WASHINGTON - The Democratic-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines Thursday to kill the nomination of Judge Charles Pickering to the appeals court, handing President Bush a stinging defeat in a racially-charged confirmation battle.
In a series of roll calls, the panel also snubbed Bush's request to allow a vote in the full Senate on Pickering, a 64-year-old Mississippian with more than a decade on the bench.
LOL That's an understatement! I must admit that I have mixed feelings about some of the things he's done, and some he may do. But, this is an election year...and, you have to admit, he has co-opted the dems issues. They have been left with nothing...and that makes me happy.
BTW, WELCOME HOME!!!
Okay. But there is something he could have done after the campaign and it would have been all together legal. Ashcroft should have challenged the appointment of Jean Carnahan. She had no right to that Senate seat. She wasn't on the ballot, her husband was. Then he died in the plane crash. With his opponent dead, the seat belonged to John Ashcroft. Ashcroft's decision not to challenge it was plain dumb. We should just forget about the past and look towards November on this.
Are you sure about that?
One thing I've learned in life, don't make the same mistake a second time. Moving forward is one thing, forgetting the past is another and forgetting the past in this case is wrong.
DO NOT allow Sen. Leheay and his fellow LIBERALS on the Judiciary Committee to prevent this vote from going to the floor!!!

Tweak the Beak for a THRILL!
The person who shifted power in the Senate has a name, and it is Jeffords. Lay your anger where it belongs, at the feet of the backstabber and traitor.
DO NOT allow Sen. Leheay and his fellow LIBERALS on the Judiciary Committee to prevent this vote from going to the floor!!!
And what are you doing to prevent that? This is not a jibe; it is a for real question. Each of us must take responsibility not just to talk the talk, but walk the walk.
As in walking precincts to get information out, manning phone banks to get the vote out, and sending money to run campaigns.
The socialists are more dedicated than you and I are.
Cowardice? Come on, get real!
>>>It's what bullies do to those who show weakness.<<<
President Bush hasn't shown any weakness.
>>>If George W. Bush knows what's good for him - and the country - he had better grow a spine, quick.<<<
Are we talking about the same George W.Bush, whose sitting at 80+% in the polls? Grow a spine? President Bush is tough as teflon coated leather. I think you're hyperventilating a bit. Calm down, someone might take you for a 'Bush Basher'.
My Senators are Feinstein and Boxer. If I call Feinstein that just proves to her that Pickering is a "divisive" nomination and that was her "reason" for voting against him. And Boxer is a communist.
Besides, the last time I emailed Feinstein was over the EP-3 incident with China, and I think I told her she was dog shit for kowtowing in fear to the ChiComs before letting our President and Commander in Chief handle the situation.
I don't think I'm on her invitation list for her next tea party.
"He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments."Nothing there about a committee - Senate would mean all 100 senators.
Article II, Section 2, US Constitution
I agree with you. There is some truth in what you say. The Democrats are much better at that type of infighting. Too often, Republicans have a habit of shooting themselves in the foot. We must stay focused.
How about:
We will remember [Pickering] in November!
I think Bush can and I think he might.
