[history]
Republican businessman Bill Simon hired a key figure from the Traditional Values Coalition, a conservative religious group that lobbies to outlaw abortion and block gay-rights laws, to help him win the GOP nomination for governor.
Simon, the political neophyte who upset former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan in the March 5 primary, paid $30,000 in consulting fees during the final weeks of the campaign to Louis Philip "Phil" Sheldon Jr., a longtime anti-abortion and anti-gay rights activist, according to documents filed with the secretary of state.

Have had dealings with Phil. He is a solid, stand-up guy who doesn't have a mean-spirited bone in his body. As to the leftwing hissy fit over his views on abortion and homosexuality, I guess "tolerance" is only to be practiced by conservatives.

Simon is going to get about 2% of the San Francisco vote, anyhow. This smear job can't hurt him there!

Simon hired anti-gay, anti-choice activistWell, he has my vote. Or at least, he would if he was running in my state. I guess I'll have to settle for having the President's little brother as my governor.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, go download the Seinfeld episode "THE COUCH." It's actually a brilliant political commentary about how ridiculous pro-abortion advocates are that they have no tolerance for people who don't agree with them on this one issue. In this episode, Elaine decides she can't eat at a restaurant because the owner is pro-life. So then Jerry dares her to ask her wonderful new boyfriend what his stance on abortion is. Elaine is crushed when the guy she said was "too good looking to be pro-life" tells her he hopes someday the Supreme Court will rule against Roe v. Wade. She of course breaks up with him.
Larry Elder was saying this week that to liberals, Simon is an extreme right wing staunch conservative because, knowing nothing else about him, he is pro-life-- and for liberals, well, that's all they need to know.

Even more reason to vote for Simon in November.

I hope these 'smears' continue. Maybe the good folks in CA will just get sick of them and vote for Simon just to pi$$ these people off!! Hey, whatever works to get Simon elected!

Thats why I always attempt to tell my non political friends (who are generally conservative) when it doubt (about a candidate's stance on other issues) always vote for the one that is pro-life. Even if that's not a big issue to you (as it is for me) you generally end up with the most conservative person.

Simon against killing babies in the womb, men marrying men
Wow, you think the founding fathers would have ever dreamed this would be controversial?

Saw this on the front page of the Sunday paper...It was the top lead story above the fold. Total liberal crap...I am so pissed at the Examiner and Chronicle.
Another Freeper came up with the idea of making a simple bumper sticker:
Dump Davis!
I am going to have my conservative printing freind make thousands of these this week. I am going to hand them to conservatives, send samples to KSFO (conservative talk station), and distribute them far and wide.
We need a SoreLoserman type event using a Dump Davis.

Bookmarked as an example of "press bias", "simon bashing" and a new category (for me): "printing Gray Davis' press releases as news copy". This reads like a Sunday op-ed, but I'll bet that it's straight out of the main news section.
To: Pokey78
He distributed e-mails, including one that touted Simon as the best candidate to "undo four years of liberalism, homosexuality and anti- family values in California at the hands of Governor Gray Davis,"...I don't know how much a "Governor" Simon could undo, but I'd enjoying watching him at work. In the last ten years, California has become a morass of liberal-socialism and a cesspool for secular humanism.
If Simon can beat Davis, he's got his work cut out for him.

have there been any Gray/Simon polls taken? I mean legitimate ones.

Interesting that you mention Seinfeld. In another episode George and Ellain goto a 'psychic' who is pregnant and smoking cigarettes. Ellain has a hissy fit. In keeping with liberal hypocrisy she detested pro-lifers but got all cazy about this woman smoking while pregnant. Apparently it's ok to kill your baby but you better not smoke before you do it.
