We need the stewardship of 5,000 Free Republic members to insure the continuation of the Free Republic Life Form!
Jim Robinson said in yesterday's post: "My projections are that our regular monthly expenses for next year will be running in the neighborhood of $22,000 per month, or approximately $264,000 total for the year. This means we will need to raise approximately $66,000 per quarter."
If 5,000 Free Republic members who believe in paying their own way and that no free lunch ever exists, pledge $5/month. Jim's goals and needs will be quickly surpassed!
5,000 good stewards of Free Republic pledging $5/month will total $75,000 per quarter. That would allow Jim/John a little breathing room!
Many of us donate more per month than that. So please don't reduce your donation. We just need 5,000 regular pledgers to make things easier for Jim.
Are there 5,000 good Stewards out there who can afford $5/month to keep alive the Free Republic Life Form?
One way to afford this is to cancel your subscription to your left wing fish wrap or bird cage liner. Donate half of that monthly cost to your favorite charity and the rest to Free Republic. If you do this, you remove your money from the enemies of America and invest it with the friends of America, Free Republic! That would be a double winner for America!
Become one of the 5,000 Freepers who believe that there is no Free Republic lunch and that only parasites want something for free! Sign up for $5/month on a monthly auto payment plan!
Bitching, moaning and nitpicking are okay as long as those doing that make sure that Free Republic, which, they are bitching, moaning and nitpicking stays alive. Thanks for caring!
Right on! Let's keep the FR Christmas lights on, and let Jim relax on this Christmas with 5000 monthly donors!
I remember that. Like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe. So, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them. 'Give me five bees for a quarter', you'd say. Now, where were we? Oh, yeah...the important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war; the only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.
Maybe you could link this our California energy crisis bump list and other lists!
Thanks
That's a great idea, however, I am concerned that some will see it as an elitist symbol, a "get out of jail free" card for flaming and otherwise acting rudely. Both the "haves" and "have nots" may interpret or use the symbol incorrectly. I am not sure how to correct this possible problem.
To bring even more problems to the table, some have opined that donors are treated with kid gloves by the moderators, which is untrue, but a symbol would only further validate those faulted assertions.
A Norman Rockwell-esk Christmas portrait of JimRob at his computer might be nice too. :)
Worth repeating!!!!
I forget when I started do the monthly, I know I made a contribution to winter quarter fundraiser - so I guess it must have been the March one that I started. it's not much $12 a month - but I felt it worth it. That's less than the cost of a case of beer!!!!
When I lost my source of income in July, my husband said that I could continue the contribution. When his position at work got changed and further cut or income, he told me I could continue my contribution. He's a lurker, but doesn't spend much time here (I keep him in formed!!!) but feels that I get so much out of it, and have met so many wonderful folks, that he will not deny me, cause it makes me feel better!!!!
I'm not looking for sympathy - Like you I'm just trying to make the case, that GrampaDave's $5 a month is not asking a whole lot!!!!
Having done a lot of work with non profits and with my church for decades, I have evolved to responding to the emotional charges you mention with a simple, "So!" Then in some cases with some really rude individuals, I have started using your dad's comments, "Stuff a sock in it or move on!" At age 63, I never worry about losing those who never contribute and just try to run down an organization! In most cases the organization is better without them!
Of course the decision is Jim's and yours! I recognize that fact and so do most of your loyal supporters! It just seems that could be some way to identify those Freepers who really care on a regular basis without being intrusive and other PC words!
*The reason why I selected a $5/month regular donation was based on Jim's cost data of your upcoming expenses! We don't have to know the amount per month, but it would be nice to know who is paying for their lunch and the lunch for the other 90%!
Thanks for your comments, and we realize that Jim and your decision on this little issue is yours!
