IDF captures Palestinian Authority arms ship

JERUSALEM (January 4) – Combined navy and air force units on Thursday night captured a freighter in the Red Sea carrying some 50 tons of offensive weapons bound for the Palestinian Authority, Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Shaul Mofaz announced an hour ago.

The ship, the Karin A, a 4,000 ton freighter of unspecified registry, was boarded by naval commandos without firing a shot some 500 nautical miles from Israel in an operation code-named Noah’s Ark. The captured vessel is now en route to Eilat, Mofaz told reporters in Tel Aviv.

Among the many weapons on board, Mofaz listed long-range Katyusha rockets, LAW anti-tank missiles, Sagger anti-tank missiles, long-range mortars, mines, and much explosives.

The capture of the weapons undoubtedly prevented heavy loss of life in Israel, Mofaz said, adding that the shipment was in clear violation of agreements with the PA and demonstrates that PA Chairman Yasser Arafat is not committed to fight terrorism.

The weapons were packed in special floating waterproof containers designed to be dropped into the sea and picked up by smaller craft, Mofaz noted.

OC Navy Admiral Yedidya Ya’ari told the press that the distant operation in international Red Sea waters, which included both navy vessels and air force helicopters, "stretched the envelope of Israel’s deterrent capability a few inches forward."

You make a good point.... and never forget that those tens of thousands of PA "policemen" are a guerilla army in waiting, too.

Such seizures have of course occurred in the past. And the usual response is made by the Pal boys, i.e., propaganda by Israel, etc. Neither is Iran's involvement particularly surprising. Why should it be? Everyone knows they are the chief sponsors of the Hezbullah, a declared terrorist organization. Par for course for the Iranians.

As this was being reported, in the background on Fox, they were showing the meeting between Araflat and Zinni wherin Arafat was smiling in Zinni's face, speaking of Israeli provocations of the poor and downtrodden palestinians, and all the while he knew they were setting up for a MAJOR confrontation, no doubt timed to take place after a lesser atrocity they planned so that Israeli forces would repond and walk right into an ambush.
I'm sorry. I try very hard to keep hate out of my posts, but I now literally HATE these people and their complete demise cannot come quick enough for me anymore.
Iran should be on the recieving end of a stepped up attempt to appeal to the younger Iranians, and begin an all out propaganda assault against Iran's current government while backing loudly and publicly an Iranian government in exile.
As for Araflat. He should be hung, right in the town square in Ramallah...after a military tribunal, of course.

What has always bothered me about the Iranians is that their prestigious civilization was hijacked very early and conscripted in the cause of Pan Arabism. Notwithstanding a brief period of enlightenment under Islam (largely because the calips exploited the abilities and knowledge of the resident dhimmis Jewish, Christian, and Zoroastrian populations), the Iranian people have to discover their own historical pride apart from the neo-nazi ideology of Pan Arab Islam. Many of the young are doing so and Islam stripped of Pan Arabism can take on more the characteristic of Turkish Islam and secularization or even the shedding of Islam altogether.

You yourself should get your facts straight before flaming someone who actually seems to know something.

The majority of Iranians are Persians. Entirely different language, culture, character, and level of sophistication from the Arabs. They are Muslims, but of a different sect than most Arabs. In fact the schism between Shii and Sunni Muslims pre-dates the Protestant Reformation by about 700 years.

Politically, prior to the overthrow of the Shah in 1979, Iran and Israel were fairly close as they both saw Iraq and Syria (and the USSR) as vital threats. If the Iranian government directly supplied these weapons it represents a serious escalation in their involvement with the Palestinians. They mostly finance and support some of the Shiite guerrilla groups out of Lebanon, like Hamas and Hizbullah, and if they are involved it may also indicate how close the cooperation between the PLA and Hamas have really become.

The first source I thought of was actually China, although the arms might also have been paid for by the Saudis.

The Iranians (Persians) are NOT descendents of Ishmael. Their language is Indo-European (like English, German, and Hindi) NOT Semitic like Arabic and Hebrew. The Arabs and Israelis not only speak languages that are as closely related as Italian and Portuguese, but DNA studies publicized a few months ago show that the Jews and Palestianians in Israel are virtually genetically identical.

If you look at the Table of Nations you will see that Elam was a son of Shem from which come the Persians. Hence, strictly speaking, they are Semites althougn not through Arphaxad (from which come the Arabs and Israelites/Jews).

......did the IDF target the crew of the ship on account of their ethnicity....

discrimination is good. It allows one to distinguish between sheep and goats. The goats hate it because they pretend to be sheep.

Nice try, but no cigar. To be an Arab nation the language must be Arabic. The Iranians speak Farsi and so are classified as Persian.

Of the 15 nations that split from the former Soviet Union all have their borders decided by language.

"Forgive me for saying this but please... IRANIANS ARE "ARAB"

No, Iranians are Persians.

During World War Two, Persia changed her name to the Farsi word for Aryan in an effort to persuade Hitler to allow her into the Axis alliance. In Farsi, Aryan = "Iran".

But Persians are a different race from Arabs, and would take great offense to being lumped into their ethnicity. Arabs are not considered pure of blood, after all. Arabs are not the Master Race, and Persians think that they are that master race...

Good Lord man, don't go around making yourself appear so uneducated. You didn't know that Persians are a different race than Arabs, so what?! Just learn the error of your ways and go on about your business.

But telling me to go research 3000 years of history so that I might disagree with an entire nation about their race (but agree with you) is preposterous.
