Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

Won't name no names ,contrary to what one person here thinks,I've borrowed mine from Frank Zappa too.Wanted Zomby Woof, but couldn't get it to work along with several others I thought up.Glad to see there's several other Zappa fans here.

Like somebody else here I lost my first screen name 'YAFer since 1962', when my computer crashed, and I forgot my password (didn't realize that JimRob would let me get it back). My current name causes a lot of fuss with some folks, and is a long story, so I just say 'see my FR Home Page', when somebody questions it.
My pirate name is Mad Sam Flint, somehow I am not surprised (and I guess there are a lot of folks who won't be either).

Looking out my front window I can see the Adirondack Mountains in the distance. But out my back windows I can see the Green Mountains in Vermont. Since I live in NY I opted for Adirondack.

I got the Raven's defense on my fantasy team this weekend. Of the eight teams remaining, that was the good pick. No offensive players on either team though.

It's going to be close. Stewart has got good hands and feet. And Elvis is still "struggling."
Whatever the hell that means.
I've got confidence but I'll breath easier after Sunday.

I completely lack imagination and creativity. My very first message board name was diannacar. When Princess Di crashed, I got a ton of hate mail.

The problem with choosing a witty or distinctive name is that that name, if it means something interesting, by that very fact excludes everything else that might be interesting about yourself. You become your name, at least until you build a reputation. I always try to choose names that mean absolutely nothing, and that will evoke no image whatsoever in the mind of the reader. This way I start with a clean slate. I'm not sure if "GrayBox" conveys the desired nothingness, though.
