December 20, 2001
I am pleased to send warm greetings to all who are celebrating Kwanzaa.
Established in 1966, Kwanzaa represents an African-American and Pan-African holiday celebrating family, community, and culture. The seven-day observance, beginning December 26 and ending January 1, serves as a special time to recog-nize and reaffirm the Nguzo Saba, or Seven Principles, of African culture. These are unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.
Kwanzaa provides an opportunity for people of African heritage, regardless of their religious background or faith, to come together and to show reverence for their Creator and creation, to commemorate the past, to recommit to high ideals, and to celebrate the good in life. These life-affirming traditions take on particular resonance this year, as the United States and the world face new challenges to peace. As individuals, families, and communities take part in this celebration of unity and of enduring values, I extend best wishes to people throughout the globe for a wonderful and memorable Kwanzaa. Best wishes on this special occasion.
GEORGE W. BUSH
Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day...you want to give someboby crap about "made-up holidays" talk to Hallmark.
When it was the Clintoons celebrating this hippie marxist black nationalist crap, everyone expected it. But Bush carrying on the idiotic tradition lends it legitimacy. He blew it - for whatever reasons: being politically correct, politicking, pandering, or just sheer stupidity - he definitely blew it.
Why anyone is surprised by this is truly puzzling. A statist GOP president supports a manufactured, marxist celebration. Hey! if it gets him one "black" vote, it is worth it - even if he loses a million conservative votes.
Sinkspur - you nailed it! Bush is on a roll with Black Americans - up from 5% in the election to 35+% last I heard.
...and we will be back down to the 5% range by November.
Always has, always will....
No matter how many times we get hit on the head on this issue, we NEVER learn.
..... Everyone keeps bringing these up as comparable "made up" holidays to Kwanzaa. Why don't you get it!? Am I not typing clearly!? Are you not reading what is presented here and in my links!?
Kwanzaa isn't like those other "made up" holidays because none of them were intended to spread the virulent marxist, racist ideaology of a violent gangleader. Mother's Day and Father's Day, while made up, have considerable merit and very little could be said against them. St. Valentine's day has a religious background to it. Kwanzaa isn't even comparable to those holidays mentioned and anyone who makes that argument obviously isn't paying any attention.
Maybe we need to hire a Democrat to teach us how to buy votes.
Americans have a right to be Marxists if they so desire, they have a right to seek political office as Marxists if they so desire. Americans have a right to celebrate, or create, a Holiday if they so desire, and worship the Eternal Marshmallow if they so desire.
The thing about Freedom, is that EVERYONE has the same Freedoms.
And the president of the United States is duty bound to safe guard the rights of these people to celebrate Kwanzaa, because he is the President of ALL THE PEOPLE, not just you, and those who agree with you.
Maybe we need to hire a Democrat to teach us how to buy votes.
Mabye we need someone like Lee Atwater who knows how to win an election without pandering to your enemies.
I would rather be an honest hillbilly than a hypocritical New York Liberal like you. At least, that is what you sound like...or is it Haaavaaad?
So if it helps GWB with black voters, I have no problem with a cheesy communique like this. After all, it was put together by a bunch of staffers while the Big Guy was off at the Ranch in Crawford.
If people want to celebrate Kwanzaa, that's their business. I don't agree with Bush's statement, but then again I don't agree with everything he does.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
I don't disagree. However, President Bush should not be legitimizing such racist, marxist nonsense. Would you be saying the same thing if he recognized the anniversary of the founding of the KKK? Racism isn't illegal, the KKK isn't illegal, wearing stupid bedsheets on your head isn't illegal. But for the president to even give that crap the time of day is a complete mistake.
Who's rights is he failing to safeguard if he rightfully ignores Kwanzaa? Is he also failing to safeguard the rights of the KuKluxers if he fails to recognize their misguided holidays (if there are any)?
Do you get it now?
It isn't racist simply because YOU deem it to be.
The people celebrating Kwanza, misguided as they may be, are not advocating violence, like the KKK does. The people celebrating Kwanza aren't doing so while hiding behind masks, like the KKK does. The people celebrating Kwanza, aren't even advocating the violent overthrow of the American government such as the Nation of Islam, or the Aryan Nation do.
"What rights is he failing to safeguard if he rightfully ignores Kwanza?"
The KKK has no holidays, the comparison between the two is a red herring.
So, it comes down to the fact that YOU believe that Bush should have ignored the "holiday"...what good would it have served?
I know what bad could have come out of it, it would have needlessly alienated a huge segment of the American voters.
Bad move for a president to make just to appease you.
ROTFLMAO!
Thanks, you made my day! A true belly laugh,,and I have quite a belly!
I have saved a fortune by not going to any of the places you mentioned.
Since you got it all wrong, and refuse to answer the first question, care to have another whack at it? I'd be curious as to the process a hillbilly uses to judge someone a hypocrite based on a question asked,,,, and also how they can determine where you live and where you went to school by that same question?
