New Zealander builds Hobbit hole A New Zealand man has built a Hobbit house. Carl Gifford, a stonemason from Wellington, says he used a 10-tonne digger to make the hole. He's put rocks either side of the front door and plans to install a chimney and lantern on top. He told the Evening Post he was embarrassed as he was constructing the home. He said: "I must admit I was hiding as the cars were driving past. I thought, 'These people think I'm an idiot'." The house is part of a series of stonework mounds, designs and sculptures dotted around his land. "I'm just having a bit of fun. Things that were built by those ancient people like caves have always fascinated me." |

We are not going away, only adapting! Is the Green Dragon safe?
To: Overtaxed
Define "safe" - No I don't think it would be safe from trolls if we didn't move it to the GI side. As all the non-political discussions move slowly over to the GI side, we will begin to stand out like a sore thumb if we don't move it, and over the months to come, more trolls will feel they have license to bash us for continuing it on the News side. And that would only be true if the thread was not eventually deleted. Have you seen the flame wars happening already because people don't think the War on Drugs belongs in news? Tolkien book discussion doesn't have a chance here, and I would rather move to the side that will not only play nicer, but has topic guidelines that explicitly condone it.
I have not given up completely on the idea that the whole thread can be moved. Don't worry, I am very concerned about moving it the right way... and if it can't be re-designated, with ecrubh's help we will cut paste and move the important discussion that has already been had over there before we resume.

By "safe" I meant are we in danger of losing it completely. (I don't lose sleep over trolls!) Moving it is okay as long as I know where it is.

Are you guys around? - I am ready to post a new thread over in the GI side.... If I post it, will you come?
To: HairOfTheDog
If you post it, they will come. and I don't even like Kevin Costner.
To: Overtaxed
Especially now that they can see a ping from the other side... if this new toy is working the way I think it is.
To: HairOfTheDog
I'm ready - unless you already posted it over there and I don't see it on my pinger! Let's see what we can do, eh?

As you know - conversation in the egroup chat room quickly turned to the question of NAME...
There is a new poll in the egroup to vote on the name of the thing. So lets think and vote on the idea tonight and post it tommorrow.
There is also a blueprint for what the post will look like (Word doc) in our files section. Comments still welcome now that we are waiting!

It makes me happy to drop in on this thread so will continue (if you don't mind) wherever you move it, if I can find it. After all, this is the thread that caused me to register with FR.
When trolls or orcs drop in, it's OK, doesn't that just give everyone a chance to take a swing with their trusty axe? ;-)
To: Sam Cree
Well, just to be good FReepers and polite hobbits, we will start a new one over there and I will certainly ping you to it! Probably tomorrow. I actually like the idea of the new freer forum in addition to news, and it isn't even done yet. I have faith in JR to have it cleaned up in no time.
As for trolls, some trolls are fun to swing at, some bring me no pleasure at all. And in defense of the general population of FR, there really haven't been that many bad ones.

I think we should move

I am ready
When you sleepy heads wake up

I am here
But who gets the last post on this thread?
Please do it fast before I have class so I can post!
I do not think this is my style...

This is truly the thread that will not die!
Die thread! Die! Die!
Never mind me. I'm just trolling around...
To: Yakboy
Well, we're moving later today to the new forum, where people who disapprove of Hobbits need not ever come. But die? Never. We're taking bets on how long it takes to reach 4000 posts again.

Would you like to lock this one up now? Don't delete it certainly, but lock it up so it doesn't keep going and going?
To: JenB
Just joking! ; )
Hobbits never say die.

,,, well, for the record I'm glad to see a thread with the words "New Zealand" has gone such a distance.
To: JenB
Second posting of this ... I liked it ...
Well, you know what they say...
Three Threads for Ladies' Guilds and their pies,
Seven for the religious threads, casting stones
Nine Threads for cheesy topics that won't die
One for the Hobbits, chatting alone
One Thread to ping us all, One Thread to occupy us,
One thread to enlighten us all and clutter up the real news page.
Or something like that, anyway!
