WASHINGTON -- When President George W. Bush meets with Mexican President Vicente Fox next week, liberalizing U.S. immigration policy will not be on the agenda, much to the chagrin of Mexican officials.

While immigration advocates hope to at least get a sign that the United States is ready to resume negotiations on the policy, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who are close to the issue expect Bush to be vague and general.

Ah yes, I see the tactic. You all are going to take "credit" for this, even though Bush has stated that there would be no blanket amnesty.

Your game is very transparent, IMHO.

That's interesting. I think Bush going to Monterrey is a good idea too ---that's one Mexican city that is fairly properous and they didn't get prosperous by sending all their citizens away. It should be used as an example for the rest of Mexico.

LOL!

Yep, after your bombardment of days of hyperbole and the doom and gloom scenarios, I am laughing out loud at your transparency.

You deserve it.

"The Mexican government is very lenient with the United States," Mexican congressman and opposition party member Marti Batres said recently. "It seems that he's governing for them and not for Mexico."

So when do Americans start getting the rights to buy land wherever they want in Mexico, vote in Mexican elections, hold dual citizenships so they can vote twice (thereby nullifying the votes of the sons and daughters of those who built the country) and demand all public services regardless of the legality of their immigration status?

We did have some of those rights once in Mexico ---that's how we ended up with Texas, so now Mexico is a little leery about letting foreigners come over en masse and taking over the place.

said Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, who favors increased immigration.

The enemy within. Did anyone see the other day how President Bush specifically acknowledged Chris Cannon's presence at the White House Ceremony with our partners in the war against terrorism? What was he promised by President Bush is what I want to know? This man should be booted from office.

When the president of the great sovereign nation of the United States of America meets with the honcho of a 3rd world sewer one can hardly call it a summit meeting. And don't you forget that Vicente!!

Maybe 600,000 e mails to Bush did the trick, either that or he is hiding based on "out of sight, out of mind".

I'm all in favor of a new guest worker program. Terrific idea and one we should implement as soon as possible.

Legalization of some current illegals under such a program would be okay with me, too, but they still have to go home at some point.

Mass legalization and creation of citizenship? No way, Jose.

Bush seems to be doing the right thing.

What was he promised? My guess is tariff protection for the Geneva Steel plant that he and his brother own in Provo, which had to file Chapter 11 in January.

Undoubtedly the Cannon's have other ideas involving cheap labor, since Chris did his mission in central America, and see's some ripe pickings, but the first order of business is increase the value of Geneva Steel. The tariff is just the thing to do that.

In the war against terrorism Fox put his relationship with Castro's terrorist regime ahead of the relations of Mexico with the U.S. President Bush declared that in the war against terrorism you are with us or you are with the terrorists. Castro is the main capo of the drug and terrorist network in this hemisphere. Fox publicly asserted that the relations between Cuba and Mexico are closer than ever.

Thanks to God, we have a president who would place first and foremost the security and the interest of the U.S.

Would you want a president who didn't care anything about the opinion of the American people? Who didn't respond to objections from them? I hope he does take what Americans want into account so that he doesn't just take orders from Fox. We didn't elect Fox to anything so he should just keep his mind on Mexico and work on reforming it.
