THE folks at Msnbc are talking to former Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Alan Keyes about hosting a 10 p.m. show up against Fox News' new hire, Greta Van Susteren. Meanwhile, Van Susteren, a lawyer before her O.J. Simpson commentary turned her into a CNN star, reportedly has penned an eight-page memo detailing CNN's demerits. She plans to keep the document secret as long as CNN doesn't try to paint her as an ungrateful traitor.

I repeat:

Of what use are debating skills (jabbing and parrying) to the President of the United States?

How do you see debating skills translating into executive and leadership skills?

Do you think having a high IQ or good debating skills entitles you to put down others?

And if I were addressing my fellow Freepers, and national conservative leaders as if I was Heinrich Himmler addressing the B'nai Brith, I would not have the nerve to comment on how anyone addresses me.

After you translate that into English for the rest of us, how about pointing out who on this thread is a national conservative leader?

Ha! Heinrich Himmler was a Nazi! According to time honored debate principles, the first one to accuse the other of Naziism has lost the argument.

YOU LOSE!

KFP, I have always thought you were one of the more down-to-earth Keyesters. I'm sorry to see the company you now have to keep. It's kind of sad and I really do mean that. Unfortunately, people do judge you by the company you keep. I could say more, but I think you understand me.

This charge has been denied, and has not been documented. Individual 2nd and 3rd hand remarks are notoriously unreliable.

Well this is first hand information. I have a copy of the Keyes articles and Ole Okie and I heard him first hand on the radio. It was denied by the keyes staffers but we have documentation to the fact that was exactly what he said. Also called Bush -- Bush-Lite on the radio. Also said that Bush couldn't win in November because he didn't have the intelligence. That is firsthand!!!!!

Since you don't believe us the following comes from a Daily Oklahoman News article, 10 March 2000! I can fax anyone that wants a copy of this article!

Quoted from the article, 10 March 2000:

Republican front-runner George W. Bush will lose to Democrat Al Gore because Bush can't effectively articulate the Democratic Partyi's moral betrayal of the nation, GOP hopeful Alan Keyes said Thursday.

snip

Given the nation's properity and peace, "why should they elect Republicans to the White House?" he said.

Republicans stand a chance of winninng if voters go into the booth thinking of moral issues, Keyes said.

"G.W. Bush cannot make this case effectively," he said "...When it comes to dealing the issues of the moral crisis, he like many American politicians -- at a loss.

"So when he stands toe to toe with Al Gore on issues like abortion, he will come off looking second best because he doesn't know how to make the case properly and effectively -- and so we'll lose."

State Rep. Wayne Pettigrew, R-Edmond, asked Keyes who he would to have appointing the next three justices of the U.S. Supreme Court -- Bush or Gore?

Keyes said that was an academic question.

"The people who are deciding who's going to chose the next judges are folks who are deciding to put an ineffective, inarticulate, half-hearted indvidual into the naomination and send him out there," Keyes said.

"He's not going to win, and so he's not going to be appointing judges. Your deluding yourself."

Keyes said if Republiclans don't address the moral challenge, "we Republicans won't control the White House and therefore the whole issue of who he will appoint will be academic."

Keyes is on the primary ballot in Oklahoma on Tuesday, but he has not been the leader in any of the GOP primary races this year.

Some politicians get down because they take it as some rebuke against them if people don't vote for them, he said.

"If I'm presenting a message that makes sense and you go into the voting booth and vote for something elese, you haven't made a judgment against me; you've made a judgment against yourself and against America," Keyes said.

Skip to last paragraph:

Keyes said that if the GOP loses in November, he will be there "to say I told you so, because it's about time that Republicans wake up, stop acting like lemmings, and every four years going over the cliff of hard-hearted destruction." (end of quoting article)

The bold is mine! Now the keyes staffers can say my paper is lying too!

And I'll repeat....when exactly did Alan Keyes put you down???

It's not even worth the bother to attempt to explain the simple concept of why excellent communication skills are necessary for a politican. If that isn't a "given" in understanding to you - there's really nothing I can do to help you.

Try listening to (or reading) as much as you can of Ronald Regan - another great debator - he was brilliant with humor - too back he couldn't get ahold of Little Tommy Dashole - he'd have squashed him and it would have been laced with humor. Regan was brilliant there also in my opinion.

Let me ask you this....can you take honest critcism?

Yes. Honest criticism is good.

I notice whenever someone like Keyes offers even the slightest honest criticism of any policy of President Bush, some Bush supporters here on FR (the Bush worshippers) go ballistic. They respond with name calling and personal attacks on Keyes, while Keyes focuses on disagreements in policy.

Take a good look at this thread as an example. Merely the mention of a rumour that Alan Keyes might be hosting a show on MSNBC has elicited personal attacks against him and his character. The show doesn't even exist yet!

but it was such a shame she didn't discuss abortion in her ONE MINUTE SPEECH. Petty!

Laura Bush didn't discuss abortion because she is pro-choice. So is Barbara Bush.

But you know that.

Read post #245 about keyes and what he said in Oklahoma. I found the article while I was putting up my Christmas decorations. For some reason it was in the box of some of the decorations when I moved this summer. It was on the back page of the front section of The Daily Oklahoman, 20 March 2000 and tells it better than I can what keyes had to say about President Bush.

Why does the company you keep show up on a thread that merely mentions a rumour that Keyes might be offered a chance to host a cable TV show just to launch yet another round of unprovoked personal attacks against him?

You don't see me doing things like that.

Regards,

who on this thread is a national conservative leader?

Once again, one has to point out to you that commenting on a post is easier if you read it first. I said that Freepers on this thread AND national conservative leaders are being addressed in that fashion. According to the American Conservative Union, the leading conservative institution in this country for 36 years, Dr. Keyes is a national conservative leader. Just click on the CPAC website and see.

Sure didn't figure that I would need proof this much after his visit, but am sure glad I kept the articles and this one in particular. They keep this up and I just may post the whole article as news so these people can see how the keyes staffers have been lying about what he said!

Do you realize that George Bush showed up at that debate KNOWING that he would probably be outshone by Keyes, and that if he hadn't shown up, NO ONE WOULD HAVE TELEVISED IT?

Oh yes, they would have shown up. Remember, John McCain was the darlin' of the media. You must remember that.

Or do you?

Here is the article from the Oklahoma paper, from KEYES OWN WEB SITE:
Read the whole thing here.

Here is the opening paragraph of the article,
of which apparently he is quite proud,
since he has posted his smiling face beside it:

Doggedly refusing to consider the Republican race settled,
Alan Keyes told Oklahomans that Texas Gov. George W. Bush
can't win the presidency because he lacks the skills to expose
the ``great moral betrayal'' of the Clinton administration.
Ending a two-day campaign stop in the state Friday,
Keyes stuck mainly to religious and philosophical themes
as he decried a society he said is more dependent
on government than God.

This is from his OWN WEB SITE.
His comments were not helpful to the campaign,
and were, indeed, petty.
# 223 by Miss Marple

************************

You have a strange idea of "petty."

Allan Keyes "doggedly" ran for the Republican nomination from the begining.
Everybody said from that begining that he didn't have a chance.

Keyes ran for office because he didn't see anyone else
that cared about the violations he saw happening.
It isn't petty to try to right the wrongs you see around you.

Bush was acknowledged
as the only possible winner
of the Republican nomination,
yet there were 6 other candidates
for the position.

Were all of Bush's other challengers "petty" as well?

I, for one, have and will again explain my feelings toward Keyes and mince no words. I flat out do not like or trust the man. There are a number of reasons but underlying them all is a strong sense of distrust and suspicion. I won't elaborate because it's too much to explain. Suffice to say that I think he has exploited well-meaning people in order to make a living. I will forever be critical and speak openly because it galls me to see decent folks so spellbound by what I see as a snake oil salesman. You will never understand unless you someday jump ship and get a view from a distance. Eventually a lot of his fans start to realize that things don't add up.

. They don't even realize how hilarious they are! They are making this place seem more like Fool's Republic.

Why don't you explain to us how HILARIOUS this remark is:

"The people who are deciding who's going to chose the next judges are folks who are deciding to put an ineffective, inarticulate, half-hearted indvidual into the naomination and send him out there," Keyes said

Allan Keyes IS a Bush supporter.

Show me ONE quote from Alan Keyes supporting George W. Bush.

And before you do, I suggest you read PhiKapMom's reply. That doesn't sound like he's supporting Bush to me.
