Hello Everyone,
I am currently in the market to purchase a personal handgun, and would like some advice on what would be a good choice. The only requirements I have are that it must be a .40 S&W and be small and concealable. If you have any experience with a weapon that looks like it would meet those requirements, please post and let me know.

It seems the money that the NRA may receive under CARA has split the board.
Rest assured that NRA would not attach its name and support to a bill if its effect was to infringe upon any of our members' Constitutional rights. Our support for CARA is tied to Title III which is one title of ten in the bill. On the other hand, property-rights groups oppose a different title of the ten. Professional observers understand the legislative process is one of debate and amendments, and concerned individuals would be better served by an action plan to amend the bill rather than ad hominem attacks on groups such as the NRA who are simply fulfilling their mandate to serve their own constituencies. We suggest you inquire of those who are provoking these attacks what their legislative plan of action may be. I never said "I despises the NRA". You assumed, that because I did not renew my membership to the NRA, that I despise them. Never assume anything.
I'm sorry, but I will not support an organization, no matter how well meaning they are, that distorts the truth, to gain support, as the author of the original article did.
I also cancelled my membership to the Republican Party, does that mean I despise the Republicans? No it does not. But because they, like the Dems, use misinformation, I will not hand over my hard earned money to support them.
Currently, my only support goes to Free Republic. So let the truth be told, and let us decide if its good or bad.
Also, yes I would still be able to purchase a gun, even without the NRA.

The NRA has always strove to tell the truth about legislation and when they are wrong they promptly admit it.

I think given today's anti-gun enviornment in many parts of the country it's foolish to argue amongs't ourselves. Frankly, forgetting whether we're members or not, from the perspective of someone who's pro 2nd, I'm not sure I understand the anti-NRA position. I understand some may prefer more aggressive groups, but that's no reason to bash the NRA.
I second on the Sig. I've had a 9mm P228 for years and the weapon is absolutely flawless. You can't beat them for reliability, and they'll still not jam after hundreds, or even thousands of successive rounds. Someone else may have, but I've never even heard of one jamming with a standard clip. I have had it once hang when feeding the first round of a new 20-round clip (spring was pretty tight, and I don't think I pulled the slide all the way).
As far as usability, I like the feel and weight of it much better than the Beretta. The sights are perfect, and just draw your eyes to a good lineup. The safety is always on and is taken off internally just before your trigger pull drops the hammer, so it's excellent for situations where you just need to pull out and shoot (double action first shot, with round in chamber).
There's a reason why much of the Secret Service, and a lot of other law enforcement use the smaller Sigs for concealed weapons. I've also heard (may be true) that they beat the Beretta on the Army handgun competition but lost the bid because they refused to let their guns be manufactured in the U.S. where they couldn't ensure their quality control (in fact, this bit the Beretta when stress cracks were found on later U.S. made models).
It appears that you are over-reacting. MI didn't bash the NRA, he expressed some dissappointment with some of their actions and stated that he chose not to renew his membership.
To denounce him as being a traitor to the cause for not belonging to your personal favorite lobbying group seem misguided to me. Especially in light of the fact that we do not know what, if any, other gun rights groups he may belong to.
I have to concur with the comments you've made. I confess a liking for the 1911. But in a down-and-dirty combat situation, there is no way I would favor it over the Glock, which is much more rugged.
He is a Federal LEO. Read his homepage. He obviously doesn't care about the Second Amendment or legislation infringing on it judging from his quotes on the other thread. As an LEO he is above the law hence his quote:
