If this is the biggest blot on Billy Graham's character there really isn't a concern.
Actually I think it is the biggest blot. He has said some stupid things in his life. Haven't we all. Unfortunately Billy Graham is not as perfect as some of the freepers around here think they are.
While reading over this thread I noticed that you ask this question of more than one person, yet the people you ask have said nothing about hateing Jews. Here, have a little of this....
I'd just like to see some honesty here. If it's anti-semitic to express concern about Jews being overrepresented in the media, then it's racist to complain about whites being overrepresented in other fields.
So why isn't the media publishing an article calling themselves racists?
Excellent and accurate response!
When the topic is Jews the same documentation is never provided, merely the insinuations.
I am quite confident that the heritage of 20th Century German thought lives on the wicked imaginations of some who delude themselves by claiming the name. I hope that addresses your question in language you can understand.
This was true 30 years ago and is true today ... only today, whenever truth conflicts with political correctness, the PC wins out.
Then the Jews should call for the providing of documentation and the public posting of it. To date, such documentation be aired anywhere is met with firestorms of accusations of anti-semitism. Even statement such as those made by Marlon Brando, Charlton Heston and, here, Billy Graham are heavily sanctioned. Brando was nearly blackballed.
I'd say, let the anti-semites post their docs and let the Jews refute it. I have no idea if the allegations of media saturation by Jews is accurate or not. I haven't taken the time to do the research, but others say they have. Fine, then let both sides see the evidence. If it is not factual that should allow the Jews to settle the question once and for all.
Don't you think?
I just read the morning papers and lo and behold Graham addressed the situation and apologized for it. While I'm still not happy about his comments I appreciate his being man enough to address and refute his earlier statements.
I agree. Let any evidence compiled get public airing without summary accusations of anti-semitism. If the Jews can refute such evidence, why wouldn't they be glad to see the compilation so it could be proved inaccurate for all time? Why let his issue fester?
I, for one, would like to see it, and the Jews refutation of it.
I just read the morning papers and lo and behold Graham addressed the situation and apologized for it. While I'm still not happy about his comments I appreciate his being man enough to address and refute his earlier statements.
As we know, apologies for statements like that from public faces is done more from fear of accusations of anti-semitism than acknowledgements of a true change of mind. I wouldn't attach a whole lot of credence to it.
The other reason for this is the strong emphasis placed in traditional Jewish homes of study being important.
On another note, the idea that the media is somehow responsible for society's ills is infantile and belittles the importance of the home one is raised in.
If you put the word "liberal" in front of "Jews" in each of those comments, you've got a political discussion about ideological opponents. I'm sure somewhere on the Left nasty things are said about Christians, Catholics, Fundamentalists, etc. Like Ted Turner, for instance. Remember Al Gore's "extra-chromosome" slur? FDR and JFK's daddy certainly said things about "Jews" that were equally if not more colorful. So has Jesse Jackson. The disproportionate representation of LIBERAL non-Christians in the media is simply a statistical fact. One need not push the PANIC Button with the "J" word to figure this out as a prominent feature of American culture. The national media culture is not exactly staffed by Sunday School teachers. And if it was, you know who would be the first to be crying and screaming about separation of church and state and VAST RIGHT-WING conspiracies. Liberals. Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh have them throwing constant fits as it is.
Your statements are pretty much boilerplate facts, but this one I may be able to take issue with in this way: there seems to be a disturbing trend in the entertainment media to imply the existence of customary behaviors in movies and shorts before the behavior is noted in society in other than fringe elements.
The general wisdom in the past, and now, is that movies and shorts (TV) reflects customary behaviors in society, but there seems to be, more and more, the tendency to anticipate fringe behaviors and apologize for same using intense visuals, and dialogue that presumes that behavior to be widespread, positively sanctioned and acceptable. This is the difference between telling stories and social engineering.
Children, with their lack of life experience, are most affected.
