WTC Flag Raising Petition Breaks 10,000 signatures in two days!
Petitiononline Flag Raising Petition ^ | January 17, 2001 | Jeff Head

Posted on 01/17/2002 7:36:44 AM PST by Jeff Head

The petition to bring pressure on the Government of the City of New York and on the Management of the New York Fire Department to insure that a memorial statue of the Firefighters raising Old Glory above the rubble of the WTC on September 11th, 2001 depicts actual events has surpassed 10,000 signatures within two days of its introduction.

A model of the initial statue was unveiled earlier at New York City Fire Department headquarters. It revealed that the actual fire fighters who had raised the flag would not be depicted, but would be replaced with an culturally diverse, politically correct grouping of a white, a black and an hispanic firefighter who were molded from models representing "pristine" individuals. In fact three caucasion, grimey, tired firefighters raised the flag on that fateful day.

This attempt to revise history to a political and ethnic/cultural agenda has angered tens and hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of Americans who saw themselves what transpired that fateful day.

I wrote the petition on Tuesday, January 15th before noon here in Idaho and posted it to the internet. I wrote it out of indignation and disgust over what I was hearing regarding the proposed statue. Those firefighters did not have race or ethnicity on their mind when they raised that flag ... and THANK GOD they did not. They had patriotism, their duty to help the victims and their pride in a nation which UNITES cullturally fiverse peoples into Americans on their mind. They are the ones who did it, and they are the ones who must be accurately depicted and honored. Anything less is divisive and iniceteful at a time when unification and strength are continuing to grow out of the events of 9/11.

Please continue to email this petiton to all you know. We are making progress in applying pressure, but we dare not let up. Here is the link:

DEPICT TE WTC FLAG RAISING AS IT ACTUALLY OCCURRED!

Many, many local fire departments are pciking up on and supporting this effort all over the country. Thousands of individuals have been notified by email chains, phone calls and word or mouth and have signed. Fox News has reported on it. SierraTimes, Newsmax, KeepandBearArms and The New York Daily Times have all carried it.

... and of course FREEREPUBLIC, where news of the petition was first published and where many "FReeper" activists have been busy emailing friends, relatives, neighbors, other discussion baords, Fire Departments, EMS teams, etc. regarding the same.

We need more. We cannot let up. We can win this battle. It is patently obvious what is right. We cannot afford to so blatantly fall into the revisionist tactics that have heralded the downfall of other nations and cultures ... we cannot allow it.

Firefighters Win Battle Over Ground Zero Statue

In a press release issued late Thursday, New York City Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scopetta announced that the New York City Fire Department will drop plans for a politically correct version of the famous photo "Flag Raising at Ground Zero."

"New York City Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scopetta today announced that he will consider new options for a fitting memorial to honor the members of the fire department who died and those who worked tirelessly at the World Trade Center following the Sept. 11 attacks," the release said.

"Bruce Ratner, president and CEO of Forrest City Ratner & Co., said he will continue to underwrite the cost of the memorial."

Well, it is a victory for historical accuracy and the truth, but sounds like they will discard the flag raising al together now and find something else that will let them get their message across.

Fine, I still hope that the flag raising is depicted at Ground Zero proper where it would be seen by the most people anyway.

The press release makes it sound like they are going to do just that and try and drop the flag raising altogether.

Let's wait and see, and in the mean time, keep up the pressure and grow this thing as far as it will go.

Then, if they do ... we can always start another or push for it at ground zero proper where it would do the most good anyway. This was to be in the Fire Department HQ building.

Yep ... we're closing in on 12K signatures today alone and still going.

We need to keep the pressure on though. Thanks for all your help!

Keep this petition going and let it grow as big as possible.

Then, wait and see what the FDNY comes out with as it's "new" options and immediately start a drive (petition, fund raising maybe through Firefighters unions, etc) to get the Flag Raising statue up at ground Zero somewhere..

If NYC wants memorials to black and hispanic firemen, why can't they do depictions of them going into the burning towers? That meant infinitely more than this "flag raising" did. The flag raising didn't save, or risk, a single life.

I think that the "PC Mavens" should put up "Their BEST SHOT!!" They should design & Manufacture the VERY BEST 9/11 Memorial Statue (PC, of Course) that ANYONE could create!!

The "PC Mavens" statue should be displayed near a "Historically Correct" statue of the EVENT.

Let the "Public's" response to the rival "memorials" guide the placement of the "Memorial Statue!!"

I Bet (as usual), the "PC-Types" will be UTTERLY DETACHED from current REALITY!
