Despite club members' fears of losing revenue used for local charitable activities, the Weymouth Board of Health has voted to extend a townwide smoking ban to include private organizations.

In a unanimous vote Wednesday night, the health board removed an exemption in the town's regulations that previously allowed smoking at private clubs, such as the American Legion and the Elks Club.

When the government gears up to control the population, the substance no longer matters

You're new here, aren't you?

health board's decision...

Most of these boards are appointed, they have a tendancy to attract do-gooders and the friends of the reigning pols.

I meant new to threads having to do with smoking Nazis, but never mind. I probably didn't make myself clear.

I'm having trouble understanding why:

1. You felt that calling people on this thread "holier-than-thou–law-abiding tobacco fiends" and "tobacco junkies" was necessary. Ranting right out of the box doesn't exactly enhance your argument, whatever it was.

2. Why you assume everyone who smokes tobacco is a staunch defender of the war on drugs. Still bitter about that pot bust? Hey, we didn't do it to you.

Apparently my late father-in-law was prophetic when he moved his family out of Taxachusetts in the early 60's!!!!

As a WWII veteran I'm sure he's turning over in his grave. He didn't work on carriers in the Pacific to be told he couldn't have a cigarette with his beer at the VFW.

My favorite quip about the Health Boards in this neighborhood is that if these people did something useful, like run security at Logan, a lot of problems would be solved.

Their tactic of dressing teenagers up to look like adults and see if they can be sold cigarettes (so licenses can be pulled) is reprehensible. Aren't they contributing to the delinquency of these minors by showing them how to buy cigarettes illegally?

Will no one will shed a tear for the misunderstood tobacco junkie. Now all you holier-than-thou–law-abiding tobacco fiends will understand ........

Why do you insist on being so antagonistic? I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate being labeled "pot-head" because of your position on the marijuana laws. You seem to be unaware that there are many non-users of tobacco that have the same problems with these regulations that the smokers have.

If all you wish to do is find fault with people discussing an issue different than yours, why don't you just leave us alone.

I prefer to call it strong sarcasm. And for it wo work as well as this proves it is rooted in truth.

You seem to be unaware that there are many non-users of tobacco that have the same problems with these regulations that the smokers have.
If that is really the truth, and the government outlaws tobacco, don’t expect continued support from the nannies, statist and law freaks here at FR.

…why don't you just leave us alone
crickets… (sob)

In the first place, to call us "misunderstood tobacco junkies" is completely wrong.
We, on this forum, are neither misunderstood nor junkies. We have made our understanding of this issue crystal clear many times.
As for understanding how the pot smokers feel, I personally knew that a LOOONG time ago. I no longer partake, through personal choice not through governmental interference, but I begrudge no one that choice.
Most of the "tobacco junkies" on this forum like to smoke, but the real issue is property rights. Until they DO outlaw tobacco, which I'm not so sure will happen, the property owner SHOULD be able to make the choice of whether or not to allow smoking of tobacco on their property, NOT the government. Federal, state, county, or city.

I agree with you.
However, the reality of the matter is that one product is legal, the other is not, at present. There lies the difference with most.

Time for some Rosa Parks-style civil disobedience.

Let's see any Weymouth politician who voted for this get elected after the first decorated WWII vet is ticketed for smoking at the Legion!
