Acting Gov. Jane Swift has chosen a 33-year-old openly gay staff member and former suburban mayor as her running mate in the 2002 election, an administration official told The Associated Press. Swift, 36, planned to announce her selection of Patrick C. Guerriero, later Thursday, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

just makes the word 'log' in "log cabin" churn my stomach... why couldn't they have called themselves something like GayGOPs.... 'pink pistols' is even pleasant.
I'm sure Frank Lloyd Wright's son is turning over in his grave (or will be soon if he isn't dead yet).

Being from MA, I think I can speak with some authority on the subject of Jane Swift. She is a political nightmare for the few remaining Republicans in this state. From the get go, she has been in the papers as a result of her numerous missteps, gaffes and social blunders. I think she may even be on the Dems' payroll, because even though MA appearsto be a liberal state, there are enough conservatives here who will see that she doesn't get elected, especially if a conservative Dem runs.

Kind of dumb. The gay activists in Massachusetts will never vote for a Republican in any case, so this will gain her nothing. on the other hand, it might help her hold onto the votes of gay republicans.

Forget the apartment. I'm gonna become a squatter on Ted Turner's ranch. I hear he has a thing for us Third World types.

I live in Massachusetts ... In a half hour, I can be in downtown Boston. In two hours, I can be on the Cape or in a NH ski area. In four hours, I can be in NYC or deep into Maine or Vermont.
SamAdams, those roads run the other way, too. You could LIVE in one of those states and VISIT Massachusetts. :)
There are also a lot of conservatives where I live. The liberal tag only applies to Boston proper and its suburbs. Outside of I-495, the state becomes decidedly conservative.
As a former conservative Massachusetts resident, who still works in Massachusetts, but lives in NH, I have to say, that a major part of the reason I left is that I got tired of never getting what I wanted for my vote. There were never enough other people in this decidedly conservative state to accomplish anything. At each election, or referendum question, I'd vote conservative, and then get some liberal policy or politician for my troubles. After a while, I decided that I wanted to live where things were already the way I was trying to vote them to be, and I left. Too many other Massachusetts people (probably from Boston and its suburbs :o ) apparently are following this trend, moving to the free state of NH and then voting in the same stupid policies you all suffer from in Massachusetts.

Instead of a candidate for Lieutenant Governor, I think this guy should be referred to as the candidate for VICE Governor.

Tempe IS conservative compared to Berkley, but is hardly conservative. There's too many ASU professors, university staffies, mindless soccer moms and geezers voting now. The latest stupidity is a city referendum banning smoking in ALL "public places" (which includes privately owned restaurants, etc.) I'm not a smoker, but I'm also not a "kill all the smokers" fascist, either.

A Democrat give up a tax revenue stream!? HA!Or a Republican? Ha!
It should be noted that the Republicans have had nothing whatsoever to do with the effort to stop them from taking your money and flushing it.

I've considered moving to New Hampshire, I only live 10 miles from the border as it is. But the property taxes there have me leery. I could easily triple my property taxes by moving there. Of course, I could offset that by getting a job in NH and avoiding the Mass. income tax. But I know people who live in NH and they have trouble finding jobs up that way. Often they end up working in Mass. so they get hit with the property taxes AND the income tax. Worst of both worlds.
I do most of my shopping in NH so I escape the Massachusetts sales tax whenever I can. But I have to grab a roll of quarters when I do because you guys up in New Hampshire sure love your tolls!

At least the libertarians in Mass are very pro gun rights, anti-tax, pro property, unlike the republican party which is just this side of drooling marxist clowns. And the Democrate party? Can you say organized crime?

Oh, I do know that. Carla Howell has been a workhorse in getting this issue before the Legislature. I'm sure they'll reject it. But the LP will only need approx. another 9500 signatures to get it on the ballot in November.
I'm not confident that the voting public will pass it though. There are too many sucking at the Government teat that won't lift a finger to stop it.
