Conservative Rock Groups?
Posted on 03/17/2002 11:56:23 AM PST by Lebowski
I was wondering if anybody can name some conservative rockers. It seams most people in the Music Industry are Left-Leaning, especially the hard stuff. I think you could say the same for most entertainment personalities, including movie stars and directors. So if any of my fellow conservatives could point me in the way of some good conservative rock groups it would be appreciated.

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. Check out his stance on Missle defense. Also Steely Dan, Dobbie Brothers ,Ultimate Spinach. Oldies but goodies.

Those don't look like the lyrics of a song to me. Is it "rapped", or something?

Speak English or Die is a classic. Also don't forget Billy Milano's first M.O.D. album with equally funny tunes like A.I.D.S. , Import Society, and Get a Real Job. I didn't know that Kerry King is a conservative. Also, for all who have mentioned Creed, check out the lyrics to My Sacrifice. It sounds to me like the song is written to Jesus Himself.

It is the lyrics indeed. Not kidding here. Go to Morpheus and download it or buy Whale Music by Rheostatics. It is indeed a song.

My kids like POD, though, and the group is clean and they don't cuss and they have a positive message and so it's fine with me. I don't think the band is a good example for Christians.
What about P.O.D. ?- Click here
There's some pretty good information on P.O.D. here, from a Christian perspective.

I can tell you that Queensryche's EMPIRE tells another story. There is a family element to the band and some religious overtones but they tended to rip on the Bush administration in the late 80s and early 90s. I am a fan of theirs but barely since they have decided to release one pile of crap after another the last 3 releases. --------------------------------------
They also took potshots at the Reagan administration on Operation Mindcrime. I felt some of the criticism of Reagan and Bush was legitimate, if not all of it.

If you guys can think of some good conservative movies put them here too.In terms of some good conservative themes, the Bogie-Hepburn Sabrina is great. The underlying theme of the movie is that a profligate, comfort-seeking life does not ultimately lead to happiness.
But one of the best parts is when Bogie gives this soliloquy about the greatness of the capitalist system. He talks about how the wealthy "industrialists" always get ragged on for exploiting the poor, when, in fact, it's the industrialists who raise peoples' standards of living and often pay out of their own pockets for the needs of the poor. Great scene.

The Stones playing that "Salt of the Earth" tune at the same concert
that Hitlery got booed.
When Mick Jagger said something about "Don`t f*ck with New York".
"The Who" doing "Won`t get Fooled Again",at the same concert Hitlery got booed at.
That concert with Paul McCartney that Hitlery got booed at.
Fine pieces of good conservative music.

"A.I.D.S." was a hilarious song, I agree. There was also this late 90's hardcore band in the same vein as SOD/MOD called Pitboss 2000. They wrote some funny songs such as "Billy C." (about our former adulterer-in-chief) and "Mullet In Progress" (pretty self-explanatory).
King King has taken some rightist stances in past and recent interviews. I remember reading one interview with him back in 1996 in a guitar magazine and he said that he wanted to vote Republican, but in the end decided that the Democratic and the Republican parties were merely carbon copies of each other (that's something I wouldn't entirely disagree with either). Rumor has it that his actual views are really, *really* far to the right (i.e., white power), but I'll believe that when I see some valid evidence, and so far I haven't.

Didn't Joey Ramone die last year? I thought I read that some where.

Sorry man, Glen Frey of the Eagles (along with cowriter Don Henley) are not conservatives. They're big liberal supporters. They've done fund raisers for Jerry Brown. Don Felder was the closest thing to a conservative in the band and they fired him.
I like the lyrics of "Get Over It" also, even saw Henley introduce the song during their Hell Freezes Over tour. I think it's more his tune then Freys. Can't explain how someone who puts those thoughts to paper can do benefit concerts for the likes of Marty Meehan.

You're right. During the 2000 presidential election , Frey traveled (or met ) with Al Gore and supported his campaign here in Michigan.

For all of its levity and wacky Briticisms, the music of Jethro Tull has inevitably dwelled on the dark side of human nature. It is a product of much soul searching on Andersen's part as well as of his reluctance to embrace the easy answers and hedonism of the status quo. Even in the early Seventies, when sex, drugs and rock and roll were the party platform adopted by virtually every rock band, Jethro Tull were the lone dissenters.
I wasn't into the drug culture and party culture of the times, says Anderson.
It always offended me that people assumed I was on amphetamines, or something. His temperance earned him the disdain of at least one fellow musician.
We were Led Zeppelin's support act on a rather lengthy arena tour. And although they were party animals and certainly lived life to the excess, we got on fine with them. But Robert Plant didn't like the idea that I wasn't playing the game. I suspect he found that irritating about me, and I think that's part of the reason he and I never hit it off. Anderson's sober attitude toward drugs extended to his political beliefs, and at a time when criticizing the status quo was de rigueur for rock stars, he stayed true to his conservative views. There's a line in 'Living in the Past' that caused a bit of a problem with some people, he says. It goes, 'Now there's revolution but they don't know what they're fighting.' That was another one of the things that got me into trouble with people of my generation and with other musicians. No one likes folks who appear to be bucking the trend. So many musicians were politically and socially going down this prescribed track of appearing to have left-wing credentials, whilst at the same time raking in vast piles of money and living in big houses in Laurel Canyon. I found that a little odd.

I saw Jethro Tull in concert a couple of years ago. The Chieftans opened for them. It was a great show.

Rush is libertarian and that is as close as it comes to being conservative. No belief in organized religion in that band at all not to mention the total disgust over guns.Wasn't aware of the total disgust over guns. How'd that come about?
And I'll have to give MFH another listen, I listend to that once and didn't care for it.
