Rumsfeld just told Russert it will take 6-8 years to get our military back to the level it once was in.

Just in time for the Rats to ruin it again. Assuming, of course, that the Rat party is still viable.

Rumsfeld basically said between the lines, the military does a great job at whatever it is asked to do, but too many demands and too little support will stress the abilities of any one. This is what we inherited. He basically acknowledged the problems when he said it will take six to eight years to bring it up to where it needs to be.

IOW yeah, Clinton abused the military, but they soldier on as they always have.

Thread 20? Is that a joke?

Was a time I got up every Sunday and watched as much talk show stuff as I could. Got real excited about it. Local talk, then Meet the Press, then Brinkley, with Face the Nation during commercial breaks - - but I haven't watched one of these shows in two years at least. Gueass I'm jaded from all the Free Republic and Drudge and Rush and Fox News, etc. I wonder if their audience has really, REALLY suffered over the past few years?

Let me know if anything interesting happens. While most of those folks on the shows are shoveling poop, I'll be shoveling snow.

Mr. Rumsfeld rocks!!! Tim Russert teased him about being a 'stud'. Mr. Rumsfeld said his wife Joyce thinks that this is a phase that will pass. I certainly hope for our country's sake, that this phase lasts 7 more years. According to Mr. Rumsfeld, it will take that long to fix the damage that Clinton did to our military.

Heard some interesting comments from Rumsfeld last week. He mentioned that the Bosnia mission was to last one year......and then he went on to say that we MUST draw down our presence in areas that can be monitored by others. He made it clear that these open ended missions harm our readiness.

I think the reason Rumsfeld has become such a "star" is he speaks in english. Simple sentences that anyone can understand, even when he waffles you can tell he is, you don't need to read between the lines or read tea leaves.

Russert was chiding Rumsfeld about being a stud and asked what his wife thought of her 69 year old husband. Rumsfeld replied, "C'mon Russert, ask me something serious!" I loved it. Rummy is so sharp and he doesn't take anything off of anybody.
