The CIA tried to recruit me while I was in the military, but there is still a difference between the military and the CIA. And I am happy to keep it that way.

TORA BORA (Institute of Islamic Research and Studies): The Mujahideen ambushed and wiped out a unit of US Navy Seal Special Forces troops. The troops were attempting to reach a position where they believed Mujahideen to be since firing had been observed from that direction. AS the troops approached closer, the Mujahideen outflanked them and ambushed them from their sides, blocking off their escape routes. They attempted to run but were cut down to the last man by Mujahideen fire. Their identification as Navy Seals was obtained from the identity cards found on their bodies.
A Russian unit launched an ambush on Commander Radwan's unit in the district of Vedeno. However their attack backfired on them as the soldiers of Allah confronted them and fought back with immense courage. They were able to leave the scene of the ambush; having killed two Russians and injuring one other. One of the mujahids was injured during the course of the attack - we ask Allah to reward him and grant him ash-shifa.
KABUL(Radio Report): Unidentified assailants reportedly fired upon a vehicle carrying US special forces in Jalalabad, apparently injuring one US soldier who sustained a wound to his leg. A spokesman from the US Central Command confirmed this report and added that no US soldiers had been killed. As a consequence of this attack, great tension seems to be developing between the ranks of the US Military for they know they may be attacked at any time. It is believed that small Mujahideen attack groups are operating around certain areas, ready to attack and destroy these forces of disbelief.
The Mujahideen were able to successfully counterattack an ambush planned by the head of the Russian police Baros Martan in the village of Kakhi in the state of Urus Martan. They were able to destroy his military jeep, killing him and all three who were with him at the time - and All Praise is due to Allah.

I can assure you that the troops NOT ON THE FRONT LINES are mourning the loss of a fellow Soldier. And you know what?? The troops on the front lines have the strength and ability to set his death aside and continue to do thier jobs. They will mourn him in due time, when their job is done. When they aren't busy getting the enemy.. they will mourn him.
See the difference is they are on the front lines we are not. We HONOR our soldiers and agenst lives here in the USA. It doesn't make us weaker...as you seem to think, but stronger...

Yep, it just gives them more time to attack us. I'm at least grateful that the media was wrong when they hyped the dangers and compared them to the thousands of lost Russian soldiers. Look for this and Dasc-hole's attack on Bush to lead every newscast this evening.
If you are not into a hard read, the Islamists are the enemy for the simple reason they fight their war 100% on the conviction they will be granted a better life after death if they do all they can to eliminate all other forms of religeous belief. If people get in the way and you can kill them, Inshalla.

Knowing what the enemy thinks and feels is essential to winning a war. "I don't give a damn" bravado does not. I don't mean to sound like I'm picking on you, but you need to understand that our behavior helps to determine how the enemy will act. National mourning over a single soldier makes us look like a bunch of pantywaists. While we shouldn't seek death for our soldiers, deaths happen in war. Those who put all of life on hold for a single man cannot win a war, or so it looks to their enemies. This one death cannot consume our national attention. We will lose this war if we cannot cope with combat deaths.
I think the issue you are addressing is a built-in media bias which is yet ANOTHER fight, separate from the War on
Terrorism. . .
Especially if it's a pal of the moderator or *someone special...*

While I heartily agree with - and live by the first rule of war: "know thine enemy"
WE WILL NOT CHANGE OUR BEHAVIOUR AS A NATION, AS A PEOPLE, AS A CULTURE TO FIT THE "SENSIBILITIES" OF SOME GOOFBALL WHO WANTS TO KILL US. THAT IS A FORM OF SURRENDER.

I agree with you. This obsession with someone getting injured or one death in a war is not a sign of strength on our part. Indeed, I've seen foreign press question our resolve, and say we were "lucky" this time to have ready-made foreign soldiers do our fighting. Indeed, Osama and his cohorts often talked about American's obsession with a few deaths, for example Somalia, and equated it with weakness and an implicit invitation to be attacked.
