Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

Xena would kick her ass up and down main street and then give the leftovers to her sidekick, GabrielleUmmm, are we a talking about an adult cartoon here?

Every pirate lives for something different. For some, it's the open sea. For others (the masochists), it's the food. For you, it's definitely the fighting. Even through many pirates have a reputation for not being the brightest souls on earth, you defy the sterotypes. You've got taste and education. Arr!
Eerily accurate. Using the steak knife, I fought off this foolish pirate wannabe. A fine steak-eater, armed with the requisite serrated silverware, would hardly surrender his own sister to a badly-costumed plastic swordsman!

I originally registered as 'Wyatt1959' (high school nickname plus year of graduation) but after my previous computer died (and I couldn't remember my FR password) I changed to
FairWitness which is a better fit to my personality. I mostly sit quietly in the corner of the room, making occasional comments in a low voice that nobody hears (in a family with five siblings, 20 sets of aunts and uncles and 90 first cousins, I was the one 'designated listener') but I really enjoy listening to everyone else.

Black Bart was a stage coach robber in California in the nineteenth century who left poems at the scene of his crimes. I don't live in California and I hate poetry but I thought the story of Black Bart was interesting. As to the .223, that's the caliber of one of my favorite rifles, the Ruger Mini 14.

HAHAHAHAHA! Not that I know of. But I'm sure there's a faction of Xena and Buffy fans that know of cartoons like it. Not me!

+400... oh well, better late than never...
Mine is meant to remind us of our esteemed former Surgeon General under the bent one. Dr. Joycelyn Elders gave a rousing speech, in which she told us ...
"WWeeeee cun mayyyke Sssssssssaayyfurrr Gunsssssss...and Sayyyyfer Bulletssssss......"
I really missed her after that.

Trust me on this: FReepers between 30 and 45 would be glad to call you Dy-no-mite.
As long as they call me.

Well, I like political science. And I'm shy.

And it doesn't hurt to be a Heinlein fan either.
Was the cloak on when you typed your last?

I'm still Jules to friends in London, but most Americans know me as JJ.
Well, whatever you go by
that's just all right
but that don't make you
Kid Dyn-O-Mite!

. . . before I read this thread I tought you were a guy!
This is TOO funny! Out of girlish curiosity, what made you think that? (I'm not at all offended, believe me.)

Yes, my cloak was firmly in place (but I'm hanging it up now and going to bed).

I think those can be found on those alt.fan.fiction sites.

If that's true, it is pretty sad and a bad reflection on the forum.
On the privacy issue, I always gave my email address out on Lucianne's site and the vast majority of the many people who mailed me were friendly.
Nasty people don't email you because they don't want you to have their email address. One or two did use the anonymizer software to send hatemail though. Which was pretty funny.
I think you are more in danger from Americans, if you are a Liberal or a Republican American.
If you are a Brit, you are fairly safe. Because the fact is most Brits cannot tell the difference between the two parties. The Liberal party is further right wing than our Conservative party so whomever we support, we are labelled lefties. Mainly because of the gun thing.

C'mon, explain your handle... Out with it.
chookter:
phonetic spelling of 'teuchter'. A mildly derogatory nickname for Scots Highlanders used in the lowlands of Scotland--Kind of like 'Redneck' over here.
It's a nickname I picked up in Glasgow because I'm big and blonde and of celto-nordic descent. A lot of the highlanders are actually of scandinavian stock and look different than the smaller lowland Scots.
Hence:
"Aye, yer a bluidy teuchter, ye are!"
I'm listening to 'Floodland' right now and drinking a dram of Oban Scotch....
