We are taking nominations for our first-ever RINO (Republican in Name Only) of the year award. This award will recognize a Republican who has advanced egregious anti-growth, anti-freedom or anti-free-market policies. The "winner" may be a member of Congress or any other state or local elected official. (Sorry, our economically challenged Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill is not an elected official, so he is ineligible.)
Here are some front-runners who have already been nominated:
Governor Don Sundquist of Tennessee for repeatedly trying to enact a State income tax.
Rep. Greg Ganske (Iowa), a Republican sponsor of the Democratic bill to federalize 30,000 airport workers.
Sen. Mike Enzi, for co-sponsoring the Internet tax bill.
Sen. John McCain, for voting for a key amendment by Democratic Leader Tom Daschle and for offering his own amendment that would have gutted the Bush tax cut.
California Assemblyman Mike Briggs, for making it possible for Gov. Gray Davis to pass his tax increase budget this year.
Please fax (202-955-9466) or e-mail your nominations by 12/19/2001. You should include a few sentences about your nominee's anti-growth efforts in 2001. If you have particularly dumb quotes from the nominee that attempt to explain his actions, please include this information. We will then have a poll of our members and our Board will make the selection from the finalists.
Thank you for your nominations.

I give northeastern Rino's a geographic handicap, I really don't expect them to have any principles, backbone, cajones, or whatever. Tax and spend is all they know, in the case of Chaffee (and probably the rest), its genetic.
Personally, I think Jeffords should be disqualified, but a case can be made for keeping him in the running because he was a RINO for a few months this year....Also, I'm biased because I detest the senior senator from AZ so much.
You know, she deserves an award in her own right....Turkey of the Century award for her!
Did I say anything about voting for a third party candidate? I suspect that in 99% of the elections, particularly on the local level, the Conservative Party endorses the same candidate as the Republican Party, so even though you might be enrolled as a conservative, you're still voting lockstep with the Republicans.
What I'm talking about is the party platform, where a small plurality of conservatives force a conservative platform upon the Republican Party, which by definition should stand to the left of the democraps, but to the right of Conservatives. I do believe that non-conservative Republicans are the mainstream of the Republican Party, and that they are more likely to jump ship and vote for the enemy if they are uncomfortable with a conservative platform, than the enemy is willing to jump ship and vote Republican to escape a liberal platform. Indeed, I know many Republicans here in the Northeast who have and will vote for a democrap, rather than a Republican who is forced to defend what is often portrayed and percieved as a conservative platform.
Ahhh yes...a favorite tune of mine, Ol' Chap...MUD
Next year though could be the year for potential California Governor (hah! fat chance!) and former L.A. Mayor Dick Riordan.
Lott draws lines in the sand & carries dasshole over them.
Actually, we're trying to keep the GOP from being hijacked by the RINOs...but good luck in the Conservative Party. Lotta good folks over there.

If you live in New York, you might as well vote Communist. Here in Florida, we have a REAL Republican party.
Hey Lab, how do you like those high taxes and fascistic gun laws?
How so?! You must be referring to libertarian issues.
Yes, nationally; however, we Virginians need to be cognizant to clean up the mess in our own backyard!!
John Warner's a RINO mess...MUD
