I definitely have to say "Say Anything".

Yeah, I agree with you.

Total Recall. It has everything, a beautiful adventurous blonde with nice legs, and a divorce, with prejudice.

Princess Bride. So what if it's a comedy?

How about Ben, even though it's about a boy and his rat...

It even has a nifty song by Michael Jackson as its theme/love song.

Matthew Brodericks, Infinity; it's the beautiful love story of Richard Feynman and his lovely first wife, Arlene. The DVD has a wonderful, long segment on the making of the movie, also. I heartily recommend it for form and content. Matthew directed it and his mother and he had a large hand in the writing. A must see, without the gratutitous sex or off-color language ... AND IT'S ALL TRUE!

Bad Ronald

You are a sick, sick man.

(And I being the only other FReeper who (A) knows that movie, because (B) I saw it — what does that say about ME??)

Got room on that therapists couch? Move over, because I saw that movie too! Quite a few times! In fact I believe I got a copy of it on tape somewhere around here inside my videotape collection.

Okay we're all missing something here. When they picked the top comedy films my guess was that a cross-dressing flick would be in the top 5. Turns out (as I recall) that 3 of the top 5 were cross-dressing flicks, inluding number 1 -- "Some Like it Hot". (To this day why critics raved about a flat film like "Tootsie" is beyond me, except they just love cross dressing flicks.)

So look for some homosexual or lesbian love story flick (I can't think of one) to finish in the top 5. And maybe more than one, if there are more than one to pick from.

I am so happy to find a Jane Austen fan on this thread! She is my favorite author of all time on any subject. Now that I have read all of her books, the juvenilia, and incomplete work, I circle around and start reading them again. That woman packed more worthwhile meaning into any sentence than any prose writer I can think of.

And yes, A&E's Pride and Prejudice is a winner. Big time. I've now gotten a video of almost every version of Jane's books. Persuasion is another nice love story.

I enjoy William Hurt and Charlotte Gainsborough (sp?) in Jane Eyre.

Can't remember my other favorites right now.

And, of course, "An Affair to Remember".

Thank you for reminding me of the title of that movie! It's one of my favorites; still makes me cry even though I now how it turns out.
