Continental Flight Diverted to El Paso Due to Unruly Passengers

The Associated Press

Published: Dec 25, 2001

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Los Angeles was diverted to El Paso on Tuesday because of two unruly passengers, officials said. Flight 627 left Houston at 11:50 a.m. and landed in El Paso at 1:43 p.m., said Roland Herwig of the Federal Aviation Administration.

"There were actually two unruly passengers on board the aircraft and as a precautionary measure the plane was diverted to El Paso," Continental spokeswoman Julie King said.

King said the 757 resumed its flight to Los Angeles shortly after it landed.

She said she had no further details, and there were no immediate reports of any injuries.

Officials the El Paso International Airport, including the airport police department, did not return telephone calls placed by The Associated Press. AP-ES-12-25-01 1553EST

I'd sue them into oblivian for contract violation and false imprisonment.

I guess you haven't read those fine print liability disclaimers on the ticket, on somewhere in the ticket packet. They are about as favorable to the airlines as software disclaimers are to software companies.

Actually, since smoking was banned, there are a lot fewer "stinky" people...

Yeah, like the incontinent old Asian lady six rows in front of me on a non-stop flight from Dubai to Newark, who not only sprayed the midships toilet with yellowy fecal matter, but then didn't wash herself and returned to her seat. The flight crew was scared sh*tless to say anything to her, but God forbid some cigarette addict light up, they'd divert the flight to some socilaist country you would love to call home, and have the bastard drawn and quartered.

You health nazis are all the same. I hope that this true story makes you gag on your morning donut. Twelve hours of smelling Ginger sh*t.

Heil Hitler.

The only word I could think of that ended in 'tine' was libertine, and that didn't make sense. Nicotine certainly does, though.

Don't be an idiot.

You should take your own advice. There was no airport in New Mexico, Arizona or Nevada the captain could have landed at? If the closest airport after nearly two hours was El Paso then Continental has a lot of problems.

Further information shows that the unruliness was due to a stewardess throwing a bag of peanuts at a passenger who responded by throwing a drink at the stewardess. I certainly hope the stewardess was also removed from the flight.

"Yeah, like the incontinent old Asian lady six rows in front of me on a non-stop flight from Dubai to Newark"

Interesting "logic" at work here - I presume people like the lady above never flew in the grand old days of smoking on airplanes? That they were somehow prevented from flying by the brave ministrations of Joe Camel?

The only difference on that flight, in addition to the smell of fecal matter, there would have been the poisonous exhalations from the drug addicts puffing away in their “smoking area” (a no smoking area on a plane is like a no peeing area in a pool.)

"You health nazis are all the same."

That the majority do not want to inhale the results of your drug addiction does not make us nazis, regardless of how much you want it to be so. In fact, you diminish the power of the word by using it in such a flippant and foolhardy way. Nazis murdered millions of innocent people. Non smokers simply want to fly to their destination without choking on your smoke. Do you see the difference?

if it is reported to be two drunk college students, there will be at least a dozen people on this forum who claim it's a cover up.

And myself demanding stiff prison sentences!

I don't know whether there was or not. I was responding to your comment that the flight went only 600 NM in whatever time you suggested. Now, if you would have originally said what you just stated now, such as saying "Why didn't they land in New Mexico, Arizona, or Nevada" instead of what you did say, that would have been an interesting question and not a ridiculous comment.

I understand why you feel the need to lash back at someone who pointed out your stupid statement, but my response wasn't idiotic. Your original comment was.

Further information shows that the unruliness was due to a stewardess throwing a bag of peanuts at a passenger who responded by throwing a drink at the stewardess. I certainly hope the stewardess was also removed from the flight.

That's fine, but it has nothing to do with your original statement.

You seem to have a need to defend the unruliness of passengers, and I am wondering why.

It's in a different time zone from Houston, I think. Also, it would have a stop-over in San Antonio.
