Despite club members' fears of losing revenue used for local charitable activities, the Weymouth Board of Health has voted to extend a townwide smoking ban to include private organizations.

In a unanimous vote Wednesday night, the health board removed an exemption in the town's regulations that previously allowed smoking at private clubs, such as the American Legion and the Elks Club.

Oh yes, we just want it in public areas.
BULLSH*T

"It's a bag job," said Bill McGrail, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. "All the people who work for us have volunteered to be there."

Hear that, they don't even get paid, they VOLUNTEERED to be there. If they really wanted to be in a smoke free environment they would NOT have volunteered.
They are given NO choice by the government. "We know what is best for you. Now DO IT! Seig Heil!

I'm telling you folks, next comes your home.

You know folks, I went through all the revenue provisions in the State of Colorado Constitution and there is no authority for the tax they are imposing on cigarettes. Maybe you should go look in yours in the other states. The gas and diesel fuel taxes are authorized but no others except income tax and other licenses and registrations. Maybe we need to get with the cigarette companies and talk to them about bringing lawsuits against these states. I have already written to my state to "Show Me The Law" which allows them to impose the cigarette tax. Some people are really getting beaten up by these unconstitutional taxes. Washington and Michigan are paying $1 and $.75 respectively.

You're right. I should have posted it in the comments.
The title was already long enough.

The decision came after heated testimony on both sides of the issue, with anti-smoking advocates saying the ban would protect workers in the clubs, and club members arguing it would cause them to lose business that funds their work in the community.

What about arguing for your property rights?

I can't believe something like this could happen in America. I feel physically sick now.

Drugs are bad. Alcohol is bad. Cigarettes are bad. Satisfying food is bad. Reading is bad. Breathing is bad. Get back in your cage and take your antibiotics so you can live forever (and be taxed forever).

The amazing thing is how many people will be OUTRAGED by this who won't bat an eye when hundreds of thousands are jailed for smoking a different plant in their own home...

Will no one will shed a tear for the misunderstood tobacco junkie.
Now all you holier-than-thou–law-abiding tobacco fiends will understand what the typical pot smoker endures, at the least, you will be able to discuss it at long length though jail cell bars!

It still proves that smokers go out more often than non- smokers, were that not the case, non-smoking establishments would not loose business......... after all, the majority are non-smokers.

This is going to reach critical mass real soon.

I'm kind of hoping it starts in VFW's and American Legion Halls all around the country.

Friday or Saturday night, bunch of guys who served in the Armed Forces, apparently under the illusion that we still lived under a Constitutional Republic.

Been working their asses off all week, or are retired and just sitting around with their buddies. Having a couple of beers.

Then one night, the smoking police pay a visit. "Hey buddy, put out that cigarette."

My fondest hope is that a brawl breaks out.

This isn't the "I've got a-a-a-a-a-sthma-a-a-a-a" crowd. This isn't the "Someone in my family once died from cancer" crowd.

These is the blue-collar, get out of my face, you whiny SOB crowd.

Let the games begin.

What is your problem?

When the government gears up to control the population, the substance no longer matters, breath deep the gathering gloom.

Hear we go again. 3 or 4 people telling everyone how they should live.Whats next and whos next. I have voted in every town(forgot, its a city now)election no matter how big or small and i never saw this mentioned on any ballot. Maybe it doesn't have to go to vote,i dont know.

This is a very popular fad thats going on in Mass. Many towns in the state are doing this.Social engineering in the state has taken on the big daddy knows best role.

Last night my fishing club had a meeting at the Marshfield Yacht Club. (about 20 miles south of Boston)

Our club president had to inform us there was to be no smoking because of a recent town law concerning smoking in public. Even though we were an outside club holding a meeting in a private club, they twisted the meaning into a no smoking situation. I am not a smoker by the way but I can see the trend.

They came for the smokers and I said nothing...You know the drill. - Tom

"...breathe deep the gathering gloom."

Okay, we know what YOU'RE smoking! LOL!

It's incredible that people tolerate the arrogance of the health Nazis.

I'll make sure to save a pike for that 'board member'. ;^)
