Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

I was the Director of Air Force Revolutionary Planning. Just the name of the organization frightened a lot of people in the A.F. and DoD. Or maybe, I frightened them! Now, I just change the world, one idea at a time.

"What's with the "Sam Roberts?" " Dunno. Must be that we answered many of the questions the same.
You do know that there were no pirates in "Hamlet"? =;^D

My name is Wednesday's Child.
In the children's nursery rhyme, Wednesday's Child is full of woe.
Living in New York, with Chuckie and the Beast as my senators, I thought the name just seemed to fit.

The family story is that I was conceived as my father was going off to his third war, and didn't expect to return. (He did.) The "9" refer to myself and my eight friends who have formed something of a gang since high school. We are actually six, since three have passed away since, but they remain with us in memory. The Kid.

Did your dad know Mr. Bradley? Another Iwo Jima medic who raised the flag. He soon will be replaced by a member of an oppressed group on all of the memorials.

Thanks for the ping.
I had youth church choir director named Leon who I called "Noel" (his name backwards, get it?). He in turn started calling me "Ecurb" (my name backwards). When I got my first email address several years ago, "ecurb" was already taken, so I added my last initial.

Cool site! My name came up as Dread Pirate Kidd. Interesting that it comes up with a reference to one of my all-time favorite movies.

Buffy's saved the world 5 times, lost her mom, pays bills and raises her 15 year old sister. It doesn't get better than that. Sarah Gellar also defended gun rights at the time of Columbine.Hmmm... let's see... There are so many things Xena has done... these are just a few:
--Killed all the greek gods making way for the one true God.
--Gave birth to 'the messenger of Eli' (a direct reference to Christianity) who was immaculately conceived.
--Saved the world countless times from evil- including taking on the Romans and defeating the entire Persian army by herself.
--Cast Lucifer into Hell.
--Saved Ulysses and helped him restring his bow (although he never knew it).
--Through various actions and philosophies, there is no doubt in my mind that Xena is a Republican- quite possibly a libertarian.
--Plus, Lucy Lawless has stated publically that she does not believe in the 'glass ceiling' for women, she rebukes the idea of being a role model, told all her hardcore Xena fans to 'cut the cord!' when they were pissed over the show's finale, puts her family above all else- including her career, AND she is a die-hard Red Wings and Michigan State fan. Can't get much better than that.

Thanks.... I knew there had to be an explanation! Funny thing is... some friends and I did the same thing when we were young, as a secret club... I hated my name, Anaid. Sounded like a medicinal ointment to me.

Nope. Just A CSM
To: jjbrouwer
Being a Scott, you probably wouldn't.
To: Little Bill
There is just one 't' in 'Scot'. However, I am English.

My pirate name is: Mad Charity Rackham. Wow! I'm Mad Davey Rackham (That's RACKEM; not Rackham).
I've got to ask Dad about those business trips someday.

He soon will be replaced by a member of an oppressed group on all of the memorials.I'm reasonably sure he never met John Bradley - they weren't separated in civilian life by all that many miles, but Dad never mentioned his name that I can recall (although he may have and I was just too young to have understood the significance).
I sure hope they don't make the image of John Bradley a woman on the IJM. He was kind of cute when he was a young sailor, but I don't think he would look so good with makeup on. Call me closed-minded.

Well better this than what folks
usually call me...
Have you heard about the chick whose breasts were growing out of her back?
She was pretty funny-looking, but she was great to dance with!
Q: What has 99 legs & 49 teeth?
A: The front row at a Willie Nelson concert.
And why aren't fags allowed to work at the... Never mind...

Mine comes from an old line, " And when I die, bury me facedown so the entire world can kiss my a$$."
