? About the Soldier Killed On The Ground
3-6-02 | self

Posted on 03/06/2002 3:56:35 AM PST by paul in cape

It seems to me that the soldier who fell out of the copter was captured by the enemy was then a Prisoner Of War. Therefore, he was not killed in combat, but executed as a prisoner. I've checked the newswires, and have yet to see the press release from Ramsey Clark about the mistreatment of prisoners.

For that matter, where are the whiney Democrats who were all over the networks about Bitmo prisoners.

I'll check back later.

Charlie Gibson on GMA just said "he was executed by the enemy."

The Afghan fighters are all terrorists. When they executed a U.S. soldier they proved it conclusively. More and more word will be spreading about Taliban and al Qaida terrorists executing our soldier .....

It will be spread all over the media "Tomorrow". Sort of like those signs I see that say "Free Beer Tomorrow".

It's understandable to be outraged, but are you a savage? Will you pull the trigger yourself?

I'd pay good money for the privilege.

"Will you pull the trigger yourself? "

If he won't, I will.

When you are on the right course, it doesn't make sense to deviate from that course because your enemy proves conclusively why he is your enemy. Under normal circumstances we abide by the rules of the Geneva Convention, and I believe we should continue that course, else, the next conflict we find ourselves in could prove even worse for those in harms way. We should just chalk the death of this brave warrior up to "knowing the enemy" as if we didn't already. WTC, We shall never forget.

"That brave man took the bullet that could have been meant for any American"

I haven't seen any reports on how he was killed, and this is conjecture on my part...but given the nature of the enemy, I doubt he was killed by a bullet.

then a Prisoner Of War

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

We refuse to call the people we capture "prisoners of war" because it would qualify them for a specific type of treatment under the geneava (sp?) convention. Can we demand our guys be classified as POWs when we don't extend the same thing to the people we capture?

The taliban probably wouldn't recognize any type of civilized rules when it comes to the treatment of prisoners (much as the Japanease didn't in WWII), but we undercut our claims that our guys should be treated as POWs when we don't treat the people we capture as POWs (I know we treat the people we capture fairly well, but we are not extending them all of the protections and benefits a POW would get under the Geneva convention, that's why we're not calling them POWs.)

Let me know if you penny up short - my wallet is already open -

Somewhere today there is an American family grieving the loss of thier son in a heroic and epic battle. May he not be forgotten or his sacrifice minimized by those too timid for the righteous battle of survival and freedom. God Bless Him and His family and pray for the Lords hand upon us.

Charlie Gibson on GMA just said "he was executed by the enemy."

Fox 'n Friends are saying he was 'MURDERED' and where's the "outrage?" They are very upset about this and the lack of outrage and news coverage condemning what happened to the solider.

PS, the Geneva Convention, was designed, like our Constitution, for law abiding nations, and now we know even more about the enemy, as if we didn't know already, do the words lawless, ruthless, without mercy, apply? To them not us. We kill to avoid being killed, and for good to reign over evil, they kill, because they are ruthless, bloodthirsty, evil, and misguided.

I'm listening for the outrage from our "friends" in Europe.

(Sound of pin dropping.)

I'd prefer something more ritualized and a lot slower. The Aztecs had some nice techniques. But surely you would not be so insensitive as to suggest they were savages?

If ever there was a situation begging for a tactical nuke, this is it.
We have a massed enemy located in one isolated place, far from non-combatants.
I say nuke 'em and not shed the blood of one more American serviceman.
