthe military and the secret police, and the government collapses......watch.....you heard it here first...

Which three seats in the senate do you see the Republicans picking up? I see this election being pretty much a wash or maybe a one seat gain for the Democrats, that being the NH seat which is going to end up with a bitterly-divided state GOP there after this mess between Smith and Sununu.

We have a real good chance to take out Johnson in SD and Carnahan in MO.

I really like your analysis of the potential... but I believe it's on the optimistic side. If only it could happen!

Forget California. It is irredemably in Dem hands due to the illegal vote. We might vote Davis out, especially if there are more power problems. But forget any GOP Senatorial wins in California. The two Assembly houses will stay Dem long after I am dead.

Thanks, ken. Optimism is just what I need some times, and you just gave a full ration.

You're right, to a large extent...but it's not going to be a cakewalk for Boxer...and they'll have to spend money there that they won't be able to spend elsewhere....

"Oh, yes, the Democrats are the ones keeping this country together!

Of course, the Democrats are doing their best to collapse our once Godly Republic. But when you look at the fruits of the politicians - their deeds in Congress and while in power, the Republicans have very little to be proud of. Let me see:

No investigation of Reno's corruption. No investigation or punishment of those behind the Los Alamos nuclear secrets being given away. An INCREASE in government power and vast expanse of the hopelessly bloated and evil (yes, EVIL) Department of Education. No punishment of FBI abuses - in fact, an continuance of FBI atrocities. A compromise with nary a whimper on fetal tissue experimentation.

I could go on, but why belabor the obvious? All this and more - from your friendly neighborhood GOP.

The democrats would take us straight to hell, no doubt. The Republican solution is still the same highway at a little less than the max speed limit.

One thing about McCain that everyone forgets. He's staunchly pro-life, which takes him out of the mainstream of Dem politics..That's why all those wild talks abiut McCain switching parties in 2004, and running against Bush, either for Pres, or as VP, don't mean much...also, the last few times I've seen him on TV..he hasn't looked well....it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't run in 2004.....
