Hispanics nationwide have a stake in the Texas governor's race. Laredo businessman and millionaire Tony Sanchez won the Democratic primary by about a 2 to 1 margin. If Sanchez unseats Republican Gov. Rick Perry in November, he will become the first Hispanic governor of Texas. Texas, following California, also would become the second state in which Hispanic voters put an end to Republican dominance.
In California, Hispanic voters were something of a sleeping giant. That all changed with the administration of Pete Wilson, the Republican governor who stupidly decided to exploit the state's xenophobes and bash immigrants. Wilson blamed immigrants - legal and illegal - for just about everything from lousy schools and health care to the failure to achieve world peace.
Faced with such abuse, the sleeping giant woke up. Voter registration drives became a favorite pastime in Hispanic neighborhoods. In 1998, Gray Davis became the first Democratic governor of California in 16 years.
He trounced his Republican opponent Dan Lungren, drawing 58 percent of the vote; Lungren got 38 percent. Davis captured just about every voter block except for white men, Republicans and Protestants. He carried Hispanics by a great margin. The Texas primary race, similarly, drew a heavy Hispanic vote in the southern part of the state. Observers said more Hispanics were moved to vote. While the major Democratic candidates both were Hispanic, Sanchez said his opponent, Dan Morales, was embarrassed to be Hispanic.
Sanchez reportedly spent about $18 million to defeat Morales. This is a record for a Texas primary, and it reflects an odd element to the general election. Sanchez is new to politics and wealthy. The family fortune is said to be $600 million. He reportedly threw as much as $13 million of his own money into his campaign kitty.
Hispanics are the fastest growing minority in the country. And as they increase, so too does their political influence. This is the most important political trend since Richard Nixon launched his successful southern strategy in which he urged conservative southern Democrats to switch to the Republican Party. It's a trend that could affect Illinois, New Jersey and some southern states where there is growing Hispanic influence.

Twenty million dollars may buy a lot of television ads, but it apparently didnt buy much enthusiasm for Tony Sanchez among Texas Democrats.
Despite Sanchezs record-breaking $20 million spend-a-thon as well as several high profile, hotly contested races on the Democrat ticket, Democrat primary turnout for 2002 was depressingly low. In fact, Democrat turnout was the second lowest for a gubernatorial election in 30 years
See the second chart here--------LINK
Meanwhile, 2002 Republican primary turnout was the second highest for the same time period for a gubernatorial election.
Now, using Democrat logic, these dismal results mark a turning point for Texas Democrats a resurrection for a party that has lost every single statewide office over the past ten years.
In fact, the head of the Democrat Party recently bragged that the primary numbers mean Democrats are back with a passion.
If setting the second worst record for your party means youre back, where in the world have you been?!?
Suffice it to say that rumors of the Democrats resurgence have been greatly exaggerated.
Why are so many so bent on making white people a minority in the United States?
You're dead wrong!
For the most part the concern is principled and it's not about immigrants, not even about immigration.
The concern is about unregulated immigration and the ability of our society to absorb the masses being encouraged to emmigrate.
It's about the concentration of immigrants in areas which have neither the resources nor infrastructure to absorb these masses. It's about the consequent multicutural nightmares that arise when absorbtion is not possible.
Both the society and the immigrant are harmed. The American culture is not preserved and the immigrant is denied the American dream because his presence has erased the culture and thereby the possiblity of achieveing the dream. The immigrant has not escaped but simply drug his cultural limitations with him.
By the way the real Hispanic state right now in New Mexico with a 39% Hispanic poulation..........
THe first Hispanic Gov will be BILL RICHARDSON in NM"
Why are so many so bent on making white people a minority in the United States?
One reason is because they know they can get away with it.
Most people believe that being a part of the politically incorrect opposition to immigration is worse than their children living in a balkanized, bilingual Third World America. That's how screwed up things are.
1) New Mexico
2) California
3) Texas
4) AZ
First Hispanic Gov will be in NEW MExico in 2003....Bill Richardson is half hispanic, then California, follwed by TX and AZ, and then the 4 states will join Mexico........ lol....or maybe not...............
Not only that, but we were told lies that America's demographic composition would not be changed by changes in immigration policies.
Perhaps I'm not as optimistic as you are, but I feel that there is something that is seriously wrong with a man who has worked his whole life to provide for his family being over-run by a third world culture, even in his own neighborhood. It's as if America doesn't want to survive, nor do its citizens want it to survive.
Looking back on history, it appears that our nation is on the tail-end of its prominence.
Houston, I think we've found the problem...
Let me ask you a defining question FF, would you rather live in an America populated with Thomas Sowell's and Linda Chavez's, or one with Ted Turner's and Alec Baldwin's?
