Computer simulation aims to raise questions about huge stockpiles of nuclear warheads.
A new computer program developed for nuclear weapons researchers in the U.S. probably won't give Canadians much of a sense of security in these days of global tension and uncertainty. The software simulated the destruction of Canada with as few as 11 nuclear warheads.

Most countries as a viable economic and stable government would be toast after a nuclear strike of that magnitude. I was commenting on the viability of the landmass to harbor life in the aftermath. 11 nukes would not have a huge effect on Canada in that regard.

Actually, Canada would be in a comparatively good position after an attack. With the cities and their populations gone, it would have a small, widely-dispersed rural population that would be fairly well equipped to survive as agriculturalists and hunter-gatherers. The US, on the other hand, would likely wind up with far too many survivors of the initial attack, and the ensuing disease, famine, organized crime, etc, would be comparatively worse.

I concur completely!

Soe, yous think we be in debt by accident? As President-for-Life Reagan said..."What are they going to do...evict us?!!" We know you've got money...but you know...maybe we also know that you like someone close by to sell stuff to. You
DO have more mooses...not to mention bears and millions of other cool stuffs, which we hope you're all protecting, and feeding enough Wisconsin cheese to...so we had better yet get along, and stop all this
scare the Canadites, and pi$$ 'em off real good just by typing, snowball fight over the stream crap...which...I was not really much of a part of. Of.
You see, I believe in Sgt. Preston...and would NEVER abandon "King," for any reason. Why do you think we have nukes...and blow off fireworks and even some of our own fingers every July 4th...it's the "cheese"...feed them the cheese...and nobody gets hurt.
Fondest Muttly regards to the denizens of the always quite nice and beautiful land of the frozen cheesemoose, et. al.
P.S.: and no matter what some of our friends here may say...we really like your coo-coo clocks!

Key Events & Causes: War of 1812 Treaty of Ghent, December 24, 1814 Ghent, Belgium: British and American diplomats agreed on status quo ante bellum.
Battle of New Orleans, January 1815, New Orleans: Jackson's forces defeated British. 700 British killed, 1400 wounded. U.S. losses: 8 killed, 13 wounded.
I believe that last attempt helped them change their minds.

Our overseas trade was destroyed, and our national capitol torched. We make much of the frigate actions, because they are the only bright spot on an otherwise pathetic naval situation. We did NOT accomplish any of our national objectives from when we declared war--we did not grab a good chunk of Canada as we had planned, and indeed the war ended with a return to the status quo ante that we went to war to overturn in the first place!

you may be right, but I can travel anywhere in the world with a maple leaf button in my lapel and not have to worry about getting my nuts shot off.

That's because nobody knows what it is. I notice you say "shot off" not "froze off."

"There is no way 11 warheads could take out 25% of the Canadian population." If you're looking for straight kills, maybe even less than eleven...just the greater Toronto area alone has nearly 20% of the Canadian population.
Totally off-topic question: Why take some of the richest farmland on the planet and put your biggest city there? Gotta love our crack planning departments up here...or is that planning departments on crack?

While these numbers are staggering, most deaths would occur in highly localized areas. I agree with RadioAstronomers assertion that after a brief period of time survivors would be able to move about in less urbanized areas without much chance of further gross exposure. Many people would survive, although most likely not as anything even remotely resembling a political power So basically, after a Nuke war, the "Blue Zone" would be wiped out and there would cease to be a federal government? And this is a BAD thing????

I'm not sure were the American politicians intend on hunkering down, but I know where the Canadian ones do. It'll be interesting, if the day ever comes, when they come crawling out of their air-conditioned, sanitized, rations for all, courtesy of the Canadian people hole in the ground and are met by those representing the remains of the Canadian population. All properly armed and totally pissed off.
