The Airlines in the United States of America will be BANKRUPT SOON, as they should be!!

"...whether millions of Americans will allow themselves to be treated like convicted criminals for no purpose whatsoever. The only alternative is to stop flying..."

And stop flying, we have, because 'flying' is no longer safe on Government-Regulated-United States-Airlines!! The drop-off in air travel is over 30%, and it will continue to diminish until the Public Citizens 'FEEL' safe.

And what will make the Public Citizens 'FEEL' safe? Well, about 80% of the people asked, including me, have said that the Pilots SHOULD be armed with handguns, so-that they are able to kill anyone attempting to steal their airship, or endanger their crew and passengers! It's a simple solution, and it's incredibley easy to understand, and it is endorsed by every person that wants to take to the sky!

GWBUSH, when asked: "Are we gonna Arm Airline Pilots"?, answered: "No, we don't wanna do that!"

.

As an aside, it should also be noted that retired Police Officers and FBI folks, already Concealed-Carry, who volunteered their gun-toting expertise on Airlines, have also been told to shut-up and go-away!

.

And now, the TAX DOLLARS! How much of your HARD-EARNED Tax Dollars are you willing to GIVE to the AIRLINES?

Wouldn't you rather have an Explorer or a Tahoe?....

The adgenda in Washington is still the same. Disarm the Americans!

We're on our own out here, kids, and I'll smile every time an Airline goes belly-up!

Gee-whiz! G.W. sounds like John Wayne, but he acts like Jimmy Carter!

ARM THE PILOTS!! Oops! Didn't happen!

The airlines can KMA with their non smoking policy, if I have to ride in one of those potential deathtraps again, I am going to smoke!

And the condescending flight attendants that don't want to serve you that extra drink so you can actually relax can KMA as well!

Nah...I want to be homeless so I can get in on the $1B in grants and have a home.
I'll wait for the auto grants to come down the pike as they surely must.
Got the house, need a car, simple. Each according to their needs right? Oops...need a job too. I didn't have one before, making me homeless, and couldn't even afford rent.
Isn't the government here to help me?

The Airlines in the United States of America will be BANKRUPT SOON...
Throw more of other peoples money at the problem, that solves everything! And if there isn't enough money just print more. Open another printing office if they can't handle the workload.

Er...is now the time to raise the issue of peanuts on airline flights? Geez, they used to go pretty well with a bourbon on the rocks

Do you think they'll give me one of those "handler" jobs?
I don't know what "handlers" do but it sure sounds interesting. Do I handle others or am I handled?

I wonder how much you will be smiling when consolidation occurs and you pay double for your ticket to visit Aunt Claudia?

Why someone can find glee when a vital part of the American economy goes south, is beyond me. Does the sight of the WTC on 9/11 also make you smile?

Not all pilots would be capable of being armed and defending the airship. What if they are Democrats? What then? Some pilots will simply have the guns taken away from them.

I think a better solution is exactly what they are doing now and add on a militia style aspect to the aisle seating in First Class. This seats dshould be assigned to robust men only and they should be briefed and empowered, just like the exit row "posse" that exists now. Thier job, if asked to do so, would be to keep anyone out and away from the cockpit. This would be a tremendous detterent to anymore of the type of attack there was on 911.

Of course, the chances of this ever happening again are zero. All the preparations we are making are a huge waste of time. We all know now that a hijacker may want to crash the plane into a building, so there is no need and no future in "holding back" and hoping they are playing nice. Any future hijack attempts will be dealt with by male passengers in a desperate manner since thier lives depend on it. I stand ready as a frequent flier to vicously attack any and all threats from other passengers. In fact, yesterday, I told a complaining whining trouble making passenger (an old fart) to sit down and shut up. When he protested that it was none of my business, I told him that indeed it was.

I hope you are a frequent flyer on AA.

I agree. The solutions are so simple and do not need to cost the American taxpayer a single penny. Arm the pilots and allow the passengers to be armed as well (airlines will provide the frangible rounds - cost of the rounds added to the cost of the ticket.. perhaps 3 - 5 dollars more). Only requirement is that the passenger be at least 18 years old and purchased/made reservations at least 5 days in advance of the flight. IF a Moslem mad-hatter(s) is (are) stupid enough to draw his (their) gun(s) once on board he (they) are instantly going to be facing an armed militia... and there might be some "innocent" lives lost but this is better than thousands dying or the whole airplane w/ passengers going down. Instead our government has passed an absolutely asinine "security" bill which will have the end result of costing the taxpayers millions, bankrupting the airlines and WILL NOT make it safer to fly. Why the airlines went along with this I don't know - there must have been some back-room deals made with the airline executives. Of course the government's course of action will further convince us citizens that we are not capable nor trusted enough by our government to ensure the safety of our lives nor the financial well-being of our airlines.

Howdy, old rock-head friend!!!!

"...I wonder how much you will be smiling when consolidation occurs and you pay double for your ticket to visit Aunt Claudia?..."

It's been a good ride for me so far, and I hope it's been a good ride for you, too, Orion!

"...Why someone can find glee when a vital part of the American economy goes south, is beyond me..."

The 'vital-part' of American Commerce in the air is FED-EX, UPS, and all the other package-carriers. The passengers on Commercial Airlines are just sheep, and never have been a profit center!

"...Does the sight of the WTC on 9/11 also make you smile?..."That comment really was uncalled for, old friend. My distain for our dishonest Government, and an Airline Industry that mocks safety, in no way, indicates that I think 9-11 was a good idea!

The Government has decided that Arming Pilots is a bad idea! The Flying-Public has said that Arming Pilots is a GOOD idea! We shall see who's right on this one! Stay well and vigilant...FRegards

gonzo...

Truth in what you say, however, that is not a solution, nor is it good for the country, it is an emotional responce to a very complicated problem.

Returning to the days when the airlines were directly on the government dole is not desirable in any form.

IMO, stop flying. I'm not going to be humiliated with the unlawful, 'symbolism-over-substance' searches passengers have to go thru now. I'm not going to submit.

And no more tax payer funded subsidies for the airlines, that's unlawful, also. Thanks to the 'helping, guiding' hand of socialism, the airlines appear to face the same fate as the railroads.

It's only the people who have no NEED to fly or those who don't intend to fly that have this attitude. How are businessmen supposed to get from one branch to another? How are people going to take their vacations?

And more than either of the above, you think it'd serve airline employees right to have all their jobs eliminated? Do you think THAT might cost the government a little money?

Try thinking the problem through a little before gleefully condemning an entire industry, and the US economy, to death.

Why must every topic on this forum sooner or later be turned into a hidden agenda re the gun issue ? Don't try to solve one problem by creating another.

I'll fly again once they make smoking and a free two drink minimum mandatory on all flights. I live in my own little paradise so I won't have to go anywhere far to have fun. I had it in my mind a long time ago that this was the lifestyle I wanted to have.

Screw 'em. The market demand will draw someone into the arena who can eventually do this the right way. Business will change to accomodate the inconveniece. There will be a slight setback, but then a major boom in industry, in other words, we'll get over it.

Why someone can find glee when a vital part of the American economy goes south ...

This is not a general reaction, this response comes from years of shabby treatment, lying employees, and general anti-customer policies that the protected airline industry has instituted as standard operating procedure. The airline industry will learn to place their customers first or go the way of the dodo.

The vision of passengers standing in line for two or three hours to get on an airliner is proof positive that the airlines will be cut to the number that is absolutly necessary for passengers that absolutely need to fly.

The government involvement in the screening process will cause a further deterioration in the process. Most people are reluctant to give up the right of self-defense in favor of government harassment.

I do have a need to fly. I stopped on Oct. 20, 2001. I told the company I work for I'm not traveling, except by car.

If the airlines go down due to lack of business, it's because they don't have the guts and know-how to run a business. The US ecomony will will only be hurt if government subsidizes and bails out the airlines at OUR expense. BTW, The people running the government do not have the wisdom and intellegence to out-think the free enterprise system.
