THEY'RE TAKING YOUR FORESTS -- ACT NOW!!

They're Taking Your Forests - ACT NOW !!!

Your future use of and access to all national forests nationwide could well be damaged or eliminated by a decision that will be made by a key Bush Administration official with the Department of Agriculture in charge of the Forest Service late Friday.

It will only take five minutes of your time to click on a special e-mail letter addressed to the key Congressmen and Mark Rey, Undersecretary of Agriculture responsible for the Forest Service using the URL below. Please go immediately to the following site and click on your letter. It is so easy and so important.

http://capwiz.com/cfa/issues/alert/?alertid=73392&type=ANWhat's the problem?

The Forest Service is still infected with hundreds of policy makers left over from the Clinton Administration. They support ecosystem management. That is a new word for getting rid of access, forestry, mining, grazing, and most recreation in our national forests. In other words, the elimination of MULTIPLE USE and the use of PRIVATE PROPERTY. Friday Mr. Rey must make a decision about whether or not to pull back the SIERRA NEVADA ECOSYSTEM PLAN of FRAMEWORK. It is referred to as the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendments (SNFPA). This plan sets the stage and creates the environment to make it possible for the Forest Service to get rid of multiple-use in all the national forests in the Sierra Nevada in California and Nevada. It also endangers all private property owners in the Sierra Nevada. It attacks the water supply for large areas of California and Nevada.

Why should you care if you don't live in California or Nevada? If the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendments (SNFPA) (ECOSYSTEM PLAN) goes through, it will set a precedent for the massive elimination of most elements of multiple use AND private property in every national forest throughout America. There must be an uprising of all private property and multiple use advocates by sending specially crafted e-mail letters Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Congress and the Forest Service must be overwhelmed by your response.

This is the Bush Administration. Can't I feel secure they will make the right decision protecting private property and multiple use in our national forests? NO!!!This is the exact mistake private property and multiple-use and recreation advocates made when Ronald Reagan was elected. They made the same mistake when George Bush was elected in 1988. Now our side is making the same mistake with the new Bush Administration. Because we keep making the same mistake, we keep losing. Multiple use, recreation and private property advocates are taking the Bush Administration for granted. That is a loser. If we had not taken them for granted already, the plan would not be this far along and we would have had a better chance at a good decision. It is critical that you rise up and bang on the brain of the new Bush Administration. If you don't the other side will take your rights. It is natural for officials, no matter what their history, to go toward the path of least resistance.

Our side is sitting down. We're so tired of fighting the Clintonites that we just want to TRUST that the new Bush Administration will do the right thing. It will not happen if we don't do our job. We must create the clamor for what we want. You can be sure those people who want to get rid of multiple use, recreation and private property rights will be doing their job. All of us must act quickly create the clamor for what you want or you will lose. Big time.

Don't lose your rights by sitting on your hands. Don't let a decision that on the surface affects California and Nevada undercut your rights and future use of all national forests. Call your Congressman and both Senators Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to urge them to ask the Bush Administration Agriculture Department Officials to pull back the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendments (SNFPA) (ECOSYSTEM PLAN) for review. The best thing is for them to overturn the plan. If our side sits on its collective hands now, then we will all deserve the loss of rights and uses that will come with doing nothing. That must not happen.

ACTION ITEMS: -----1. Call your Congressman AND BOTH SENATORS. Every Congressman and Senator may be reached at the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 225-3121. One number gets them all. Tell them this plan will affect your national forests.

There is a temporary FREE NUMBER of (800) 648-3516. That will also get you every Congressman. This line may get busy. If so, use the regular switchboard number. Do not fail to make your calls.

-----2. Send the simple "point and click" letter at the following site that are pre-addressed to the appropriate officials.

This is serious, and is the real deal. It was upheld on appeal by the Chief of the Forest Service, and is now being reviewed by the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Mr. Rey. He may decide to uphold the Chief's decision, or not to uphold it. Once his decision is made, either way, the lawsuits will begin. This Sierra Nevada plan amendment will have sweeping effects to users and will be a "blueprint" for how other regions will do their forest planning. It will vastly reduce uses, except for recreational uses. Timber harvest and livestock grazing will suffer. The claim is the decision was based on "science", but don't be fooled. The panel of "scientists" had an agenda, the decision was political.

More than political it will be INCREDIBLY destructive to the forests it is purported to protect. This plan has been opposed by virtually any decent scientific forester or fire ecologist of whom I am aware. It is a recipe for catastrophic fire, infestation by exotic weeds, and subsequent massive erosion. The system may NEVER recover.

Maybe this thread would get more attention if we could somehow link the Sierra Nevada plan amendment to Harry Potter.

Thanks for the ping. I sent the form letter followed up by an e-mail to Mark Rey. Mark is a former staffer for Senator Larry Craig...he's a good man... and a fellow forester if I remember right.

It's hitting us from every direction this week in So. Oregon. Bush and Norton MUST fire some of these bureaucrats. We are being ousted one acre at a time.

We had noticed that some local enviro's had been running ads recently for paid "activists". This morning one of the few areas left were being auctioned for logging on BLM land. Well, the enviro's showed up in the 100's, rushed the doors, blocked the timber people from entering. Last I heard 2 had been arrested. The enviro's managed to do a bunch of property damage also, tore up the bathrooms, etc. Looks like they got some Eugene Anarchist help. Will let you know more, when I hear.

It is incredible how many posts Harry Potter gets, and then something as important as this just dies on the vine. Well, a bump for the future of the lands we all should care about.

Bruce Babbit will be speaking to a roomful of prospective environmental attorneys at Kresge Auditorium on the Stanford University Campus at 4:00 PM tomorrow.

It is my intent to be there and give him the warmest of FReeper welcomes. Anyone care to join me and ask a few pointed questions citing well-supported data? If you can't be there, how about a few prayers?
