Million Mommies To Get Their Belles Rung in Gun Debate

LOS ANGELES, CA - A healthy debate in the Right to Keep and Bear Arms "Gun Ownership vs. Gun Control: Which Makes Us Safer?" will feature the self-proclaimed "million" moms March vs. the Liberty Belles, a grassroots organization out of southern California. The debate is sponsored by Students for Individual Liberty and will be held at L.A. Harbor College in Wilmington, California on March 20, 2002.

Headlining the event is Liberty Belles Spokeswoman, Anna Zetchus Raetz and Million Mom March spokesman, Charles Blek. Both organizations represent women across the nation who hold diametrically opposing viewpoints on the issue of firearms ownership. Also participating in the debate are Randy Herrst of the Center for the Study of Crime and Jennifer Mendoza, a student in favor of gun control.

"You don't have to be a psychic to predict that this will be a lively and informative debate," declares Marian Hollenbeck, Director of Public Relations for Liberty Belles. "Liberty Belles is most grateful to Students For Individual Liberty for hosting this forum. It will give attendees the rare opportunity to see a representative for Million Mom March who actually agreed to engage in a formal debate with the Liberty Belles Spokeswoman, Anna Z. Raetz, an ardent defender of our Second Amendment rights. It is well past the time for students and the public to hear for themselves the arguments made for and against our right to keep and bear arms without the usual shielding of the gun control argument that the media usually practices."

L.A. Harbor College is located at 1111 Figueroa Place in Wilmington, California. The debate will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Seahawk Center. Admission is free, and all are invited to attend.

I concur. Whether or not we are a "Nation of Cowards" is still up for debate.

The MMM's cowardice is not.

Mary Leigh Blek and her husband Charles Blek are registered Republicans (like you really needed to know that) who live in Orange County, California. The Bleks' 21-year-old son, Matthew, was shot and killed in 1994 by a teen robber wielding a "Saturday Night Special'' junk gun.

Charles Blek is a "Mom"?????

The question should be: Is Charles Blek a cross-dresser?

I will confidently predict that MMM will pull out shortly before the day of the debate. They will come up with some lame charge about the format being unfair or the moderator being biased or whatever.

All things being equal, I would be inclined to agree with you. This being California, I would tend to suspect an ambush, replete with liberal hecklers disrupting the Liberty Belle's First Amendment right to free speech. Otherwise the Million Mommies would probably cut and run as you suggested.

"Guns kept in the home for self-protection are 43 times more likely to kill a family member, friend or acquaintance than to kill an intruder."

Kellerman, who authored this pap, doesn't even believe it anymore!

Remember: Gun control increases violent crime by shifting the balance of power to the criminal while simultaneously disarming the law abiding citizen, thereby making them helpless victims.

Anna, please have large signs available (like a real estate sign with big post) that say:

ATTENTION

THIS HOME DOES NOT

BELIEVE IN GUNS

Challenge any of them to put that sign in their front yards. Of course, they won't. The reason they won't is because the bad guys will know who doesn't have a gun. They will be less safe. Maybe they will get the point. (Have an 18 x 24 version of the sign there for the benefit of the audience. I think the gimmick will get attention.)

Mary Leigh Blek

Interesting that MMM would not have Mary and Anna discuss the many laws that the 'thugs' that killed Matthew broke before committing murder. What 'law' did they consider as binding upon them?

Just two questions that need to be asked of the Million Mommies.

Instead of proposing that gun owners names and addresses be recorded, those who don't believe in carrying guns are the ones that need to register. We should publish all of their names in the newspaper. WOuld they be willing to do that?

Who would you rather have living next door to you if you needed help? A million mommie or a Liberty belle.
