I'm an @home customer, AT&T to be exact. At 8:15 CST, I no longer could access any pages. Not google.com, not cnn.com, none of the old standbys that ALWAYS work.
I've heard a lot about the poaaibility of @Home pulling the plug on 4.1 million customers. Did it happen? The only reason I can connect at all is that my lovely and gracious fiance also has a dialup account for when she is on the road, and I am calling in here using that. I am presently on hold on the AT&T@Home help line. I'll have more information.
Technically, the light is on but no pages are being connected. My Cable Modem is up and connected but nothing loads.
This is with no input form us so I can only assume it's coming from the net.

The moral of the story is that just because you're connected, doesn't mean you're PROPERLY connected. This tweak site is very convenient for newcomers to broadband.

Some sources have said that the cable companies hope to extend their contracts at least through next week, when AT&T is expected to make a $307 million bid for Excite@Home's cable assets. If and when the sale is finalized, AT&T could renegotiate contracts again. AT&T's bid has also become rife with controversy. Many Excite@Home shareholders and creditors say the company's cable assets are worth vastly more than $307 million--some insisting that fair market value is as high as $1 billion. AT&T Broadband representatives said this week they could assume about 20 percent of Excite@Home customers if the company shuts off service. Excite@Home has been in meetings for the past several weeks with AT&T as well as other cable companies. Sources close to the deal said few of those involved in the talks really want a shutdown of Excite@Home, and some bondholders are willing to accept bids even marginally more than $307 million. "Anything is possible with enough money," said Bill Weintraub, an attorney who represents the bondholders committee. But he added that the $307 million offer was "clearly inadequate at this point."

Look like all you refugees are slowing me down from my normal 1800(down)/340(up). Yawn............
Like I said, Americans can be incredible about holding grudges over the smallest of things. There are people still today who refuse to buy Exxon oil, and look at the reaction to Jane Fonda. And it only makes it worse that Gay T & T was not only one of the first corporations to cower to and appease the the homosexual and minority extortionists, they have also been one of the most outspoken and proactive corporate supporters. If memory serves correct, wasn't AT&T also involved in a potential hitech venture with the Clinton administration back in '93, a project they tried to keep secret that would have severely invaded Americans' privacy? I'm sure some of you could fill in the details, my memory is sketchy on all the facts. But point being, irregardless of when my service is switched over, AT&T has lost any chance of me as a future customer. Once my contract runs out and alternatives are available, see ya later and don't bother calling. I've got a long memory.
OK, a little background on why the opus and how I got pinched harder. Dialup is not an option at the moment. As a student, to save money I went with only a cell phone, no landline. Living near an area code change in Dallas-Ft. Worth, the extra costs for extended area calling made a cell equivalent to a landline. But here is where lack of redundancy bites me. Hey, its simply the results of choices I made, and the risks I took, and I still have internet access through school, so all is not lost. But again, the way AT&T has handled it(no information when it counted), their precipitation of this crisis(70% voting control of @home, @home was cash-flow positive, yet AT&T in effect pushed them into bankruptcy to try and get a steal of a deal), and their leftist political activism has finally gone too far for me to do business with them in good conscious. Burn in hell, rat bass terds, I've got a long memory.

AT&T Statement Regarding Excite@Home's Chapter 11
Bankruptcy filing
Judge Thomas E. Carlson of U.S. bankruptcy court today canceled the Master Distribution Agreements between the At Home Corporation and the cable companies to which it provides high-speed Internet service, including AT&T.
AT&T has not been told whether or not the At Home Corporation intends to shut down its service. However, AT&T representatives are scheduled to meet with executives of At Home to discuss the matter. AT&T is prepared to take appropriate steps to protect service to its customers, including, if necessary, moving its customers to a new high-speed Internet network immediately.
The company said that individual customers could be moved to the new network in one to 14 days if necessary. The company will automatically issue credits to all customers who experience an interruption of service at the rate of two days free service for every day of interruption.
The company noted that former MediaOne customers, who are served by the AT&T Broadband network are not affected by today's action. Nor are customers of AT&T Broadband's video or telephony services.

AT&T gave me a call while I was out. My son took the call. Plus the cable modem is flashing like it's being reprogramed.
AT&T is apparently trying to fix the situation. I'll give them time to do that.
When they were the only phone company it was the 8th Wonder of the World. Then the Kennedy's and socialists got involved and broke it up. From that point on my phone service went downhill.
