Domino's Pizza Founder Proposes 250 Foot Tall Crucifix [as big as Statue Of Liberty]

ANN ARBOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan wants to build a 250-foot-high freestanding crucifix at his Domino's Farms office park in this Washtenaw County community.

The 25-story structure, topped by a 40-foot figure of Christ, would be about as tall as the Statue of Liberty, and 51 feet shorter than the tip of its torch.

Monaghan would not go for that. While he apparently loves modern clunky minimalist architecture (Lord knows why), he seems to draw the line at religious art. All of his chapels (known around here as the chapels of Ave Maria) have conventional crucifixes. In the chapel at the law school the custom-made free-standing communion rail just arrived and now communion is always given at the rail!

Pahlease! Hardly. Christ is not suffering any more however to pay for our sins. The job has been completed. He was crucified but He arose. If He was crucified but did not arise then we would still be in our sins. The Resurrection completes the good news. If He was still on the cross, then He would be a mere man and His sacrifice wouldn't have sufficed for anything.

Long after Christ publicly uttered the words "it is finished" from the cross Paul wrote that Christians should "proclaim Christ crucified" (I Cor 1) and Paul emphasized that he knew "nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified" (I Cor 2)

You have not and cannot explained this biblical fact away - a biblical fact that is at odds with your distaste for the including the corpus on the cross.

Long before Christ was crucified, God gave the law to Moses saying "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image." Because many people pray to the crucifix and other statuary, it is best that it not be used.

Don't be an imbecile. I didn't say any such thing. I just said people worship and pray to icons and that is wrong. A crucifix is something that people often pray to. That is wrong. We pray only to God not an image made by hands of man. If a statue of Jesus on the cross merely reminds one of what He did, then I have no problem with it. When it takes on more significance than that and becomes an object of worship, then I do have a problem with it.
