It always amazes me that the people most obsessed about God are the atheists.

Kahle to teach three religious criticism courses at the university's Academy for Lifelong Learning.

Seperation of Church and state? Are the taxpapers are paying him to teach "his religious beliefs" or did he do these classes for free. What a hypocrite!

Mitchell Kahle added another scalp to his belt when restrictions on apparel and accessories depicting Satanism were yanked from Kaimuki High School's dress code last week.

"To me, Satanism is a superstition," Kahle said. "Just like Christianity."

The point, he insisted, was that if one religious symbol is banned from a public school dress code, they all must go.

What is a symbol for the "religion" on Satanism? Is Anton Levay's Church of Satan tax exempt? I know that he tried to bring lawsuits against others that tried to make their own "Church Of Satan". As I understood him from an interview I once saw, he did not believe in God but did hold to some concept of "Satan". It was all a commercialization co-opting of a figure from another religion. Even Sammi Davis Jr. says that he only joined for the orgies. It was just another trademarked religion (like Scientology).

It's largely about being a fashion accessory. It's unclear exactly what is banned by this. Are we talking about concert shirts with slogans like "Anti-Christ Superstar", "I Am The God Of F&*#"? Are we talking about tattoos? Are we talking about pentagrams worn around the neck?

Are gang colors banned? What's the difference?

"I'm a civil rights activist," said Kahle, who describes himself as an atheist/agnostic/humanist who is fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

Fiscally conservative and socially liberal = "I want government to provide for people who are free to act as irresponsible as they want but I don't want to pay for it"

"Women's rights, gay rights, animal rights — any kind of injustice. I have an attraction to the underdog. I volunteer for all kinds of causes. I'm just known for separation of state and church."

Any kind of justice except for those who wish to embrace their faith.

Question -- What difference is there, other than a formal education, between a tribal Witch Doctor and an Ordained Minister?

The two(Mitchell Kahle and Holly Huber) arrived in Honolulu in 1992 and established Island InfoTech, a company that designs data bases and Web sites.

Anyone know more about these two? I recall their website being active in opposing rallies for Bush during the Florida recount. Are they active in the Democrat Party in Hawaii?

aaahh, so Mr. Kahle can freely express his religious beliefs(or lack thereof), but everyone else can not. Anyone see the irony here?

For the record, sounds like the guy is a Christian basher as well. I know it was not thought of at the time, but imo, there is some event leading up to the 7th grade incident--molestation? even demonic possession? that caused him to "suddenly" deny his faith. Think John Walker here. It's a shame, like Walker, that instead of dealing with his issues(and he's had a lot more time to do so), he is using his hatred as a means by which to restrict other folks expression of thier faith merely because the very site of thier symbols offends him. I don't know about anyone else, but I get the creeps by people like this where thier agenda and reason for lack of faith is not clear. Like something very sinister is lurking beneath. Many people in this camp you can chalk up to the sheer stupidity that sheeple have, but someone like this--shiver.

"He has a thing against Christianity. I sometimes wonder if he's just using the separation-of-church-and-state issue just to bash the church."

I'd guess he's mad at G-d for not living up to his expectations. And though I could be wrong, I'd guess that he would never admit it if I were right.

Shalom.

"interfaith meetings of understanding" ...? Do you think they put Jesus in the closet while they have their meeting? The only thing they should "understand" is that Jesus is the "the way, the truth, and the life" according to His own words. Why can't the Methodists just read John 14:6? I understand other faiths perfectly - they are spurious faiths with false gods. The truth must be witnessed in love - this codependent "interfaith" stuff is not showing love to unbelievers since it perpetuates lies. I do not see "tolerance" preached in the bible. Back to basics Methodists!

That is, if you are non-religious. If you have a religion, well, to heck with you. Now, if you want to plaster your office building with gay porno- that is another story entirely I'm sure. In that case you have oogles of 'civil rights'.

I remember the Kolekole Pass cross incident. The jerk claimed the cross "offended him," that he was forced to see it when he drove by.

Actually the cross was only visible if you carefully checked your rearview mirror at just the right angle when southbound on H2 for a very brief period of time. It was located not far from a rather obscure road only accessible to the military that has since been closed because of increased security since 9/11 (it traverses the Lualualei Naval Magazine).

It was rather rusty and not in the best of shape - I could understand the argument that it was too costly to maintain, but the timing of its being taken down was too close to our pro-Satanist friend's protests not to wonder...

"I can promise you I'm the only person in my family who has read the Bible from cover to cover," said Kahle, who contends that if you're going to argue with theologians with lofty degrees, you better know your stuff.

Oh brother! didn't the article say he came from a religious family? Oh I guess it was one of those religious families who cared so much about their faith, that they never bothered to read the Bible through even once. I wonder how much effort he actually made to honestly understand the Bible and Christian Belief?

But in the seventh grade he declared that he did not believe in God, and that he never had.

"Religion dropped off my radar screen after that" he said. "I never thought about it."

He locked in his disbelief in a child's understanding of Christianity at an early age. His subsequent adult behavior looks as though he's been doing all in his power to reinforce his early misapprehension. I suppose it's never even occurred to him that he's a bigger religious fanatic than almost any of those he rails against.

Regarding this wacko Mitchell whatever his name is.... I do not understand how a man who hates God so much can have faith in anything. The word faith it self is believing in somethings that you can not see, or hear, of feel..... so if he is allowed to have faith in anything, then why does he have a problem with others having faith in God. I do not understand such a closed mind. I am not a super religious fanatic. I believe that people can make their own choices, and that they can live as a good person with out going to church, but if you do not believe in God, how can you have faith in anything good? And, just because he does not believe, who's is to say he is right? He has no more proof that God doesn't exist, than I do that he does. This man is just a sad human being who undoubtedly has some reason in his past to make him so hateful and ugly. The reason people chose to “trust in God” is because people like him make it hard to trust in humanity.
