I was only 4 when it happened but it is, to date, the biggest fix in sports history. To date, those silver medals sit in a safe deposit box at the IOC as not one American accepted them.
To: section9
Anyhoo, this guy is your standard EU mandarin: "How dare you ask questions of me when you don't even know the procedures..." Nailed it. Good call.
To: Howlin
You know, this has the potential to be a really big deal. Chretien is French-Canadian. All Canada is outraged and want those two to have the medal. Chretien will be expected to speak out. If he doesn't, we could see big trouble in Canada.
Darn.
Heheheh.

Now he's saying that an "official appeal" is needed? What the heck do they think this is??? "You cannot ask me what will be our approach...in an appeal..I cannot give you a response..."
Didn't these judges take an oath on Friday night?

Wrong. NBC has the Winter and Summer Olympics broadcast rights sown up for at least a decade. Also, the ratings are superb. In the midst of February sweeps, NBC is smashing everyone else. Last night it was triple the nearest competitor. That's on a night when NBC has been roughed up badly by the other networks. If anything, the controversy will have even more people watching the ice dancing to see if the judges go ahead and fix it.

In case anyone's wondering, they're not running the press conference on any of MSNBC's online audio/video sites.

Sounds like the judges are getting fired at the very least.
'I cannot give you a hypothetical resopnse' was this guy working for the Clinton adminstration?
To: DoughtyOne
"...because I haven't even received a formal complaint from the Canadians, the US or most importantly Russia." Most importantly Russia? The comment you quote refers to a championship in Vancouver last year in which the same Canadian pair won the gold and the same Russian pair won the silver despite the fact that their performances were very close in quality and difficulty. It was NOT a reference to the Salt Lake competition.
To: Miss Marple
The French seem to live in their own little world. I don't think they have a clue as to what strategic global thinking is in a number of areas. When it comes to military matters, world aid or public relations, they're clueless.

He is shocked by this reporters question!!!!
Its David Bloom from NBC

Go away? Did you see Scott Hamilton last night? He is FURIOUS...and he is sitting right there in that audience.
They will talk about this during every single event until these games are over.

Not only that, but the Canadian guy is from Quebec, and the girl is from the west, so the PM can make nice to both sides of the country if he can twist some arms. Russia sure buys a lot of wheat from us....

This guy is appalled that we would even ask if the Canadians would get a gold medal and that the Russians would give back theirs.
How dare we judge the performances for ourselves!! We know nothing about skating. He is shocked that the question would be asked.
To: DoughtyOne
This guy is Italian.
To: Amore
David Bloom of NBC really getting under Eurotrash's skin 'I am astonished at your question'
