New Zealander builds Hobbit hole

New Zealander builds Hobbit hole

A New Zealand man has built a Hobbit house.

Carl Gifford, a stonemason from Wellington, says he used a 10-tonne digger to make the hole.

He's put rocks either side of the front door and plans to install a chimney and lantern on top.

He told the Evening Post he was embarrassed as he was constructing the home.

He said: "I must admit I was hiding as the cars were driving past. I thought, 'These people think I'm an idiot'."

The house is part of a series of stonework mounds, designs and sculptures dotted around his land.

"I'm just having a bit of fun. Things that were built by those ancient people like caves have always fascinated me."

And, Overtaxed, I think that just means I need to keep seeing the movie over and over again until I can erase those comments from my mind. ;)

Now you know why I couldn't tell you who was at the SAG and with whom/what. I didn't look. If I didn't see it, I wouldn't have to erase it! :))

Speaking of orcs and trolls and to get back to topic.

What did you all think of the rendition of orcs. I discussed this with someone who saw the movie the same time I did and found neither one of us had a clear picture of orcs prior to the movie. I now find I can accept the orcs as pictured. My nearest description was to compare them tho Dr. Seuss' Grinch before the picture. What didn't fit with my imagination was the Urak Hai that Saruman bred. I never pictured them so muscular. To me they were always bigger, beefier orcs. Maybe like weight lifteres, or Hoss Cartwright to a regular human shape, but they almost looked good if you took off the gray body paint and sent them to an orthodontist.

Hair, any word yet? Keep us all informed as I'm starting to get that guilty feeling. I'm starting to get annoyed with the new forum setup - every time I switch, and then come back, my self-search list has been reset so I can't see what posts I haven't visited yet.

I have noticed that, but I have also noticed that your history will come back if you come in fresh again. Haven't figured out which combination of events makes it happen.

No word, and I am still trying on other threads to get some notice. I thought it was a good question.

I would love to cooperate and move over there. Perhaps when the trolls start getting abusive we can get the moderator to come and help.

I do know that I am NOT planning to post anything new in the Green Dragon the way things are.

I agree with the you on the way the regular orcs/goblins looked...but the Uruk Hai...hmmm, I never had a real clear picture of what they looked like in my head prior to the movie. PJ really had no trouble convincing me that that Lurtz guy was a uruk-hai!

I think it is a good point that he looked more human (more elf?) than the other orcs in the film. And it has been brought up before, that the film Lurtz does have a very animal sexuality to him, unlike the other orcs. I guess if the history is that the orcs were once elves, he looks more like an orc should look than the others that look more monster like.

Good evening! Your point is well made - Uruk-Hai probably do look more like - how should I phrase it - like thinking creatures as opposed to animals. Savage brutes, but clearly intelligent brutes. I was quite willing to accept PJ's version. They were taller than I had expected, though...

Anyone want to chat? Also, is there any news on the moving the thread front?
