Wow what a great thread!
I am sorry I could not participate in the live thread-my t.v. is in another room. By the time I got here, there were over 800 posts and I read every single one of them.
Fox did not cover much of Hillary! so I really enjoyed hole in ones photos. I liked the speech a lot-and agree that W is a man of character. Isn't it a shame that we had to endure 8 years of a jerk like Clinton to really appreciate integrity and character? Qualities that should be automatic in a President of this great nation.
Thanks for the super thread.
Not that anybody cares about the impeached one's reaction, but Billy Jeff Clinton did not listen to President Bush's speech as he was doing his own thing in Palo Alto, California. He said he'll read about it tomorrow (Wednesday). For what it's worth.

Now I'm extremely curious as to why she was invited. You wouldn't think filing a lawsuit against your employer (the US military) would exactly be grounds for getting a VIP pass to the State of the Union addressI read somewhere she was the guest of some Democrat congressman from NJ.

Hey - be happy the Justices are showing up. If I remember correctly, the Justices were so disgusted with Clinton at the end that they all played hooky - a wonderful symbolic statement.Brian Williams mentioned that the Supremes were not in attendance at the last State of the Union address. Of course, he DID NOT happen to mention that it was x42's last State of the Union address and they stayed away because he had been impeached.

Uh - 'cause it's voluntary? I believe we'll all find that our leaders in DC use the word "voluntary" in just the same way that the IRS does in labeling our participation in the income tax as "voluntary".
I predict that this vision for "voluntarism" will ultimately prove to be one for mandatory participation, with provisions that allow a citizen to "buy their way out". Ultimately it is simply another tax.
Don't believe me, though, any predictions I make are based only on observance of past events and a gut feel for human nature.

Question: Do you think that Michael New was equally in the wrong, in challenging -- in his case directly refusing to obey -- orders he believed to be unconstitutional? Perhaps. If he was given a lawful and direct order, he was.

Have you noticed how W doesn't hardly ever say "I" in his speeches, unlike Klintoon. It is so refreshing.

Final post. USA Today/CNN overnight poll:
Only 94% approved of the speech!

Did someone get the shot of the RATS sitting on their hands while the Repubs cheered when he asked to make the tax cuts permanent? I haven't been able to find it in the thread. That picture needs to be plastered everywhere.

I hadn't thought of it but you're right! In his speeches, President Bush exemplifies leadership. He's not selling himself, he's not a phoney..He believes the words he uses.
Howard Fineman on with IMUS said President Bush believes what he says, he says people recogize that. He says it's amazing that Bush is so genuine coming as he did, from a family of politicians.
I'm about to read the text with my second cup of coffee, and in the meantime, I watched Georgia Ripkin on FOX, grade the speech and how it was delivered.
Optimistic
Action oriented
Self confident and dominent
Emotionally involved
Healthy

Did anyone else notice Patrick Kennedy during the speech laughing and leaning over to whisper to Ted, he looked like a moron. It apeared Ted told him to quiet down.

He always hugs and kisses those women of the Black Caucus when he speak to Congress. I think Dubya thinks he has a better shot at getting on their good graces than the men, because he can use his Southern charm on the women.
There's no telling what that comment means, though.

California, District #35 (Maxine Waters country) or California, District #9 (Barbara Lee/Ron Dellums country)-- they hate America, not just the President.

Can you post a link to the picture of Cantwell you refer to?I looked on the Seattle Times site (I had seen it on the back page of the "B" section in the paper after hearing about it on talk radio) and I couldn't find it. I'll try again, though - it might depend on who took the picture.
His hand looks to be inches below her waist.
