JUSTICE COVERS 'NUDE' STATUES
DRUDGE ^

Fed up with having his picture taken during events in the Justice Department's Great Hall in front of semi-nude statues, Attorney General John Ashcroft has reportedly ordered massive draperies to conceal the offending figures -- which have been displayed since the 1930s!
The draperies were installed last week at a cost of just over $8,000, reports ABCNEWS.com's Beverley Lumpkin.
At the center of the controversy: two enormous and stylized but largely naked aluminum statues.
The female figure represents the Spirit of Justice; the male on the right is the Majesty of Justice. The male is clad in only a cloth draped over his essential parts; the female wears a sort of toga-style garment, but one breast is entirely exposed.
Last November, during a press conference announcing new challenges of fighting terrorism, Ashcroft was photographed with the naked breast right over his shoulder!
The snap ran in major papers.

Unfortunately, every action in Washington is viewed as political.
True......inside the Beltway. In the rest of real America, he will be applauded for the strength of his convictions. Republicans and/or conservatives are never going to win DC, No. VA, or MD anyway. So who cares?

They're real aluminum.

Helps to put it in perspective, doesn't it? If We The People don't strangle the flow of money to D.C., those parasites will spend it all and keep whining for more.
Dig it. Excellent post, Hank.

If leading people, in your mind, means desecrating great artworks done by masters, then the left's description of us as American Taliban is correctHe did not desecrate anything! Just covered the dang thing up during photo ops where jerks were purposely shooting boob angles with him as the butt of the joke. He got fed up with it. Funny, this boob shoot has never been done before. Does that tell you anything!

I agree completely! Something else that comes to mind about this is when the taliban blew up the statues. Seems a lot like the same kind of deal to me.

Funny, this boob shoot has never been done before. Does that tell you anything The liberal press did the same thing to Ed Meese. I bet you there are photos of Reno copping a feel of the female statue, but the press would never release that.

Let us all pause for a moment, in thankful prayer, that Dane is not able to significantly alter anything in Washington or elsewhere to his desired state.Especially Hugh Hefner's garden. I doubt that old Hugh would want this statue in his garden where he probably has the real thing.

Ashcroft is so pathetic. At least the most funny character of the Republican party (Falwell) wasn't a member of the Administration. Now, Jerry has to hand his doofus crown to JA. (boob = bad)
Is it too much to ask for normal people to occupy high office?!
The challenge for Conan O'Brien, Lettermann & Leno will be how to improve upon the real news facts.
We had a puritan like that in WA state (Ellen Craswell). To this day, I really, honestly believe that she talked to God. She said she did and I don't doubt her. She had this look about her. So, the Republican party of this state gave her the keys to the bus and put her at the top of the ticket (Govenor). She got her clock cleaned by a loser tax-and-spend Democrat (Gary Locke). And get this, after all was done, her and her wack-job husband blamed the non-christian Republicans for not enough support and causing her to lose the election. Ha! how much more support could we have given her?! I voted for her as a loyal Republican and so did a lot of others. But, I think her demeanor did her in. I'm quite sure that many people thought that this lady was going to "change their life significantly" if elected. Sorry, there wasn't a spot on the ballot for Patron Saint. Needless to say, she drove the bus off a cliff and we took another pounding in this state.
Fools! Ashcrost reminds me of her.

He did not desecrate anything! Just covered the dang thing up during photo ops where jerks were purposely shooting boob angles with him as the butt of the joke.Covering art up is not the best response. Also, it was politically tone-deaf in the extreme. His best response would have been to make a backdrop for his podium, 'to help the photographers get their lighting correct'. Restrict where photographers may stand. Then the angle could never have been made, and he would not now be the butt of jokes for the next 3 to 7 years.
Funny, this boob shoot has never been done before. Does that tell you anything!
I would never tell you that the news media is made up of anything but die-hard liberals.

Seems to me Hilter was pretty keen on introducting all kinds of "heroic Nazi" art for the masses for propaganda value. If Ashcroft replaces the statues with a "neo-conservative" style of art (whatever that would be), then I might agree with you. I think he just doesn't like "art-deco" statues. Big deal!
