ANN ARBOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan wants to build a 250-foot-high freestanding crucifix at his Domino's Farms office park in this Washtenaw County community.

The 25-story structure, topped by a 40-foot figure of Christ, would be about as tall as the Statue of Liberty, and 51 feet shorter than the tip of its torch.

Monaghan would not go for that. While he apparently loves modern clunky minimalist architecture (Lord knows why), he seems to draw the line at religious art. All of his chapels (known around here as the chapels of Ave Maria) have conventional crucifixes. In the chapel at the law school the custom-made free-standing communion rail just arrived and now communion is always given at the rail!

He is a completely self made man, and possibly the most humble man I have ever met.

Thanks for your comments. I've sent donations to Ave Maria University/Law School two years running, and it's nice to know a good man is behind it.

That's wonderful! I wish every church/chapel would have one.

Pahlease! Hardly. Christ is not suffering any more however to pay for our sins. The job has been completed. He was crucified but He arose. If He was crucified but did not arise then we would still be in our sins. The Resurrection completes the good news. If He was still on the cross, then He would be a mere man and His sacrifice wouldn't have sufficed for anything.

If you build it, they will come. I hope he does build it.

Long after Christ publicly uttered the words "it is finished" from the cross Paul wrote that Christians should "proclaim Christ crucified" (I Cor 1) and Paul emphasized that he knew "nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified" (I Cor 2)

You have not and cannot explained this biblical fact away - a biblical fact that is at odds with your distaste for the including the corpus on the cross.

Long before Christ was crucified, God gave the law to Moses saying "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image." Because many people pray to the crucifix and other statuary, it is best that it not be used.

Jer 5:21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:

See also, v. 22-24.

I suppose #170 is not very nice. I apologize. But where do you draw the line? Is no depiction of Jesus or the Holy Spirit as a dove or the Father as an old wise man allowed?

Don't be an imbecile. I didn't say any such thing. I just said people worship and pray to icons and that is wrong. A crucifix is something that people often pray to. That is wrong. We pray only to God not an image made by hands of man. If a statue of Jesus on the cross merely reminds one of what He did, then I have no problem with it. When it takes on more significance than that and becomes an object of worship, then I do have a problem with it.

Anti-Judiasm and the Council of Nicea
By Rick Aharon Chaimberlin
"The Council of Nicea was convened in 325 CE (AD) by Constantine, Emperor of the Roman Empire. Constantine, a worshipper of the 'sun-god,' technically 'converted' to Christianity. His reign marked the alliance of church and state.  Christians were no longer persecuted by the pagans. Instead, Christians persecuted others (including other Christians) with a zeal and a vengeance that would shock the pagans. More Christians were killed (by other Christians!) in the first century after the Council of Nicea than had been killed by pagans in the century before Nicea.

Constantine, only one year after convening the Council of Nicea, had his own son (Crispus) put to death. Later he suffocated Fausta (his wife) in an overheated bath. Then he had his sister's son flogged to death and her husband strangled. (1) It was also during the reign of Constantine that the cross became a sacred symbol in Christianity, just as it had been in pagan religions.(2) Throughout his reign, Constantine treated the bishops as political aides. He agreed to enforce whatever opinion the majority of the bishops formulated. ..."   Click here for the rest.

The Old Testament consistently rebuked the worship of the moon-god, the sun-god and  (e.g. Dt.4:19; 17:3; 2 Ki.21:3,5; 23:5; Jer.8:2; 19:13; Zeph.1:5).  Jer. 8:1-3 says the bones of those who did worship them should be removed from their graves and...

Jer 8:2 And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.

Consider Jezebel.  It is a grievous thing to lightly esteem the word of God.  The Lord Jesus Christ/Yeshua said, Joh 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

I don't see how those verses prove that the Statue of Liberty & the cruxification are Satanist.

Long after Christ publicly uttered the words "it is finished" from the cross I suppose Paul was wrong to "proclaim Christ crucified" (I Cor 1) and "know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified" (I Cor 2)?
If you are going to have a human "Lamb of God" that takes away the sin of the world,
then it would be very good to remember that that human 'Lamb' DIED,
just as those sacrifical ones had on countless Passovers past!
John 16:33
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Patricia Blom said, "It's ourrageous. This will offend people in this multirelgious area."

Ms. Blom, who cares if it offends extreme bigots? Too bad if they hate the cross so much that they are offended every time they see one. People so full of bigotry must have a horrible time surviving in this country.
