BUT WHAT ABOUT SNOW WHITE AND THE WIZARD OF OZ?
Lynchburg (Va.) Ledger (via Nealz Nuze) | Rev. Kort Greene Jr.

Posted on 11/19/2001 7:07:32 AM PST by Phantom Lord

Harry Potter, the movie, grossed over $93 million this past weekend. Good! I love it. I love it for two reasons: First, the Potter phenomenon is responsible for sending millions of children worldwide to the books. They actually put down the video games controllers and picked up books! Second, the Potter books and movies are making religious zealots just nuts!

For the lighter side of today’s Nuze I offer you this letter to the editor which appeared in the Lynchburg (Va.) Ledger:

Letter to the Editor:

Religion in Politics

Harry Potter and "Wizardry."

The Bible says that we are to stay away from wizardry, witchcraft, sorcery, divination, charmers, etc., that these are an "abomination" (sin) unto the Lord. (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). "Harry Potter" advocates these things, thusly contradicting the Word of God.

I have prayed fervently that the September 11th calamity would lead this country to repentance and a national revival. I will continue to pray that prayer. However, It’s disheartening to see a great number of the American people turn to "Satan worship" rather than to God.

The "Harry Potter" craze is Satanism. I have not read the book nor have I seen the movie, and I don’t intend to do either. But, I have seen and heard enough to make this determination. Many are saying that it’s just an innocent movie for entertainment, and that they don’t see anything wrong with it. Well, the Bible tells us to trust in the Lord and lean not unto our own understanding. Now, I know this is an insult to the "intellects." But, one’s intelligence is "null and void" compared to God’s wisdom. The Bible also tells us to stay away from even the "appearance" of evil, and this appears to be evil. For those who think that this movie is just innocent entertainment remember, Satan is a master deceiver.

This nation is in a fragile situation. We can easily go one way or the other. We need to turn to God. If we don’t, then September 11th is just a "drop in the bucket," compared to what’s in store for us.

Psychics, Witchcraft, Wizards, etc. are "real" but, they are of the Devil. God is also real and has power over the Devil but, we must turn to Him.

I’m a native Washingtonian. The Washington "Bullets" used to be my favorite basketball team. Because of the "gun control" issue, their name was changed to the "Wizards." I’m no longer a Washington fan. I have several bullets/guns in my house and I have yet to see one go off and kill someone. Bullets/guns don’t kill people, people do. Wizardry is unGodly, and so is Harry Potter.

May America repent and be blessed, amen.

Rev. Kort Greene Jr.

Here is a preacher who has never read a Harry Potter book, and hasn’t seen the movie. It doesn’t matter, though. He’s “heard enough” to know that Harry Potter is Satanic. Let’s all give thanks that this letter does not in any way represent the feelings or thought patters of mainstream Christianity. This is not the way to bring people to God.

You will note that the comments are that of Neal Boortz and not mine. And you obviously missed my small type under the Bible Thumpers comment.

She was quoted as saying something to the affect of Jesus Christ is a hoax and at the end of the world He will kneel down and suck the c$%k of our dark lord. I wish I still had the article. I think she said that to the London Times.

She never said that; it was a spoof from The Onion.

The article is at The Onion. It's a spoof. JK Rowling didn't really say those things.

"Bible Thumpers Be Gone"

Now that's a pretty intelligent thing to say.
What do you have against people who read the Bible (the most widely published book in history)?
Have you studied it? Have you even read it?
(Ahem, don't look now, but your ignorance is showing).

Um, more like The Onion, which is a fake news website! Sheesh.

Don't look now, but your inability to read is showing. Look again.

The $93 million figure is a bit sickening though.

Why? What does it matter to you what a particular movie grosses? Don't see it if you don't want to add to it. One thing that irritates me about some of my fellow conservatives is that they are such busybodies!

I have one comment to make re: this Harry Potter business, just MHO, and I have no intention of disputing it etc.

Many people compare Harry Potter to the Wizard of Oz, Snow White etc.

The difference with Harry Potter, is that " real witch, wizard, and demonic names are used. Real witchraft spells are used. I personally know a few young kids (& I know there are many more) that are now running to libraries and researching books On witchraft and the occult to practice spells etc.

If a person does not believe in evil or evil spirits or Satan than they are being deceived and this is leading a generation into the occult. Is this what we want for our children ?

Sorry but you're not very adept at adult conversation. I think your mother is calling you...

"I think it's absolute rubbish to protest children's books on the grounds that they are luring children to Satan," Rowling told a London Times reporter in a July 17 interview. "People should be praising them for that! These books guide children to an understanding that the weak, idiotic Son Of God is a living hoax who will be humiliated when the rain of fire comes, and will suck the greasy c**k of the Dark Lord while we, his faithful servants, laugh and cavort in victory."

This does not sicken me as much of the grosses of such cinematic classics as Jurassic Park (was I the only one hoping to see the annoying children get eaten) or Twister (I crap better performances than Helen Hunt or Bill Paxton anyday of the week). Harry Potter at least ATTEMPTS to tell a story, unlike those other two cinematice abortions.

I am not a fundamentalist or even a regular churchgoer, but I remember when fundamentalists were mocked back in the 50s for calling rock 'n' roll the work of the devil. Within a few years, rock DID in fact help pave the way for the massive sexual revolution of the 60s and all the negative social effects associated with it. Similarly, there is an occult revolution underway in America and it has hitherto come about without mass indoctrination of young people into the occult world. Until now. I don't think we really know where all this will lead, but I think people who dismiss out of hand the possibility of anything sinister coming from it aren't even as perceptive as the fundamentalists. An interest in the occult is often accompanied by a rejection of rationality and a susceptibility to what Jung called "psychic infection." When occultism and irrationality become wedded to a political ideology - as happened in Nazism - very bad things can happen.
