FReeper names explained
My curiousity | Now | Yours truly

Posted on 01/18/2002 5:03:35 PM PST by Come get it

Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.

I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

LOL! You had me going for awhile! Walter Mitty -- LOL! I love the Five Times All Big Eight!

My name is simple -- my son was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity at OU and now the President BTW. When I was getting ready to choose a name, he suggested it as I have been like a Mom to a lot of his fraternity brothers -- food is probably the key word! Since they are called PhiKaps, he just added PhiKapMom and there you have it. Sure better than being called Sooner Skulls Mom which is their other nickname!

I am still sitting here chuckling!

No hard feelings, and I didn't believe it myself. The range was a guess, but 10 people (all seasoned shooters) verified that it had to be at a minimum 200 yards. Most said it was closer to 300. Some said it wasn't that far, others said it was further. It looked like a dot to me, but looking through a scope I saw what it was. 6 people verified the hits. Believe it or not, it doesn't matter to me. I have 6 witnesses. I don't think I could hit it that many times out of 7 again, but I could hit it again I'm sure.

I have never joined a competition because I didn't think I was good enough, but the other guys I was with said that I would do very well, as they had been in competition and knew what the level was. I like to practice long range shooting with my 1911, and I was shooting on the same range as the guys with the scoped rifles. I also shot at the verified 75 yard range and was able to hit a small propane bottle several times.

I think I'm going to try to compete now that I've been told about the level of competition.

I'd known my older sister was an Oprah fan, but suddenly she got very quiet, lowered her eyes, looked up meekly, and in the most lowly, reverant, worshipful tone of voice said: "I think she should run for president...."

This is the scariest post that I've encountered in quite a while.

<p.I'm sorry, I know that she is your sister. Remember what happened when Ol Yeller started foaming at the mouth and becoming aggresive? There is a correlation. If something is not done, other people will be infeceted.<p.You know what must be done. I'm sorry.

You might be interested in Silhouette pistol matches that shoot at 40, 60, 77 and 100 yards at the offhand position. A Thompson Contender is usually used. There's Rimfire and Centerfire divisions. You might find a NRA Bullseye match somewhere. Call the NRA and they have a list of sanctioned matches. I subscribe to a NRA magazine called Shooting Sports USA. They have all the matches listed in the back.

I always loved the Selmon Brothers and loved the story of the OU recruiter when he recruited the first Selmon Brother! Boy did OU luck out!

After we moved up here, my son was playing baseball for Norman High and I was named the baseball rep to NAA for the new high school. The first meeting I was sitting next to the rep for NHS girl's basketball not paying much attention. Then I heard someone call him Dewey and found out I was sitting next to Dewey Selmon, one of the famous Selmon brothers. What a really nice, down to earth person. It never dawned on me when my son talked about being in class with some girl named Selmon that it was the daughter of one of the Selmon Brothers. I can remember watching them on TV play football! They were IMPRESSIVE!

Quaint, yes. I am also tardy-gaited, and a strumpet.

Better than all that stuff about bugs and diseases!

E Clampus Vitus is both a historical and fraternal organization.

Makes for interesting reading as well. There's quite a few web pages out there devoted to ECV - fascinating and illuminating bunch.
