This is serious, and is the real deal. It was upheld on appeal by the Chief of the Forest Service, and is now being reviewed by the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Mr. Rey. He may decide to uphold the Chief's decision, or not to uphold it. Once his decision is made, either way, the lawsuits will begin. This Sierra Nevada plan amendment will have sweeping effects to users and will be a "blueprint" for how other regions will do their forest planning. It will vastly reduce uses, except for recreational uses. Timber harvest and livestock grazing will suffer. The claim is the decision was based on "science", but don't be fooled. The panel of "scientists" had an agenda, the decision was political.

More than political it will be INCREDIBLY destructive to the forests it is purported to protect. This plan has been opposed by virtually any decent scientific forester or fire ecologist of whom I am aware. It is a recipe for catastrophic fire, infestation by exotic weeds, and subsequent massive erosion. The system may NEVER recover.
