New Zealander builds Hobbit hole A New Zealand man has built a Hobbit house. Carl Gifford, a stonemason from Wellington, says he used a 10-tonne digger to make the hole. He's put rocks either side of the front door and plans to install a chimney and lantern on top. He told the Evening Post he was embarrassed as he was constructing the home. He said: "I must admit I was hiding as the cars were driving past. I thought, 'These people think I'm an idiot'." The house is part of a series of stonework mounds, designs and sculptures dotted around his land. "I'm just having a bit of fun. Things that were built by those ancient people like caves have always fascinated me." |

Whew! That was traumatic trying to find a unique user ID. Now if only I can keep all my passwords straight. I definitely have cyber multiple personality syndrome.
And now with the split FR forum, I am in need of a clone or two.

Complicated isn't it? Figured out the new forum yet? And we are asking you do do yet another new thing... FReepmail me your ID so I can look for it... there are a couple new ones already approved. If you aren't there I can invite you by email.

Figured out the new forum yet? It's not really difficult, but I've come to depend on FR's potpourri nature. When I click on Latest Posts and see the wide range of topics explored here, it really warms my heart.
It reminds me of a an old-fashioned marketplace, like a bazaar, all those stalls to investigate, taste, smell. Very enlivening.
Now, it seems we're going for the strip-mall feel with specialized stores.
I'm usually quick to adapt to new situations. But I like my old reliables to be old reliables. Give me a day or two and what's new will be old hat soon enough.
Sometimes, strip malls are convenient when you just want one store.

If anyone is interested in joining the Free Republic Hobbit Hole egroup, please send me a freepmail and I will send you the directions. It's a great group where we chat, exchange movie stills, take polls and discuss our favorite author.

Good morning!
Something that struck home for me last night during my reading:
Theoden, although invigorated with Gandalf's encouragement, still must deal with years of being told my Wormtongue that he's an old man. He can't ride to Isengard, because he needs his sleep. So they wait for him to rest. Then, even after they are set out for Isengard, they ultimately must stop and camp, because the king was tired.
Last night was the first time I realized that the guy was really old!

Good Morning! - I think John should post the new hobbit hole too so he keeps getting all those questions!
To: John Farson
I have been ignoring this thread since the beginning, and now it has over 4,000 replies!
I am not going to read all 4,000, but I did want to be part of this record breaking (is it?) Thread.
And in case no one else has said it, "all your hobbit cheese belongs to us.
I am leaving now.
To: CIB-173RDABN
You are the first person to mention cheese! - Unless in the context of having some along with our seedcakes and pints!
To: HairOfTheDog
Cheese! I just love cheese. Really I do.

As any good hobbit would!

Just five more posts now!
To: Overtaxed
Five? - I think it is four!
To: HairOfTheDog
Shall we continue this nonsense in a shallow attempt to reach 4100? :)
