TBN Televangelists Buy $5,000,000 Home
Deception in the Church ^ | Nov.4,2001, page K15 | LOS ANGELES TIMES,

DITC Commentary: Ever wonder where all those "seed faith" dontations are going? Whose getting rich again? Remind me. It thought it was those people who sent in their seed faith donations who were going to get a "100 fold increase" and that they would be the ones buying luxury homes. What a shock to find out it doesn't work out that way! Duh!!!!

Televangelists JAN and PAUL CROUCH of the Costa Mesa-based Trinity Broadcasting Network have purchased a Newport Beach house for close to $5 million, Orange County Realtors say.

I paint a broad brush, don't I? What I meant was the ones who believe that a criticism on (or a disagreement) with Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, TBN, Jim Bakker, et al, is an 'assault on Christians and Christianity'. There are always people who think that, too.

I don't believe in speaking in tongues or modern-day miracles, so I'd say I'm pretty conservative myself religiously. I don't think that it's wrong for them to have a house or a $5M house for that matter. It is wrong for them to use the name of God solely as a fund-raising ploy and take the donations originally meant for "spreading the Word" and use it for their personal gain. That they do. TBN is not religion. It's the "religion business".

How many Social Security recipients paid for that $5M house? Would Jesus do that? No way!

BUMP!

Acts 2 clearly debunks the 'speaking in tongues' rumour. If it can't be understood, it isn't useful for anyone.

Hinn's wife was arrested a year or two ago for shop lifting in South Africa. Does anyone know the outcome of this?

That's the million dollar question (no pun intended). And I agree, 100%, with your answer. No way, no how.

Thanks for the bump.  Jesus warned about false prophets and teachers, of a broad way and a narrow way, and of the deceitfulness of riches and of those who do things for filthy lucre's sake and that their end is destruction.  A prophecy from Stanley Frodsham in 1965 warned exactly how false prophets and teachers would come and deceive.  We are watching the fulfillment of those things.

What deflection are you talking about? I look to the plain language of the amendment. If you don't like it, you are always free to call for repealing the first amendment.

A graduate of the Tammy Faye School of Cosmetology.

I have come to the conclusion that Tammy Faye would make one helluva neighbor. She plays MiMi's mother on Drew Carey--she can't be all bad. Seriously, she has an ability to laugh at herself and doesn't seem to take herself to seriously.

As for her ex-husband...I saw him on a talk show not too long ago. If things are as they appeared, I think he has turned something bad into something good. The impression I had was that he had changed for the better.

You are aware that in the beginning days of TBN, Jim and Tammy Bakker were partners with Paul and Jan in starting the station aren't you?
They had a big falling out, and Jim and Tammy left, but there was a lot of bitterness.

Point is, Tammy Faye and Jan were friends, so I am sure they shared makeup and clothing tips, since they both have the same style.

>Jesus was homeless...

Only by choice, and to make a point. He could call down Angels to help anytime.

His Mother came from a very rich family. His Uncle was Joseph of Arimethia, owner of a fleet of ships that plied the waters to the tin mines of England, and one of the richest Jewish politicans (a member of the Sanhedrin) in the area.

>It's kind of hard to be a role model to any Christian when you're so out of the realm of what the average person has: a modest income with average comfort. That's my $.02.

According to that model you should sell your computer and give the money to the poor!

I have no problem with their living well. It's their non-specific cafeteria style theology that bothers me.

I am one of those Christians, and I agree with you, I sure am not going to blast you for saying what is probably true. They do give Christianity a bad name, and they are an embarrassment to some of us.
They do NOT however, represent the whole of Christians, and not all Freepers who are believers, but I can see where some would get the idea that they do.
The LOVE of money, is the root of all Evil, and I am afraid some of the big time Ministries have fallen into this pit. I can't speak for what is in their hearts, but the outside sure makes me think this about some of them.
I hope for their sake, that this is not true, but the evidence sure points to it since they always beg for money for the Gospel, then purchase a 5 million dollar home.

Well, yeah, but they're televangelists. That's the whole idea of being in show business. Televangelists are to religion as rasslin' is to sports.

BINGO!!

>It is wrong for them to do this and they are going to have to answer to God. However, they sure have some good programs.

IMHO you have it exactly backwards. It is for their programs they will answer to God, not because they like an ocean view.

>Televangelists are to religion as rasslin' is to sports.

It is an excellent analogy which also applies to Politicians and actors of all kinds. Each has a specific "shtick" to establish and maintain his place in his chosen field of entertainment.

TBN is circus for those who don't know what they believe, but think they are being holy for watching it.

I watch John Hagee on that channel, and everytime they beg for money, "we're going bankrupt, give us your money!!!" They make it out that you are no better than Satan if you don't pay donate hundreds or thousands of dollars to them. It doesn't surprise me in the least.
