In the past few months I have noticed that the posters on Free Republic have become more and more hostile towards social conservatism.
And I do not mean indifference (less pro life threads etc) but an outright hostility at pro life and other social conservative causes.
Am I alone in thinking this?
In particular, notice the responses to the thread concerning the recent request by social conservative groups to the FCC to reign in Fox's racey primetime programs.
I wonder if this is becoming only a haven for hedonists and libertarians, and if so, perhaps it would be better for social conservatives to find their own site.
...there are no known violations of the second law of thermodynamics. Ordinarily the second law is stated for isolated [closed] systems, but the second law applies equally well to open systems ... there is somehow associated with the field of far-from equilibrium phenomena the notion that the second law of thermodynamics fails for such systems. It is important to make sure that this error does not perpetuate itself. [Dr. John Ross, Harvard scientist (evolutionist), Chemical and Engineering News, vol. 58, July 7, 1980, p. 40]
"Increase in entropy means a transition from a more orderly state to a less orderly state. . In any naturally occurring process, the tendency is for all systems to proceed from order to disorder." *R. B. Lindsay, "Entropy Consumption and Values in Physical Science, " American Scientist, September 1959, p. 382.
"The quality of entropy generated locally cannot be negative irrespective of whether the system is isolated or not." *Arnold Sommerfeld, Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics (1958), p. 155.
"Evolutionists . . [say that] the Earth, in particular, is an open system; and that in an open system strange things may happen to the entropy, and to everything else. . Some [evolutionists) say that there was a great increase in entropy in the Sun, or in outer space, or somewhere; so that a spontaneous decrease in entropy on the Earth [therefore occurred] and is not surprising. The idea seems to be that an increase in entropy in one place can atone, so to speak, for a decrease in another. It is rather as if one were to expect a small pot of water, put onto the fire, to freeze, provided a larger pot put beside it boil . . But, surely an increase in entropy in one place has to do with an (alleged) decrease in another only if there is some connection of cause and effect between them. And, needless to say, such a connection has not been demonstrated." H. L Armstrong, "Evolutionistic Defense Against Thermodynamics Disproved," . in Creation Research Society Quarterly, March 1980, p. 227.
"Entropy is a property which is defined for and true of each and every part of the universe. There is no evidence whatever than there is a region of the universe where the second law does not apply. Laws of science are universals and the denial of this fact is question-begging." *J.P. Moreland, Universals, Qualities, and Quality Instances: A Defense of Realism (1985).
The people who got sucked in by Shrubs' false "conservative" PR now can't admit that their golden boy is almost as far to the left as algore.
The same place it leads to have the freedom to worship God, and to own property, and to choose your own associations, and to choose your own food and drink, and to make your own decisions provided you don't violate the rights of others in the process.
It will lead to (gasp)... liberty, and personal responsibility.
There isn't anything in that definition about "PRIVATE PROPERTY", which is a subject that Libertarians are, as a rule, abysmally ignorant of.
Libertarians want a complete reconstruction of our society, with with what they consider a just and equitable distribution of property and labor. For example, the seizure of all public schools and municipal properties for redistribution pursuant to some ill-defined scheme they just can't seem to explain.
Redistribution by state does not have to be total, in order to meet the definition of "socialism".
Welfarism is a form of socialism.
It is not as extreme as communism, but it is nevertheless socialism.
I believe it was Ronald Reagan who initiated asset forfeiture in his 1986 Anti-Drug Abuse Act.
I'm a great admirer of Ronald Reagan, but his Zero Tolerance policy on drugs greatly accelerated some of the worst aspects of the WOD.
I don't know about Sparky, but I like to sweet talk 'em, buy them a couple of drinks, then give them a big smoochie on the lips. A few days later they're sneezing and have runny noses, looking at naked statues and saying "You know, it really is kinda like art".
Yes -- and this time we do have the Missing Link!
Yep, can't let the narcs seize your stash! </sarcasm>
Part of me, though, hopes you evolve a brain someday rather than making mindless, ignorant statements...
As you stated, you've only been around FR for a few months..(9.15.01 to be exact). Your profile states you are studied in the Classics and adhere to the tradiional R.C. religion. That's nice. But, I'm sure you understand, or should be cognizant to the fact, that the R.C. "Church", in which I once sought solace, has become a PC and socialist money making machine.
If your looking for "Social Justice" on FReeRepublic in the guise religion, you'll not find it here.
This forum is about our Constitution.
Best FReegards.
YOU sir obviously don't have the first CLUE as to just what a "Conservative" is so let me give you a clue!
Conservatives DO NOT run to the government seeking to impose their views on everyone else!
And who should conduct the auction? The licensee, who has conceded that it has no property rights in the airwaves? The federal government, who has conceded that it has no property rights in the airwaves? The owners of the thousands or millions properties through which the broadcasts will be transmitted?
This imbecile actually believes that there is no demonstrated cause-and-effect relationship between the shining of the sun and the continued existence of life on earth?
........ and start a boycott of the sponsors of said programs and write e-mails to the comment dept. of the offending network(s), etc.
